This ledger is from the Lyon Hodil& Co. Dry Goods. General Store, Sligo, PA. Piney Township. Clarion County. It's dated from 1905-1907. Through research it seems as though the store during this period may have been owned by the Rhea family. The cover is cloth covered hardboard and is worn. The spine is barely attached to the cover. It is in good condition for it's age and daily use. 604 pages. I researched the town of Sligo. Pennsyvania, Piney Township and Clairion County. It was quite interesting reading about the general store this ledger came from and many of the families listed in the ledger. You can read for yourself via the links below. I will be listing a total of five(5) ledgers from this store. This is a historical. Rare and interesting view into the life of the people of the area during this time. 1812 General Store Ledger/Newspaper Scrapbook - Libson Works, Medford NJ, Earl
1812 General Store Ledger/Newspaper Scrapbook- Lisbon Works. Medford NJ, Earl Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This listing is for a very unique historical item. This book is a ledger from 1811-1812. Detailing purchases made at what appears to be the“Lisbon Works” as this is what is written on the top of each page. Purchased include various meat and grain products among other things. The outside of the book however adds to the mystery of this series of documents. On the binding there is a black portion that reads“New Mills Fire Company” and other writing on the front and the back. With the name“Earl” or“Earls” appearing both on the outside and many times on the interior. At some point someone came into possession of the ledger and began pasting over the pages with various newspaper clippings such as“Confessions ... moreof a housekeeper” and articles. Stories and poems from“Arthur’s home gazette” The Saturday Evening Post” and“The Atlas” just to name a few. There are also various images cut from publications made from stampings. I saw a date on a few, most of the clippings are from around 1824. Some of the clippings are peeling off or loose, and the ledger underneath seems to be unharmed by whatever glue was used(I suspect you could remove all of the newspaper clippings to restore the ledger to its original state. Also included is a cashed check paid for taxes in 1827 to Medford. NJ to Joseph S Bright. I suspect this store was somewhere in New Jersey because of some writing on the last page that says Birmingham NJ(it may also say NY, not sure) I believe this item was from a store somewhere in what is now Pemberton NJ, in or around the pine barrens. For as old as it is this book is in pretty good shape. The cover is peeling and some of the binding is pretty loose, but it holds together quite well. The book measures 16in by 6.5in by 3in Don’t miss out on a chance to own a piece of history! Shipping combined on multiple purchases Please any ask questions before purcha

1871 Handwritten Ledger Journal Fredericksburg Grapetown TX Schaper Usener Store
I almost gave up on my research with this one but finally hit a gold mine of information concerning the families listed on the pages. The person I purchased this from said it came out of an Arizona estate so he figured it was a mercantile ledger from an Arizona town. So that actually took me on all kinds of wild goose chases. It’s not Arizona; it’s Texas. Before I get to how I discovered this information. I want to give you a brief description of the ledger itself. This 1870’s ledger contains about 290 handwritten“general store” type expense entries. Four pages have been torn out but otherwise all pages are accounted for. There are hundreds of names written on the pages and also the items they purchased. For example; Revolving pistols. Boots, blankets, material, jeans, candy, bottle of bitter, tobacco, box mustard powder, buggy whip, whiskey, ... morejugs, brandy, spices, axe handles, coffee, belts, combs, underskirt, gloves, stockings, earrings, nails, pocket book, and on and on and on. There were only two places that I saw listed in this ledger; Grape Creek and Palo Alto. On the first page at the top it says Schaper& Usener. At first I thought it was“Ussner” but through hours of research I finally realized its spelled Usener. I kept putting all the different names into the search engines and not until I put in one of the names listed as“Doebbler& Cowan” which is how those two names are listed(together) sometimes in this ledger) did I find out this ledger was from a Texas town. Friedrich William Doebbler was born in 1824 in Prussia. He appeared on the census in 1880 in Gillespie County. Texas. He came to Texas in 1851 with his family. He settled in Grapetown on Grape Creek. Grapetown is a ghost town located along the Old San Antonio Road on South Grape Creek about 9 ½ miles south of Fredericksburg. The loosely-knit community around Grapetown took its first step becoming a town in 1860 when Fredrich Wilhelm Doebbler opened Grapetown’s first business establishment. A dry goods and general store called Doebbl

1858-61 PRE CIVIL WAR ERA MANUSCRIPT LEDGER OF RHODE ISLAND DRY GOODS STORE
Fascinating. Original, 1858-1861 Manuscript Ledger belonging to Wanton Shippee, a Dry Goods/ General Store Proprietor from Usquepaugh, Rhode Island(Washington County) This amazing, original manuscript ledger measures approx. 8 ½” x 13” and contains approx. 455 pages of accounts related to various goods typically sold by a mid 19th century Dry Goods Shop. We have only given this account book a cursory examination- it came to us with a number of other early New England ledgers which we have sold over the past several years. The Ledger covers the period September 8. 1858 through some time in August 1861. Accounts were kept for local residents with family names that included, Bagley, Durfee, Knight, Barbar, Palmor, Shippee, Munroe, Woodmansie, Hoxsie, Greene, Briggs, Whitehorn, Read, Clark, etc. Each account lists the name of the person, ... morethe goods or services rendered and the amount due. There is often notations indicating that the account was settled. Typical entries include- sales of sundries, sugar, bleached cotton, boots, tea, soady" crackers, meal, soap, molasses, fluid“ bitters, tobacco, elastic suspenders, payment for a days work, etc. etc. etc. This wonderful. Pre Civil war Dry Goods/ General Store Ledger gives a fantastic insight into life in a small Rhode Island- the interactions between customers and the all important Dry Goods Store proprietor. The Volume is bound in its original full suede leather covered boards with red and black leather labels on the raided spine. The binding is intact and tight and the cover has some wear at the extremities but is still very attractive(see the scans below) The interior pages are complete, intact and sound. The pages are clean and crisp and very well preserved and the entries are neat and very legible. Simply a wonderful and very fascinating 1858-1861 Manuscript Account Book/ Ledger belonging to an identified General Store/ Dry Goods Store owner from Rhode Island. The general store was also a post office and many of the ledgers contain the records of literally hundreds of individuals who stopped in and purchased postal orders and who the money was sent to. It also appears that the store was a wholesaler of Apples. Poultry, Peaches, Turkey, Hay, etc. One book contains lists of several businesses by location who purchased these products. Communities include Tyrone. Philipsburg, DuBois, State College, Latrobe, Altoona, Williamsport, Scranton, etc. etc. etc. I tried to take pictures of a few of the highlights but there are many many more throughout ... morethe books. This is a fabulous lot of books with hours and hours of interesting local history. Shipping is $25 including delivery confirmation and insurance. Do not miss your opportunity to own these! Please email me with any questions before bidding.

Antique Hand Written Manuscript / Store Ledger From 1890-1937 Vintage Rare
Hand Written Manuscript/ Store Ledger From The Late 1890's- 1937 This is a store ledger of some sort. Showing dates from the 1890's to 1937. It is in the original leather or suede binding and has many entries. I am not sure why, but it looks as if only the middle portion was used(entries mostly start on pages#300 or greater with only a handful earlier) Of the 600+ pages, I would say less than 100 have entries. If you own an Antique store or other business, you could set it on your countertop and use this for your own bookkeeping or simply a novelty. The overall dimensions measure 13 1/4" tall x 9" wide x 2 1/2" thick and weighs a whopping 6 1/2 pounds! From what I can see. The ledger does not say who the proprietor of the store was, neither the name of the store nor the location. The original leather/ suede covers are ... moreworn and the leather is peeling in places, the spine is mostly perished and the binding is fragile. The back or bottom is much nicer than the front as noted in the photos It measures The ledger is somewhat fragile. Yet still basically sound and present. Ink is clear and dark, paper is strong. An amazing relic from a store in the 1890s. A true piece of history and a rare, one-of-a-kind piece of Americana. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Buyer to pay the super low shipping cost of $3.99 shipping within the continental USA. Paypal payments only. Good luck bidding!

We traced this ledger back to possible the Walter& Jackson Co in Christina. PA. A little bit of their history of the store found on the internet: In 1872. Shortly after the Civil War ended, Brinton Franklin Walter took over a water-driven mill on what is now South Bridge Street in Christiana, Pennsylvania. Brinton offered custom grinding of feed to the young but growing town of Christiana. Later, as his business grew and diversified, he began to offer building materials, f
Store Ledger of J. A. and E. Eichelberger, Saxton, Bedford County, PA 1870's
The J. A. and E. Eichelberger store at Saxton. PA was first established in 1867 by J. A. Eichelberger(1844-1892) and Eli Eichelberger(1840-1915) Eli was the son of James Eichelberger of Hopewell Furnance, and he enlisted as a 1st Lieutenant in Co. F, 8th PA Reserves at the beginning of the Civil War. He was promoted to Captain after John Eichelberger, the existing commander, was wounded at Fredricksburg and discharged. J. A. Eichelberger was a member of Co. I, 194th PA Regiment, and was engaged in iron manufacture and mercantile business after the War. The store later remained in business as E. Eichelberger and Son in Saxton, PA. The exterior of this historic heavy ledger(16" x 7" x2 1/2" is bound in leather and shows age wear but is in good shape. The spine reads"Day Book" Inside. The upfront name index is damaged, ... morewith some pages torn with missing portions, and the pages have been repaired to some extent and reattached with archival tape. The remainder of the pages of the ledger(pp. 6-864) are fully filled out with detailed individual accounts from the 1870's, are in very good condition, and are tightly bound. There is an ad for"Orient Safety Lamp" glued to the last page. Individual account owners have not been researched, but probably include a number of Pennsylvanian Civil War veterans(I've included a small listing of the members of the 8th PA Reserve, Co. F for review with the ledger) This is an excellent opportunity to own an important historic ledger from the post-Civil War era illustrating the mercantile business in Pennsylvania. Please ask any questions before the end of bidding. As we have a no-return policy. New Jersey residents are required to pay 7% state sales tax. Thanks for looking!
Antique Handwritten Hardcover General Store Ledger Northwestern Pa. 1828-1831
Up for auction is this hand written general store ledger from northwestern Pa. It is all in the Meadville. Pennsylvania area. It starts in June 1828 to August 1831. It has Day Book stamped on the side& a big A stamped on the front cover. It has so many famous names in it& I have not turned every page because it is very fragile. The pages I did turn had these names.John& Mary Reynolds, Sarah Randolf, Ms. Baldwin, Dick Mede, Robert Mead, Soloman Lord, Caleb Perkins& Son. I know the spelling looks different but some of it is hard to read by the way the person wrote. It shows what they bought at the store& what they paid for it or if they charged it& paid later. It is really pretty interesting! Lots of information for the 3 year period. The book& its pages have had water damage& some rotting, but most of it is ... morestill able to read. The book measures 15 1/2" x 7" x 2 3/4" Please examine photos closely. Thanks for looking!
1890-1894 Bucks County 4 Bills of Sale with Store Ledger from Haycock Run, PA
This is a great piece of Bucks County history. It is a handwritten store ledger of names in Haycock Township. Bucks County, PA from 1890 to 1894. Four bills of sale are included with this ledger. They state E. A. Frankenrield was a dealer in dry goods, groceries, notions, flour, boots, shoes, drugs, hardware. One sheet is a Monthly Statement with a handwritten date of Nov. 23, 1894. It is for the sale of 168 lbs of sugar to Wm. Sleifer. The other two sheets have pencil notes on them. These sheets have Office at the top and Express and Freight Office, Perkasie, Penna. under the store name. The fourth and largest sheet has Agent for H.F. Hager's Celebrated Fertilizers under the name with some pencil notes. Inside the first page is stamped"E. A. Frankenfield, Dealer in General Merchandise, Haycock Run, PA" There are 225 numerically ... morestamped pages. The first entry is 1890 for Abel McCarty. The last entry is M.D. Frankenfield, 1894. On page 124, Haycock Township is listed as a customer dated 1891. The ledger show entries of"Mdse" purchased, the date and the amount on the left side of the page. Across from that, within the right part of the page, is date of payment, the amount, and the method of payment. Many times payment is cash. But other entries include by Hauling, by Prod(produce) by Beans, by Eggs, Shoulder, Squab, Baskets, Mdse, to name a few. The very first pages of this ledger are names in alphabetical order with numbers across from them. I have no idea what they reference. These names take up the A-Z portion of the front of this ledger. Then page 1 begins as a numerical stamp in the upper right of the page. This ledger is 12 1/2" high and 7 1/2" wide. Along the side of the binding is printed the word LEDGER at the top. On the bottom is a large number 6. See photos) Condition is very good. The pages are in excellent shape with the black and red ink clear and bright. There is a little staining on the inside of the front and back cover, but it does not detract from the ledger. Bi
Antique General Store Leather Book Journal Ledger PA 1873 Calligraphy AAFA
This is a BEAUTIFUL ledger that came from a General Store in Pennsylvania. On page one it begins with January 1873 and the ledger ends in 1877. Every page is full of beautiful calligraphy- naming EACH item that was purchased- for example. Nails.10, Tobacco.10, Wood Pail.25, Mattress 6.50, Mirror 3.00, Sled 4.00, etc. each page is full of the items bought) see pictures) The calligraphy is beautiful- it looks like it was"penned" by the same person until May of 1877 and then someone else"penned" the remainder. The outside is a VERY soft leather with embossing. The edges of the pages are decorated. There are some torn parts of the leather on the top front right hand corner and the back top left hand corner(I have included pictures of these) Then there are some worn spots on the corner of the cover but these are not noticeable ... moreat all. I have included pictures of these. This book just absolutely'speaks to you' I can just feel how much time was put into recording every single sale of every single item at this PA store. On the spine is a red leather piece naming it as a JOURNAL and then a black leather piece without any designation on that piece. The book measures 13.5 inches in length. 8.75 inches in width and 1.5 inches in depth. I try to describe my items to the best of my ability. All of my items are sold as-is. Please take time to look at all the pictures closely and ask any questions you might have. Also note my PayPal payment preference and the 24-hour turn-around if payment is received promptly. Thank you. AAFA means Antique Americana and Folk Art and is used as a short cut to finding items that are true antiques. Not reproductions, and are American. Simply search on AAFA and find all types of American antiques. I will only use the AAFA designation for items which fit the criteria. 0fe.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk%601d70f%2B%3E0fe-14795de89fa-0x10d-
ANTIQUE HAND WRITTEN GEN. STORE LEDGER 1859-60 & DIARY HENDERSON COUNTY KY. RARE
| | ANTIQUE HAND WRITTEN GEN. STORE LEDGER 1859-60& DIARY HENDERSON COUNTY KY. RARE, THIS OLD I ASSUME GENERAL STORE LEDGER SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN CONTROLLED& WRITTEN BY THE PRIEST FAMILY IN HENDERSON COUNTY KENTUCKY. IT HAS AN ALPHABETIC INDEX IN FRONT WITH HAND WRITTEN NAMES OF ACCOUNTS MANY MANY. PERHAPS MISSING THE D& E SECTION HOWEVER NOT TO WORRY ALL OF THE ACTUAL ENTRIES FOR PERSONS ARE STILL INTACT. I BELIEVE THE STORE LEDGER WAS FROM 1859& 1860 AND DATED ON MOST PAGES AS SUCH. THEN AROUND 1911 FRANCIS WILLIAM PRIEST STARTED USING LITTLE USED OR UNUSED PAGES AS A DIARY PROBABLY INTO 1924 ABSOLUTELY LOADED WITH DAILY INFO AND INSIGHT TO THE TIME AND PLACE WHO WAS THERE AND WHAT THEY DID. WEDDINGS, HOUSE BURNING, CHURCHES, HORSES BORN, LAW BREAKING, DEATHS YOU NAME IT. I THINK MAYBE WILLIAM PRIEST WAS THE PROPRIETER IN 1859-60 ... moreALSO NAMES WRITTEN IN BOOK ARE J.E. PRIEST, PAM PRIEST, FRANCIS WILLIAM PRIEST WHO KEPT AND USED THE BOOK. MORE PRIEST NAMES AND MANY OTHERS OF COURSE INSIDE. PROBABLY SOME OF THE MEN WENT OFF TO THE CIVIL WAR THE YEAR AFTER 1860 WHICH MAY EXPLAIN IT STOPPING THEN. ONE WOULD HAVE TO RESEARCH THE NAMES. IF YOU HAVE ANY ANCESTRY IN THIS AREA DURING THESE YEARS I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND BIDDING ON THIS IT IS 1 OF A KIND FOR SURE. IT IS HUGE ABOUT 16 X 10 X 2 1/2 AND WEIGHS IN AT 8 LBS 12 OZS. I WILL SHIP IT MEDIA MAIL AT ACTUAL COST TO SHIP. THIS IS A TREASURE FOR SURE. CONDITION IS ROUGH FROM COVERS AND BINDING STANDPOINT FALLING APART FOR SURE BUT THE PAGES ARE VERY READABLE AND LOADED WITH THE HISTORY OF HENDERSON COUNTY. MAYBE CLOSEST TO HEBBARDSVILLE AT LEAST DURING SOME TIME. BUT MANY TOWNS ARE IN THE TALKS. I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHED A SAMPLING. OTHER TOWNS IN THE AREA THAT MAY BE INTERESTED ARE HENDERSON KY. CORYDON KY. ROBARDS KY. SCUFFLETOWN KY. SPOTTSVILLE KY. PHILPOT KY. EVANSVILLE KY. EVANSVILLE IN. OWENSBORO KY. OHIO RIVER AND GREEN RIVER. I HOPE SOMEONE WILL FIND THIS HANDWRITTEN HISTORY PRICELESS. POLAND YOUNGSTOWN OH 1830'S UP STORE MILL LEDGER SEWING BROOMS HIDES GENEALOGY
6 x 15" ledger. Starting in 1831 and continuing to 1846, and then some scattered entries to the 1870's(Probably from a different business/farm) This business was located in the Poland, Ohio area, note that the heading POLAND/ POLAND OHIO is atop most pages. I see many entries related to clothing/ sewing and also broom making. Ledger predates most of the towns of Mahoning county. There are many dozens of names for the genealogy/ history lover. Everyone listed would have to be a pioneer of the area. There is a page near the front with a section cut out, see scan. I did not see the name of this business, but I did not scrutinize the ledger closely. I wonder if this business was a mill located on or near a canal? The computer didn't help me research a Poland, Ohio item this early, but surely there is pertinent information out there. ... moreLedger is around 3/4" thick, and has information of some kind on around 75% of the pages. There are many pages from the 1830's. I did not check to see if any"McGUFFEY's" connected with McGUFFEY'S READERS are listed, I believe that that family came from the Poland area. There is one invoice which I scanned. INCREDIBLE item for a museum or collection, and it is PRICELESS HISTORICAL GEM. I see a 5" binding crack near the bottom, but the book is tight with no loose pages. Average" for age, I guess. Thanks for looking!

ANTIQUE HANDWRITTEN LEDGER This old ledger was found at a Santa Maria. CA estate sale. It has 190+ pages full of handwritten entries. It appears to be a combination of a ledger for a store, hotel, farm, and household expenses. There is a lot of mention of Napa Valley and Nipomo, CA. The first date I see is 1880. Inside the cover. It is signed W.H. Grigsby, Nipomo. Jan. 1894 S.L.O. Co. California. The next page is signed Will Grigsby"For the year of 1880 Day Book" and"William H. Grigsby, Napa, Calif. Napa Soda Springs" The next page apeears to be a list of names with page number(presumably a contents index to certain ... moreaccounts) The last date I see is 1916. Some other clues to owner: Moved to Soda Canon Road(Napa) Nov. 1887.to SLO June 10. 1891.Nipomo Dec. 14, 1891. Some Nipomo names that I see as boarders and expenses: Will Dana.
