And beneath that the date, Para Los Anos De 1668 y 1669” Next to that are the words“Sello Tercero. And the words“un real” The size is about 8 ½” x 12 3/8” This was once bound into ... morea book. And there is evidence of it being removed from a spine along the left edge. The condition is used, with stains, a few worm holes, irregular edges, folds, some bleed-through caused by the dark ink. The manuscript is still intact, though, and the pages open for easy reading. WINNEBAGO NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN Handwritten Manuscript Letter/Ho-Chunk Tribe
FANTASTIC. ORIGINAL 19TH CENTURY AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED BY A NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN AND WRITTEN IN HIS NATIVE LANGUAGE. This terrific letter was written in Elroy. Juneau County, Wisconsin on April 27th, 1894. Letter is signed"Little Thunder" and beneath signature is what appears to be his anglicized name of"L.T. Artitchaker" Further inscribed below, in a different hand, is the phrase"Indian letter written by one who stayed here all night. Letter is untranslated, however collateral material obtained with it states"Family legend claims he was a member of the Winnebago[aka Ho-Chunk] Tribe of Wisconsin" thus suggesting letter was written in a dialect known to this tribe. Original material from the 1800s written by Native American Indians in their native tongue is increasingly rare. While some indigenous Native ... moreAmerican dialects remain vibrant. Many today are sadly teetering on the verge of extinction due to dwindling numbers of speakers. A truly wonderful and scarce 19th century example. The Ho-Chunk. Also known as Winnebago, are a Siouan-speaking tribe of Native Americans, native to the present-day states of Wisconsin, Minnesota, and parts of Iowa and Illinois. Today the two federally recognized Ho-Chunk tribes, the Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin and Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska, have territory primarily within the states included in their names. The Winnebago speak a Siouan language and their name for themselves. Or autonym, is Ho-Chunk[Hocąk] It has had numerous spelling variations: Hocak, Hotanke, Houchugarra, Hotcangara, Ochungaraw, Ochungarah, Hochungra Hochungara, and Ochangara, as Europeans tried to transliterate the name. Translations include: the fish eaters, the trout people, the big fish people" the big speech people, the people of the big voice, the people of the parent speech" and"the people of the original language. Current elders say it means, the people of the big voice" or"the people of the sacred language. The term"Winnebago" was d

Kidder, Peabody acted as a commercial bank, ... moreinvestment bank, and merchant bank. The firm had an active securities business, dealing in treasury bonds and municipal bonds, as well as corporate bonds and stocks. The Boston and Providence Railroad was an early U.S. Railroad in New England, connecting Boston and Providence and is now part of Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. At this point in time there is a 7 unit apartment building at 296 Beacon Street Boston, and official records show that it was built to replace an 1870 house built on that site for Oliver Wendell Holmes. For thousands of years. Indigenous peoples were the only inhabitants of the territory that is now Maine. At the time of European encounter, several Algonquian-speaking peoples inhabited the area. The first European settlement in Maine was by the French in 1604 on Saint Croix Island, by Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Mons. The first English settlement in Maine, the short-lived Popham Colony, was established by the Plymouth Company in 1607. A number of English settlements were established along the coast of Maine in the 1620s, although the rugged climate, deprivations, and conflict with the local peoples caused many to fail over the years. As Maine entered the 18th century. Only a half dozen European settlements had survived. Patriot and British forces con

Although 1668 this is the latest date to appear in document, we suspect this"word for word.true copy" was penned slightly later(c.1690) In researching document we learned that Ezekiel Woodward's wife Ann was the daughter of William Beamsley(d.1658) of Boston. And the property deed pertains to was once owned by Beamsley. Specifically, the deed relates to the sale of a Boston house-lot by the heirs of William Beamsley. EARLY COLONIAL AMERICANA Manuscript Sermon/Handwritten/Boston/Cotton Mather 1725
AMAZING. ORIGINAL EARLY 18TH CENTURY MANUSCRIPT SERMON. This remarkable early sermon is dated May 2nd. 1725 and was delivered on the"Sab[bath] after Mr. Fow[le's] funeral" Sermon was discovered in an archive of old documents pertaining to New England and we suspect the subject of sermon was Mr. John Fowle of Charlestown, Massachusetts, who died in April, 1725. It seems likely Mr. Fowle would have belonged to a local denomination such as the First Congregational Church in Charlestown. If that were the case, sermon would have been written and delivered by the Rev. Simon Bradstreet(1697-1741) Interestingly. Online records indicate that Mr. Fowle joined the Second Church of Boston in 1694. Although records from the 17th century often contain inaccuracies, it is indeed possible that Mr. Fowle crossed the river to attend the Second ... moreChurch of Boston. If that were the case, this sermon becomes more interesting from a historical perspective in that Cotton Mather(1663-1728) was the minister of that congregation from 1685 until the time of his death. By 1725 Cotton Mather was a well known and influential figure engaged in number of activities, and it seems unlikely he would have delivered this sermon and while we are not suggesting that, it certainly makes for interesting speculation. Date on rear leaf suggests the following sermon delivered by this minister was three weeks later, suggesting the clergyman in question was busy with other activities apart from preaching. Perhaps fittingly, lightly penciled diagnally across the back cover is the phrase"Cotton Mather? Another compelling feature of this early sermon is the manuscript notation on the front page. Penned later and in a different hand, stating, ms sermon- 1725- name lost from Dr Sprague" We suspect this volume once belonged to Dr. William Buell Sprague(1795-1876) pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church in Albany for some forty years and eminent author of many works. Sprague was also a renowned collector of autographs and manuscripts and was

NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN Handwritten Manuscript Diary/Hunting/Fishing/Archery 1647
AMAZING. ORIGINAL CIRCA LATE 17TH CENTURY DIARY FRAGMENT PERTAINING TO NATIVE AMERICAN INDIANS. This extraordinary early diary clipping is dated 1647 and provides a fascinating glimpse at Pilgrim observations of the indigenous population in the rugged New World(probably Massachusetts Bay Colony) Neatly penned in an unknown cursive hand. Clipping is presumably a slightly later contemporary transcription(ca. 1685) of the original diary entry, made in an effort to help preserve the writings for later publication. Early manuscript is devoted exclusively to the activities and behavior of Native American Indians. Particularly their methods of hunting and fishing. Included is a reference to the"Powawes" an early term used to describe Indians who practiced forms of magic. Lengthy early fragment is backed by an additional layer of thin paper ... moreand matted onto single sheet of modern paper. The Indian people in these parts at the English first com ing. Were very barbarous and uncivilized. Going for the most part naked. Although the country be extreme cold in the winter-season: they are onely clothed with a Deer skin. And a little bit of cloth to cover their privy part. The Women for the most part are very modest. Although they go as naked as the Men; they are generally very laborious at their planting time. And the Men extraordinary idle. Making their squawes to carry their Children and the luggage beside; so that many times they travell eight or ten mile. With a burden on their backs, more fitter for a horse to carry than a woman. The men follow no kind of labour but hunting. Fishing and fowling. Listed Artist Taylor Handwritten Illustrated Letter Original Cartoon Manuscript
1932 two page original handwritten illustrated letter from American listed artist Henry White Taylor(1899-1943) to his daughter drawn on the artist’s letterhead. Also. An illustrated by Taylor, printed four page brochure for the sale of his Paoli, PA home and studio entitled“House in the Woods” The letter was sent from when the artist’s home and study in the woods was located at“the end of Biddle Road. Paoli PA, the envelope is marked with a 1932 postal cancellation. Henry White Taylor is a fairly obscure American artist. Due in part to his short life(he died at age 44) however his rarely available work sells at auction in the. 3.500 to 10,000 dollar range with a few examples sold in recent years by Rago. Of particular interest to anyone who owns a Henry W. Taylor painting. Or those who collect artist’s letters, and archives. This whimsical ... morecartoon illustrated letter to the artist’s daughter is positively charming. The sales brochure is an interesting example of the artist applying his skills and creativity to the practical matter. Of selling his home. It also provides a rare view of the artists PA studio where he created many of his paintings(very little biographical information on Henry White Taylor is available) Interestingly. A caricature of a long landscape painting that hangs over the fire place mantle in the home’s interior sketch bears a striking resemblance to a similarly dimensioned(15 x 62) landscape that sold at Rago in 2014. If you know who now owns the landscape. Please let them know about this listing! A few biographical notes I found on Taylor: He was a best friend of. And read and critiqued the pre-published manuscripts for, 1939 Pulitzer prize winning author T.S. Tribling. He was a staff illustrator in the 1930’s for the Saturday Evening Post. And was acquainted with N.C. Weyth. He studied under Hugh Breckenridge. Condition The illustrated letter is in excellent condition. The letter was written on the artist’s letterhead paper which was a good quality watermarked bond paper. The pape
LISBON MAINE Androscoggin County ME Handwritten Manuscript Cobbler Ledger 1800s
FANTASTIC. ORIGINAL MID-19TH CENTURY MANUSCRIPT ACCOUNT BOOK FROM LISBON, MAINE. This terrific handwritten volume dates from 1834-1859 and was kept by cobbler William Booker(1812-1881) of Lison Falls. Maine. Compiler was fastidious in recording his entries, as the right and left columns balance out with equal sums on most every page. It appears the frugal yankee Booker also leveraged his cobbler skills through the use of bartering, sometimes making or repairing shoes in exchange for needed items rather than cash. Impressive ledger spans some twenty-five years of William Booker's life. Comprising of myriad of transactions he engaged in throughout that period. Although he took part in many activities such as butchering, haying, hauling, threshing, working in the mill, laying walls, fencing, harvesting, ploughing, blasting stone, etc. his ... moreprinciple skill set was that of a cobbler. Throughout much of volume, Mr. Booker derives an income and secures needed commodities by making and repairing shoes. Entries include tapping, mending, bottoming, binding, cutting, stitching, setting, etc. and encompass an array of footwear for men, women, and children, with size breakdowns sometimes included.
