The shop owner and artist signed the painting. Kristos Solomon 2004. The oil painting was a work in progress when we first viewed it. So we returned later to buy it. Although I do not believe that Ato Solomon is a very well known artist, his grandfather was quite respected and we own a few of his paintings on skin. This style of painting is very traditional. And but it’s rare to see a newer piece like this so very well executed. The colors are vibrant and the details marvelous! I hate to part with it. But it’s been rolled up and carefully stored for the last 9 years– it needs a large display area that will do it justice! A gorgeous example of Ethiopian art.

Unique Pa German Groff Family Bible Record 1700s
You are viewing a rare and unique Pennsylvania German manuscript Bible record for the Groff family of Lancaster County. PA This page was removed years ago from a Bible and then mounted to cardboard with staples(see scan) The overall damage from the staples is minimal since they can be removed rather easily( had it been idiot Scotch Tape, the acid would have ruined the paper) The good news is that the inscription is intact, and that the records may prove invaluable to someone descended from this old illustrious Mennonite family. The sheet of paper measures 6 1/2 by 9 1/2 inches with German script on BOTH sides. We have not attempted to lift the old paper to show the back side but there is 1(one) entry on the back for a child of this same family. What you see here are the birth dates of babies, Marx(Marcus) 1757, Hans(John) 1778, Anna(1780) ... moreDavid(1782) and a later one on the back. It has been suggested that perhaps Marcus is the father of the others, since there is such a time span between him and the rest: he was old enough to start making babies in the 1770s, but this is just a suggestion, since many of these old Mennonites ran through several wives. In any case, here is genealogical information not found anywhere else and it looks as though the original family Bible may be destroyed. RARE.

John Irvine 1834 Family Bible Early Bradford Co. Settler With Portrait. Family Records Medium sized Bible is noted inside as being purchased May 12. 1835 in Towanda, PA. Condition is fair, the important thing is the fact that John and his family were amoung the first settlers of this area of Bradford Co. John' was born in 1801 and was married 3 times. First to Martha Arnout. See detailed geneology below. Tri-Counties Genealogy& History by Joyce M. Tice Pioneer& Patriot Families of Bradford County PA 1800-1825 Vol. II- Clement F. Heverly- Pages 185-186 Irvine(originally Irwin)John Irvine. A Scotchman, emigrated to this country with his parents and settled near Milton, Pa. where he owned a farm. During the Revolutionary war, anticipating the move of the British and Indians, Mr. Irvine loaded his goods in canoes and passed down the ... moreriver with his family into Cumberland county for safety. While here he died, the family moving back to their old home after the troubles were over. John Irvine was three times married, having children by each wife, 22 in all. Three of his sons. Andrew, George and Welch came to Bradford county. Andrew Irvine. The eldest son of John by his third marriage, was born May 28, 1789 in Northumberland county. In 1812 he and his brother Guy C. returning from the war, passed through Towanda. The place at that time was more remarkable for three streams of water running through it than anything else it possessed. The center stream caught the eye of Andrew as the spot to locate a tannery. Accordingly, he purchased a half-acre of ground of William Means and erected a 2 1/2-story log house thereon. In the upper room, he cooked his meals and slept using the lower room for a shop. Mr. Irvine's lot extended from one door south of where M. E. Rosenfield's store now is to Patton's block. His log house stood about 35 feet below Main street back of the Tidd Hotel. This 259 year old bible is fresh from a Pawtuxet. Rhode Island house that decedents of the Arnold family had been living in since the 18th century. The bible printed in Edinburgh in 1755 originally belonged to Oliver& Susanna Potter Arnold. The Arnold's were among of the first families to settle Newport, Rhode Island and were also among of the first families to settle Pawtuxet, Rhode Island. This is a typical mid 18th century bible, however, this bible contains the family history of the Arnold family starting with the marriage of Oliver Arnold to Susanna Potter their first son Stephen being born September 3rd 1864 to the birth of Orace Arnold on December 22nd 1791. Most of the family history is written on the back of the New Testament title page. Bible Philadelphia published 1810 Matthew CAREY. Very Good condition. As it was rebound in 1904, and so stated on a page in the bible. The front of the bible says: AUNT POLLY'S BIBLE BURDETT The first birth recorded is Hester SUTHARD(SOUTHARD) born Feb of 1762. It took me a bit. But I THINK she is the Hester SIEMON whose death is recorded as 1838 in her 77th year. There are other intermarriages with BURDETT and ABBOTT with SIEMON in the bible. The next entry is for the birth of John FREELAND fourth of July 1788. He married Mary KIPP in 1812 and her birth in 1791 is also recorded. The Old and New Testament Bible has a section on the History of the Books of the Bible; it has a dictionary of the Bible with over 400 engravings; it has a section on"Stories of the Bible for the young" with lots of illustrations. It has the Catholic apocryphal books between the Old and New Testament. In the center of the Bible there is a marriage certificate which is filled out and dated 1885 and a Family Record which is partially filled in. The Bible has a leather cover. Which is in poor condition. The Bible measures 12" by 9" and is 3.5" thick. The condition of the Bible is fragile. The pages are yellowed with edge roughness and tearing on some. The only date I found was when it was given to the owner 1873. DAVID HALL gilded on front cover. The front hinge is frayed but still solid and the Bible opens and closes easily. Binding is tight. I am offering for a NO RESERVE auction this large and embossed antique 1886 family holy bible with 2000 illustrations some in color. Latches together on the side with 2 fancy engraved nickel plated hinges, published by Isaac Hough No. 92 Pearl Street, Dr. Wm. Smith's standard bible dictionary, The King James and the Revised Version of the Old and New Testaments, arranged in parallel Columns. There is a presentation page as well as birth and death record but nothing has been recorded and photo album in the back for 10 photos, the edges of the pages are gold gilded. Very old Catholic Bible.I have no idea of it's age.But I believe it is from at least the mid-1800's. On the first page there is a list of the Bishops and Arch- bishops that approved the edition.I Googled several of the names and their terms were between 1830's and 1850's.The Bible has a page of Births,deaths,and marriages.The name of the family listed is Willis. Also,in the back,there is a place for pictures. This Bible is in rough shape and needs lots of repair.It also smells of smoke.It was probably in a parlor at some time where people smoked a lot.The first several pages are brittle and very worn around the edges(PIC 7)There may be a cover page missing. Here's a family Bible dated 1814. Measures 10 7/8" tall X 9" wide and 3 1/4" thick. Has 5 raised bands on spine. I'd say it's in good to very good condition considering it's 200 years old. Small pieces from top and bottom of spine worn off(1st picture) Crack in leather down middle of spine. Corners of both covers rubbed. Separation shown in 8th picture(this is in line with the external crack in spine) I'm thinking there was a previous repair.if so. It was done well as the Bible opens and closes easily with no looseness. Pages have typical foxing and discoloring for a 200 year old Bible but still very legible. The family pages have been removed. The title page has'family record page 677' hand written on the top but again, they've been removed. All scripture pages, Apocrypha and Concordance are ... morein tact. It is really old Bible however it is not marked with the age in it. I am guessing the late 1800's to early 1900's due to it has gold gilting on top of the pages.
