ANTIQUE FDNY LEDGER Handwritten Book/Vintage Firefighting/NYC Fire Dept. 1800s
FANTASTIC. ORIGINAL 19TH CENTURY NEW YORK CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT LEDGER. This amazing volume was compiled by Hook& Ladder Company No. 19 which at the time operated from Ogden Avenue in the Bronx section of New York City. The location where it was originally organized. Entries run from May 6th through August 15th, 1887, and cover day-to-day activities of the firehouse in fascinating detail. Massive folio contains some 500 numbered pages. Each chock full of handwritten entries including fire calls and alarms, ambulance calls, roll calls, company drills, meal breaks, caring and exercising of the horses, trips to the blacksmith shop, equipment maintenance, supply purchases, etc. This is one of those vintage gems which should be seen to be fully appreciated. A truly remarkable time capsule from a bygone era of NYC firefighting. The New York ... moreCity Fire Department traces its origins back to 1648 when the first fire ordinance was adopted in what then was the Dutch settlement of New Amsterdam. Hooks. Ladders and buckets were financed through the collection of fines for dirty chimneys and a fire watch was established consisting of eight wardens which were drawn from the male population. An organization known as the"prowlers" but given the nickname"the rattle watch" patrolled the streets with buckets, ladders and hooks from nine in the evening until dawn looking for fires. Leather shoe buckets, 250 in all, were manufactured by local Dutch shoemakers in 1658, and these"bucket brigades" are regarded as the beginning of the New York Fire Department. In 1664 New Amsterdam became a British settlement and was renamed New York. The first New York fire brigade entered service in 1731 equipped with two hand-drawn pumpers which had been transported from London. England. These two pumpers formed Engine Company 1 and Engine Company 2. These were the first fire engines to be used in the American colonies, and all able-bodied citizens were required to respond to a fire alarm and to participate in the exting
1924-1956 School Ledger Eden Fond du Lac Wi Wisconsin Antique Vintage
This is a great find! This ledger begins with what appears to be the first year the school was in operation. Beginning in 1924-25. The ledger accounts monies coming in and out. It looks like Emma Braun was the first school marm. The school was heated with both wood and coal in the beginning. It is amazing to follow the growth of the school and transition over time, when they make improvements to the land, adding a fence, getting their first music outfit in 1929, playground equiptment in 1931, insurance and taxes over time, hiring additional staff, who is splitting wood and delivering coal, and on and on. Some interesting entries are when they started to get the Milwaukee Journal in 1936, electricity must have been installed around 1935, they bought a radio in 1939, the victory tax starting in 1942, enrolling in Wisconsin School of the Air, ... moreand something called Cancer Control. The ledger is complete for every year between 1924 and when it ends in 1956. I would assume the school was closed at that point since there are empty pages after that year's entry. The other thing that makes this ledger stand out from others I have seen is that it lists the names of people who provided services or supplies. These family names include: Braun, Trindt, Siefoff, Yager or Yeager, O'Brien, Karstin, Flynn, Drehmel, Grahl, Benhaus, Briggs, Grahl, Whealon, Webb, Vau or Van, Dahlman& Cooper Supply, Smith, Duenisch, Trantlage, Hahn, Shea, Schlaefer Construction Co. ANTIQUE LEDGER leather hardbound book Samuel Morse entry 1850 RARE COLLECTIBLE!
For your consideration is one(1) antique leather hardbound ledger with handwritten entries from 1850. Dimensions in inches: Height: 16.375" Width(book closed) 7.5" Depth(thickness) 1.25" A. on the front"A. CLEAVELAND JR" on the spine The owner appears to be the bookkeeper and/or proprietor of a general store. And he logged the names of every customer and the items they purchased, as well as the amount of the transaction. Contains almost 400 pages. Very heavy and solid. Amazing patina. Several pages torn off near the back(already came this way when we acquired it) What makes this ledger unique. Apart from its inherent collectible value as an 1850s book, is that it contains several entries listing"Samuel Morse" as a customer, including the items he purchased. Samuel Morse, for whom Morse Code was named, was ... moreone of America's foremost inventors and was credited with making vital technological improvements to the telegraph. Best known as an inventor, Morse was also an accomplished painter and the founder of the National Academy of Design. Since the dates coincide with Samuel Morse's lifetime. It's possible that this was him. In any case, we will leave it to you to make your own determination. There may be names of other famous folks in the ledger if you take the time to peruse almost 400 pages. Final sale. So please ask any questions and examine all photos prior to purchase. Thanks for looking! Shipping notes: Ledger will be shipped with insurance and tracking service. Antique 1894-1911 Pennsylvania Lumber/Coal Company Ledger Payroll Rents More
Antique 1894-1911 Lumber/Coal Company Accounts Receivable/Payable Ledger This antique ledger is that of a business that seems to have sold lumber and coal located in Darby. Pennsylvania. For the most part, the ledger contains the accounts receivable/payable records of the time period beginning 1900 through 1911 with a record of rent income received in the back of the book beginning in 1894. Most of the entries are done in beautiful calligraphy of this time period. The records show freight shipments/goods received. The cost of different wood/timber including items such as Hemlock, Mining Planks and more. Also documented are business expenses and the payment made to various companies for services rendered. It also contains payroll information for employees. Hours worked, amount paid, less expenses noted, such as“store” or“rent” ~ They must ... morehave had some type of living quarters/rooms at or near the work location as well as some type of store ~ all so interesting! Further in the back of the book. There is a section for the rent account with records as early as 1894. The book measures 9” wide and is 14” in height. The first few pages contains a section broken down alphabetically and the remainder of the book are ledger pages. All of which have writing. I see no blank pages. The cover is in extremely poor condition ~ it was at one time taped on the interior. The leather, suede is in a state of deterioration. The pages of course are browning with age and there are some tears but for the most part, the interior is in very good vintage condition. Don’t hesitate to send an email if I have missed anything. If you have further questions or need additional photos ~ I am happy to help ~ IMPORTANT INFORMATION: I am using the Ebay shipping calculator however. I will ship using the least expensive method and always provide a refund for any overpayment. I am not trying to make money on shipping, nor do I want to loose money, therefore, shipping estimate can be less once packaged. Thanks Much ~ Judi

Antique ledger from Texas oil company detailing all 1921 business transactions
This is really an amazing artifact from the past. It's a record of all of a small 1920s oil company's expenses for a two-year period. It includes orders for raw materials. Land and water use as well as charges for different jobs, all recorded in an delicate hand in ink that has turned sepia bronze in the last 90 years. It provides a line-by-line glimpse into the industry that would come to dominate West Texas for the majority of the century at a time when that future was hardly imaginable. It would be a wonderful addition to any home library or home or business office decoration theme or could be taken apart for amazing art projects. I'll refund overage on the postage. Thanks!
Antique Hand Written Manuscript / Store Ledger From 1890-1937 Vintage Rare
Hand Written Manuscript/ Store Ledger From The Late 1890's- 1937 This is a store ledger of some sort. Showing dates from the 1890's to 1937. It is in the original leather or suede binding and has many entries. I am not sure why, but it looks as if only the middle portion was used(entries mostly start on pages#300 or greater with only a handful earlier) Of the 600+ pages, I would say less than 100 have entries. If you own an Antique store or other business, you could set it on your countertop and use this for your own bookkeeping or simply a novelty. The overall dimensions measure 13 1/4" tall x 9" wide x 2 1/2" thick and weighs a whopping 6 1/2 pounds! From what I can see. The ledger does not say who the proprietor of the store was, neither the name of the store nor the location. The original leather/ suede covers are ... moreworn and the leather is peeling in places, the spine is mostly perished and the binding is fragile. The back or bottom is much nicer than the front as noted in the photos It measures The ledger is somewhat fragile. Yet still basically sound and present. Ink is clear and dark, paper is strong. An amazing relic from a store in the 1890s. A true piece of history and a rare, one-of-a-kind piece of Americana. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Buyer to pay the super low shipping cost of $3.99 shipping within the continental USA. Paypal payments only. Good luck bidding!

Antique Historic 1852 Bucks Cnty Ledger for Haycock Twp of Taxes & Militia Fines
This is a handwritten ledger of Bucks County history-specifically Haycock Township from 1852. The second page says"Haycock Duplicate of County and State Taxes and Delinquent Militia fines as assessed for the year A.D. 1852" The inside front cover has an attached. Notarized certificate of the submission by Jacob Ott, Collector of Haycock Twp. The Jacob Ott signature is very clear. These taxes were submitted to Doylestown. At the bottom of this sheet are signatures of the three county commissioners. The last signature is the county clerk. As I understand this ledger, it is a duplicate of what was submitted. It is all handwritten and in excellent shape. The front and back cover are hard, cardboard-like paper. The ledger is very much intact and is"tight" as though it hasn't been looked through much. The inside pages are ... morelined with the names written in ink alphabetically. The first 13 pages are Names of Owners of Real Estate. The three columns include County Tax($& Cents) State Tax($& Cents) M Fines(Militia Fines) The first name is Daniel Applebach, Esq. then the list goes through the alphabet with the last name of Samuel Ziegenfoos. The next three pages are Names of Tennants with their collected taxes. This is followed by three pages of names of Single Men. The next 11 pages are Names of Non Residents. All these pages are very clearly handwritten and neat. There are small pencil X marks next to the names. There is a Total Page after the names. It states the amount of County Tax collected was $363.20; State Tax was $638.73; M(militia) Fines were $26.50. Then there are two pages with handwritten notes. The final seven sheets are blank. This ledger measures about 6 1/2" high and about 5" across. This is a true piece of Bucks County history. No returns, please. I will answer any questions.

Historic Antique Bucks County Small Ledger 1869-1875 Doylestown Written Receipts
This is a small leather ledger measuring 3 1/4" across by 5 1/2" high. It is has about 42 pages of handwritten"payment received" mostly to Henry Frankenfield. Executor of Estate, Esq. of people who died from 1869 to 1875. The second entry(shown in the first photo) mentions"Rec'd Doylestown Feb. 15. So I assume this is a ledger of Doylestown interest. This is the only mention I see of Doylestown or any other town, but Bucks County is mentioned in an entry. The wording of these entries is mostly the same: Received(date) from Henry Frankenfield Executor of the Estate of(name) deceased. The sum of(amount spelled out) as being for(various services rendered) At the end of each entry is a signature. These signatures vary and are not all the same person. The entries begin Feb. 15, 1869 and are posted into 1875. The services ... morerendered vary and include- for letters, testimony, tax, appraising, proofing will, for coffin, for cutting feed and thrashing, for oats and use of horse, professional services, auditing balance in land, advertising notice, and other services. The first several pages of the journal are blank, alphabatized sheets as appear in a telephone index. Then most of the entries appear. Several pages of lined blank pages are next. Then another entry followed by a couple blank pages. Then a few more entries with one page loose. A few pages at the end of the journal have pencil notations. A couple pages have postage stamps on them. One page has a partial sheet of paper with an entry attached, I think by glue. Please see photos) This journal is in good shape. The front and back are marked somewhat and the binding is a little loose. But it is generally a fine piece with some great history for any Bucks County or Doylestown collector. No returns, please. I will answer questions.

Antique General Store Leather Book Journal Ledger PA 1873 Calligraphy AAFA
This is a BEAUTIFUL ledger that came from a General Store in Pennsylvania. On page one it begins with January 1873 and the ledger ends in 1877. Every page is full of beautiful calligraphy- naming EACH item that was purchased- for example. Nails.10, Tobacco.10, Wood Pail.25, Mattress 6.50, Mirror 3.00, Sled 4.00, etc. each page is full of the items bought) see pictures) The calligraphy is beautiful- it looks like it was"penned" by the same person until May of 1877 and then someone else"penned" the remainder. The outside is a VERY soft leather with embossing. The edges of the pages are decorated. There are some torn parts of the leather on the top front right hand corner and the back top left hand corner(I have included pictures of these) Then there are some worn spots on the corner of the cover but these are not noticeable ... moreat all. I have included pictures of these. This book just absolutely'speaks to you' I can just feel how much time was put into recording every single sale of every single item at this PA store. On the spine is a red leather piece naming it as a JOURNAL and then a black leather piece without any designation on that piece. The book measures 13.5 inches in length. 8.75 inches in width and 1.5 inches in depth. I try to describe my items to the best of my ability. All of my items are sold as-is. Please take time to look at all the pictures closely and ask any questions you might have. Also note my PayPal payment preference and the 24-hour turn-around if payment is received promptly. Thank you. AAFA means Antique Americana and Folk Art and is used as a short cut to finding items that are true antiques. Not reproductions, and are American. Simply search on AAFA and find all types of American antiques. I will only use the AAFA designation for items which fit the criteria. 0fe.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk%601d70f%2B%3E0fe-14795de89fa-0x10d-
ANTIQUE HAND WRITTEN GEN. STORE LEDGER 1859-60 & DIARY HENDERSON COUNTY KY. RARE
| | ANTIQUE HAND WRITTEN GEN. STORE LEDGER 1859-60& DIARY HENDERSON COUNTY KY. RARE, THIS OLD I ASSUME GENERAL STORE LEDGER SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN CONTROLLED& WRITTEN BY THE PRIEST FAMILY IN HENDERSON COUNTY KENTUCKY. IT HAS AN ALPHABETIC INDEX IN FRONT WITH HAND WRITTEN NAMES OF ACCOUNTS MANY MANY. PERHAPS MISSING THE D& E SECTION HOWEVER NOT TO WORRY ALL OF THE ACTUAL ENTRIES FOR PERSONS ARE STILL INTACT. I BELIEVE THE STORE LEDGER WAS FROM 1859& 1860 AND DATED ON MOST PAGES AS SUCH. THEN AROUND 1911 FRANCIS WILLIAM PRIEST STARTED USING LITTLE USED OR UNUSED PAGES AS A DIARY PROBABLY INTO 1924 ABSOLUTELY LOADED WITH DAILY INFO AND INSIGHT TO THE TIME AND PLACE WHO WAS THERE AND WHAT THEY DID. WEDDINGS, HOUSE BURNING, CHURCHES, HORSES BORN, LAW BREAKING, DEATHS YOU NAME IT. I THINK MAYBE WILLIAM PRIEST WAS THE PROPRIETER IN 1859-60 ... moreALSO NAMES WRITTEN IN BOOK ARE J.E. PRIEST, PAM PRIEST, FRANCIS WILLIAM PRIEST WHO KEPT AND USED THE BOOK. MORE PRIEST NAMES AND MANY OTHERS OF COURSE INSIDE. PROBABLY SOME OF THE MEN WENT OFF TO THE CIVIL WAR THE YEAR AFTER 1860 WHICH MAY EXPLAIN IT STOPPING THEN. ONE WOULD HAVE TO RESEARCH THE NAMES. IF YOU HAVE ANY ANCESTRY IN THIS AREA DURING THESE YEARS I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND BIDDING ON THIS IT IS 1 OF A KIND FOR SURE. IT IS HUGE ABOUT 16 X 10 X 2 1/2 AND WEIGHS IN AT 8 LBS 12 OZS. I WILL SHIP IT MEDIA MAIL AT ACTUAL COST TO SHIP. THIS IS A TREASURE FOR SURE. CONDITION IS ROUGH FROM COVERS AND BINDING STANDPOINT FALLING APART FOR SURE BUT THE PAGES ARE VERY READABLE AND LOADED WITH THE HISTORY OF HENDERSON COUNTY. MAYBE CLOSEST TO HEBBARDSVILLE AT LEAST DURING SOME TIME. BUT MANY TOWNS ARE IN THE TALKS. I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHED A SAMPLING. OTHER TOWNS IN THE AREA THAT MAY BE INTERESTED ARE HENDERSON KY. CORYDON KY. ROBARDS KY. SCUFFLETOWN KY. SPOTTSVILLE KY. PHILPOT KY. EVANSVILLE KY. EVANSVILLE IN. OWENSBORO KY. OHIO RIVER AND GREEN RIVER. I HOPE SOMEONE WILL FIND THIS HANDWRITTEN HISTORY PRICELESS.
