Neat little Victorian-styled autograph/poetry book filled with poetry and signatures from Old Tacoma. WA schoolhouse chums and family members. Here is a RARE vintage 1904 Book of Poetry that was found in a very old house. It's GEMS FROM LOWELL by James Russell Lowell and it's in great shape! It was a Christmas gift long ago and inside is a handwritten personal message to Aunt Maria from Florence. Measuring 5 by 7 inches and published by the Cupples& Leon Company of New York. This scarce old book has been well protected over all of these years by the original wax paper dust jacket! I took the jacket off for a couple of my photographs and the gilded cover is amazing.it still sparkles and shines! This vintage hardcover publication looks like it has never been read and the inside pages are as white as snow. Offered for sale is this early 1872 book titled. THE CHILD'S SPEAKER, BEING A COLLECTION OF PIECES FOR RECITAL IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS by Charles Northend and published by A.S. Barnes and Company out of New York and Chicago. It is in good overall condition, very good considering the age! It is a wonderful collection of poetry and verse all geared to children for recitation. The pages are tight to the spine and very pliable and readable. There is light yellowing and very light foxing and the pages are better than expected considering the age and the fact that it was a children's book. It is signed by a previous owner and has some light penciling on the last blank page. The book measures about 6" by 4" and has 178 pages. The textured cloth hardcovers have wear on the edges and are lightly scuffed and the spine has fading. The hinges ... morestill operate well as this is a very readable book.
