It is from the first edition of Harper's Pictorial History of the Civil War. Which was published by McDonnell Bros. Chicago, Ill. part one was published in 1866 and part II in 1868. With the first part completed in 1866, it was one of the first works to put into perspective the account of the Great Rebellion, complete with woodcut illustrations, most of which were drawn on the spot by such artists as Winslow Homer, Granville Perkins, Livingston Hopkins and others for Harper's Weekly which chronicled the Civil War on a weekly basis. A copy of the title page is included for authenticity. The map is not mounted. Matted nor framed being sold as a single sheet as seen in the first pic. There is text on the reverse. Overall. A very nicely preserved print that would frame up well! Size: The image area measures approximately 9 by 14 inches on a 11 by 16" page with a margin all around as seen in the pic. Condition: It is in Good to Very Good condition for its age with overall tonal aging. Basically as seen in the pics. There is some darkening around the edges and one samll nick on the top edge, otherwise it is very clean and would frame up nicely. The pics are of the actual print. RARE 1846 Illuminated Bible From Trinity Church New York City, Harper & Brothers
This is a extremely rare piece of religious history! What you are looking at is a Illuminated Bible from 1846 printed by the Harper& Brothers Publishers out of new york. A very rare publisher alone. But not only is this a rare and fine quality example of a antique bible, it is from the Trinity Church in New York City. The bible contains the new and old testaments. The front cover of this book features a beautiful depiction of the church, and on the back cover is the alter of the church! Giving this book amazing historical provenance. The book itself is in good condition for it's age, with all pages intact and still strongly fastened to the binding. I did not find any written on pages in the book, and no ripped, torn, or folded ones either. There are only a couple towards the beginning of the book that have a small amount of stains ... moreon them. The only major flaw on this entire book is the front cover has broken off, very cleanly, but is it broken off. After speaking with a book expert, this could be around a $300 repair to reattach the front cover, and repair the back cover to be sure it doesn't fall off either. other than that the book is in what I would call amazing condition for being as old as it is. All pages are still crisp and clean for the most part. The last one of these books to go up for sale was in 2011, and it sold for a price of $1,500! But due to the damage to the cover, I am offering it at a reduced price. If this book does not sell for this price, I am going to have it restored myself, and re list at the last recorded sale price. So don't miss the chance to get this amazing piece of religious history at a bargain price! Giants In The Earth by O. E. Rolvaag This Estate sale find is interesting in the fact that the hardcover shows some wear and fading. But the pages are if the book has never been read. The pages are very clean, all tightly intact to a very tight binding. A name has been stamped in the upper right corner of the first two pages which is shown in the photos. The book is about a norwegian family who migrated to America and their stuggles on the plains. This book was originally wrote in Norwegian in two books in Norway. One in 1924, one in 1925. The author chose to translate it in to English for this edition. This book was turned in to an opera and won a Pulitzer Prize in 1951.

The book have orange colored hardboard covers and spine with beautiful gold gilt designs and lettering on the front cover and the spine cover. A great reprinting of a letter to Wallace in Volume 1 from President James Garfield after he read the book. Looks like the book was originally printed in 1880. This version was done in 1892. So not a first edition. The books are profusely illustrated with something ... moreon just about every page. Some loss of color to the spine covers. Most likely from sun exposure. No foxing or brown spotting going on. No musty or mildewy smell. Some wear to the top and bottom of the spine covers. Loss of finish to the covers at the corners. Each book is 8.25" tall. By 5.5" across, by 1.5" wide. The first volume is 438 pages in length. The second book is 416 pages in length taking it up to a total of 854 pages.
