There are no apparent pencil marks, underscoring or other damage to the books. Two of the books do have some folded pages in the beginning. We have shown one in the pictures provided. The other has less folder corners in the front, but a small nick on one of the folds. The artfully decorated linen covers are intact, and the cover and spine printing only slightly faded. We note some slight edge wear from being stored on shelves over the years. There is a nicely illustrated plate in the front of each book but no other illustrations. There is no writing or inscriptions in the front or back of the books. Each book measures approximately 4-1/4 x 8-1/4" and is about 1" thick including covers. Antique Books Hawthorne Lot of 2House of the 7 Gables great book recitations HC
Antique Books Lot of 2 by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Blue one is The House of the Seven Gables Arlington Edition and the Greenish one is The Great book of Recitations and Dialogues Three Volumes in One. Both published by Hurst Publishing Company. No Dates in either one except for the Preface in the Arlington Edition of 1851. However. That is from the original date of first printing and not when this book was first printed. These are probably early 20th centruy to the 1920s. All pages intact and connected. Paper is brown from age. Paper is thick. Spines are flexible and some of the pages at binding are not showing signs of loosening. Please refer to pictures for general condition. Both are showing signs of use and age that are common for books of this era. Check out my!

Corners have worn through, and edges show lots of fingers have turned the pages due to the various discolorations, but wow, intact still, just a bit fragile. Picture 3 shows the most serious issues, former name was written then erased and discoloration, vertical, yellow and tanning.
