Antique c1870 huge leather-bound King James Version Holy Bible. Includes 301 original full-page engraved prints. Many by Gustave Dore, and 149 maps. This American edition includes the Apocrypha and many textual helps, including a concordance, index, the Psalms in metre, Smith's Dictionary of the Bible, and a variety of historical works. Front endpapers are loose, but otherwise in excellent condition for its age. Dore engravings are marvelous! Altemus' Edition Milton's Paradise Lost Illustrated By Gustave Dore in Very Good Used Condition. I am not a bookseller or expert so please feel free to email me with any specific questions you may have and I will do my best to get the answer. The binding is tight and the pages clean throughout. There is some light discoloration from age on the edge of the pages. There is some wear to book's exterior but overall I would say very good for it's age. I am thrilled but also pained to offer my beautiful John Milton books for sale. Finding any edition of these 19thC books is extremely rare. Finding them for sale as a pair, from the same exact Henry Altemus' Dore's Masterpiece Series from 1889 to 1902 is beyond extraordinary. Not another exact Dante's Inferno found. Only one other exact Paradise Lost was found for reference. I spent a great deal of time researching these books. To share with you but also to list them as accurately as possible given how rare they are. If any of the information isn't correct, my apologies. Messages are always welcome from my fellow ebayers, thank you. Only published from 1889 to 1902. These books are from the Series#78 of Altemus' Dore's Masterpieces Series" A first edition of Paradise Lost was featured on Antiques Roadshow a few ... moreweeks ago. Appraised for $10,000.00. I decided to sell these after watching the show, the appraiser remarking on how rare any of the older editions are to find, highly collectable and coveted regardless of"any" condition flaws. He called the pages the"heart" of the book, these editions have pages and end papers that look almost new! The book boards and spine easily repaired and or refinished. Worthpoint. Bookfinder and Abe books are great research sites, however there is only one exact edition available out of all three at this time. Paradise Lost from this Masterpiece Series found on Bookfinder, it has extensive water damage and is listed for $402.99. Not another exact edition of Dante's Inferno can be found for sale anywhere. I researched them for over two hours. This information is subject to change with any new listings. Information about both books ~ They measure 11.75" x 9 and 5/8" Brown three quarter book cloth with gilt decorated spine and side. The Art Nouveau letters on the cover are gorgeous and quite large.
