Texas Galveston City Bay 1852 by Mitchell antique engraved hand color map Map of the State of Texas Issued 1852. Philadelphia by S.A. Mitchell Fine original ... moreantique engraved map. Printed in the mid-19th century, on quality paper which retains its inherent structural flexibility and soundness. With original hand color. In Fair to Good or better condition. Light minor age wear, small soiling or staining and uniform toning but overall very presentable and attractive[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] The printed area remains visually pleasing. A nice impression of an interesting antique map which will look nice when displayed. Sheet measures c. 8 5/8" H x 11 1/4" W. Printed area measures c. 7 7/8" H x 10 1/2" W. 34966] Any defects along the sheet edges and in the margins may be seen in the photos. note: All old sheets of printed paper possibly have short edge splits. Each sheet has existed for a very long time and has probably been handled repeatedly in the course of it's existence. It has a history unique to it as an object. Most of the time any edge splits are short. Minor, insignificant and have been closed- either long ago or more recently with small pieces of archival tape. Most often these splits are trivial and easy to overlook visually. Basically, they would not significantly affect the piece adversely. The item is offered as seen. Please look carefully and make your decision knowing this antique image is nice. But it is not in perfect"like new" condition. However, with whatever flaws it possesses, it remains entirely worthy of ownership and inclusion in any related collection. We feel it will prove very pleasing to its new owner. We stand behind everything we sell. Everything we offer is guaranteed to be an authentic original antique item as described. We do not sell modern reproductions. Please visit our. Antique ledger from Texas oil company detailing all 1921 business transactions
This is really an amazing artifact from the past. It's a record of all of a small 1920s oil company's expenses for a two-year period. It includes orders for raw materials. Land and water use as well as charges for different jobs, all recorded in an delicate hand in ink that has turned sepia bronze in the last 90 years. It provides a line-by-line glimpse into the industry that would come to dominate West Texas for the majority of the century at a time when that future was hardly imaginable. It would be a wonderful addition to any home library or home or business office decoration theme or could be taken apart for amazing art projects. I'll refund overage on the postage. Thanks!

Plain Jane 1 WEST- TEXAS- ANNEXATION DOCUMENT- 1845 SPEECH OF REP. DROMGOOLE. DESCRIPTION WEST– TEXAS- ANNEXATION DOCUMENT– 1844 SPEECH OF SEN. T.H. BENTON. SPEECH OF MR. BENTON. OF MISSOURI, DELIVERED IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES, MAY 16, 18, AND 20, 1844, IN SECRET SESSION ON THE TREATY FOR THE ANNEXATION OF TEXAS. BENTON, THOMAS HART. Washington, Printed at Globe Office. 9” x 5.5” Printed wrappers, 21 pp. Benton offers reasoning for annexing Texas into the nation based upon three resolutions that he'd previously submitted but discussion of the resolutions had been postponed. The resolutions are: That the ratification of the treaty for the annexation of Texas to the United States would be an adoption of the Texian war with Mexico by the United States, and would devolve its conduct and conclusion upon the said United States; That ... morethe treaty-making power does not extend to the power of making war, and that the President and Senate have no right to make war, either by declaration or adoption; That the country dismembered from the United States by the treaty of 1819 with Spain, comprehending Texas and a large territory between the Red river and the Arkansas, and being geographically appurtenant to the United States, and essential to their political, commercial, and social system, ought to be reunited to the American Union as soon as it can be done with the consent of a majority of the people of the United States and of Texas, and when Mexico shall either consent to the same or acknowledge the independence of Texas, or cease to prosecute the war against her(the armistice having expired) on a scale commensurate to the conquest of the country. Benton considered the discussion of the 3 resolutions as the most appropriate mode of discussing the treaty. Concluding his speech, Benton offers, I want Texas; not the Texas of new dimensions, stretching from the head spring to the mouth of the Rio Grande, but the Texas of La Salle and of Jackson, with all the dismembered country between the Red River a

Farm Corner by Joe F. Combs(1963 HB) Signed First Edition Dust cover has a small tears the book is it self is in good condition. With a heart felt message inside. Early History of East Texas Farm Corner by Joe F. Combs East Texas and West Louisiana are rich in history and in the early days of this country. As now, were closely associated in business and commerce. Fact is, Natchitoches, La. was the seat of the Spanish governors who ruled over Texas for half a century. We might say that Natchitoches was actually once the capital of Texas. It is believed by some historians that Sieur Louis Juchereau de St. Denis. Laid out the faous El Camono Real, or King's Highway in 1713 or 1714, when he set out from Natchitoches for the west to increase trade with the Mexicans and Indians. One of the most famous of early-day ranches was"El Lobonillo. ... morea few miles east of San Augustine. It was on the King's Highway and was owned by Gil Ybarbo, famous in East Texas history. This ranch reached the dignity of a pueblo. Tramel's Trance was the name of an early-day road. A historic route from Nacogdoches to the Northeast. It was over this old road that such great men as David Crockett and Sam Houston traveled on their way to Texas. It ran along a region near the present boundary of Shelby and Nacogdoches counties. Raven Hill" was the plantation hoe of General Sam Houston. Built in 1844 and sold before the Civil War. It was located about four miles southeast of Cold Springs in San Jacinto County. It was named"Raven Hill" by the general because he was called the"Raven" by the Cherokee Indians. Liberty County was the home of the Orcoquisac Indians and an east-west trail they often tramped over on their foraging expeditions became the La Bahia. Or lower road in the 18th Century. It finally came to be known as the Opelousas Road, over which great cattle drives went in the early days. La Calle Real del Norte was an 18th-Century trail connecting the Indian villages of the Nacogdoches and Nasoni Indians

1937 Travel Diary Lincoln NE to New Orleans Texas Mexico Colorado Photo Ephemera
This is a wonderful 1937 travel diary and scrapbook put together by a woman living in Nebraska(near Lincoln I believe) who takes a trip with three others and heads to New Orleans. Texas. Mexico. Colorado and back home. The diary consists of 126 pages with typed entries and tons of scrap including original photos. Postcards, brochures, maps and more. In fact on the very first page you can see a map showing the route traveled as she’s marked it. All of the pages were housed in a three ring binder but since they were numbered I decided to take them out as the rings on the binder were rusting and the pages were difficult to turn. I will include the binder with this auction. This journal would really be quiet beautiful with an archival binding. She doesn’t write her name but she does write this entry…Sunday May 9 th. And the 13 th Wedding anniversary ... moreof the Scrantons. Does that mean her last name is Scranton? Not quite sure but worth mentioning. Her detailed descriptions of the trip is fascinating. They spend a great deal of time in New Orleans and Mexico. Both of which she loves. She’s a fabulous writer as you will see in the following excerpts… 1937“Saturday May 8 th, Southward bound. New Orleans. Galveston. Old Mexico. The historic Southwest, where ever our fancy may lead us. Fifteen days of vacation and no forwarding address! Nothing can stop us now. What does it matter if there are a few light rain showers. They only freshen and brighten the beautiful green countryside. They take Route 71 to Kansas City and stay the night there. On to Bentonville Arkansas and Fayetteville Arkansas. An hour later and then Northern Louisiana and farming country. Cotton fields. Lots of Negroes, children and dogs. Women and children chop cotton; men cultivate with a single mule and all work slowly. Ida, the first town in La. Big cotton fields interspersed with Negro shanties, similar to shanties in Ark. Sharecroppers; stovepipes sticking out of windows, wooden window doors open in the daytime, no screens, and t

1836 Book Year Of Texas Revolution Alamo Handwritten Handmade Paper Vellum Cover
You are bidding on one(1) 1836 Handwritten Book/Manuscript/Journal This is a very intriguing antique book that was purchased at an estate sale in Denton. Texas about a year ago. The owner's family really didn't know anything about it and honestly, I don't either. It is 266 hand-written pages, all on handmade paper with vellum cover. There are about 20 different sections or chapters and all are written in a different hand. The language appears to be Spanish but I can't say that for sure. I've taken pictures of many pages so hopefully you can discern it better than I can? Having been published in 1836, I can't help but wonder if it doesn't have something to do with the Texas Revolution, which was taking place at that time? Again, I can't translate it so that's just a guess on my part. The things I can say ... morefor sure are that it's dated 1836 and the handmade paper and vellum cover definitely support that. It's all handwritten by 20+ different individuals. Antique Book/Manuscript/Journal Handmade Paper Vellum Cover Handwritten in 20+ Different Hands(Probably Spanish) 266 Pages 1836 Purchased at Estate Sale in Denton. Texas(January 2014) It's clearly a really interesting piece. Take a look at the pictures and see if you can glean anymore info about what it is exactly.

This important letter dated July 4th. 1870, is penned entirely in Richardson's hand on his"Galveston News" letterhead. Willard Richardson(1802-1875) was a devoted Southerner and outspoken newspaperman who defended slavery and supported Texas secession. At the time, Confederate army veteran Morse was working in Washington, D.C. as a Louisiana newspaper correspondent. In 1844, during the last presidential campaign of the republic, Moore traveled to Washington, D.C. leaving Richardson as pro tem editor. Richardson's editorial competence and aggressive style prompted the interest of the owners of the'Galveston News' Wilbur H. Cherry and Benjamin F. Neal, who offered him the post of editor in late 1844. Once in Galveston. Richardson made a reputation as'prudent, persevering, cool and indomitable, with a propensity for dramatic combativeness that earned him the nickname of"the Napoleon of the Texas Press. This financially unstable, forty-two-year-old bachelor was an anomaly among editors, but despite his rough image Richardson always secured support from the upper echelon of society. Mirabeau B.
