American Sunday School Union Child's Cabinet 50 Vols. Complete VERY RARE
We have up for auction a very rare and complete set of the 50 Volume American Sunday-School Union"Child’s Cabinet" This particular set appears to be from the 1st half of the 19th century as they all bear the American Sunday School Union address of No. 146 Chestnut Street. Philadelphia. The American Sunday School Union had its headquarters there during the early part of their existence under that name from 1827 to 1853. This set comes in the original glass front wooden bookcase. There are a total of 75 stories in the 50 volumes. Each of the 50 volumes measures 4.5 x 3 inches. A typical volume has around 30 pages with wood engraved illustrations. There are two known complete sets of the Child's Cabinet; one at Southern Methodist University and one at Yale University, although sets differ in small ways based on later publication ... moredates. I have included descriptions from each University below. This is a fine example of the children's tract literature that was being offered to help support religious and moral education through the establishment of Sunday Schools throughout the pre-Civil War America. I have included pictures of the actual set that include typical condition of individual volumes, the marbled board covers of each volume, the glass front case and title pages of sample volumes. Condition overall is very good. Protected in original case. Light pencil indicating volume number inside front cover of each volume. Most volumes exhibit usual rubbing on marbled boards. A few have more significant wear. All pages of all volumes intact and readable. Minimal foxing for age. Some page corners have small folds. Vol. 22 has 2 half inch holes in two pages. Spines generally in good to very good condition. Most every title and many numbers in gilt on each spine readable. vol. 9, 20, and 27 show more significant wear on spine. Wood case with glass front solid with original hinges and latch set in place and fully functioning. Small damage 2 inch damage to wood near one of hinges. Begun in Philadelphia. Penns

1924-1956 School Ledger Eden Fond du Lac Wi Wisconsin Antique Vintage
This is a great find! This ledger begins with what appears to be the first year the school was in operation. Beginning in 1924-25. The ledger accounts monies coming in and out. It looks like Emma Braun was the first school marm. The school was heated with both wood and coal in the beginning. It is amazing to follow the growth of the school and transition over time, when they make improvements to the land, adding a fence, getting their first music outfit in 1929, playground equiptment in 1931, insurance and taxes over time, hiring additional staff, who is splitting wood and delivering coal, and on and on. Some interesting entries are when they started to get the Milwaukee Journal in 1936, electricity must have been installed around 1935, they bought a radio in 1939, the victory tax starting in 1942, enrolling in Wisconsin School of the Air, ... moreand something called Cancer Control. The ledger is complete for every year between 1924 and when it ends in 1956. I would assume the school was closed at that point since there are empty pages after that year's entry. The other thing that makes this ledger stand out from others I have seen is that it lists the names of people who provided services or supplies.
