The handle of the spoon is embellished with numerous mining scenes[see photos] including a Miner behind a gold pan with crossed pick and shovel and gold nuggets in the pan. Below that is a Miner in a tunnel with a pick on his shoulder. Under that are two ropes going down the sides of the spoon framing a flower with stem and leaves. At the bottom of the handle is an ore bucket suspended by the ropes. The bowl of the spoon has an embossed picture of the Mormon temple in Salt Lake City with the words“Temple” and“Salt Lake City” There is no date but the Temple depicted was completed in 1893 so it probably does not date earlier than that[although the Temple was under construction for 40 years] The spoon is also stamped“STERLING” on the underside[see photo] This is a small spoon measuring 3 1/2 inches long. Dutch Girl and Boy 1936 GREAT LAKES EXPOSITION Salt and Pepper Shakers The Great Lakes Exposition was held in Cleveland. Ohio, in the summers of 1936 and 1937, along the Lake Erie shore north of downtown. The fair commemorated the centennial of Cleveland's incorporation as a city. Conceived as a way to energize a city hit hard by the Great Depression, the exposition drew 4 million visitors in its first season, and 7 million by the end of its second and final season in September 1937. Dudley S. Blossom, a local philanthropist, became chairman of a civic committee that contributed $1.5 million to transform the idea into reality. The exposition was housed on grounds that are now used by the Great Lakes Science Center, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Burke Lakefront Airport, among others. A prominent entrance was at the north end of East ... more9th Street. The fairgrounds stretched from Public Hall to Lake Erie. And as far east as East 22nd Street, and covered 135 acres(0.55 km2) Fair attractions included a floating stage on the current site of the Great Lakes Science Center; the stage was home to jazz concerts by the Bob Crosby Orchestra. The fairgrounds reopened May 29. 1937, with Wallace Trevor Holliday, President of the Standard Oil Company, acting as President. The floating stage became the setting for Billy Rose's Aquacade, a water music and dance show produced by Billy Rose. It starred Johnny Weissmuller and Eleanor Holm. The Aquacade later traveled to New York City for the 1939 New York World's Fair. Some exhibits were secured from the Century of Progress. 1937 attendance was estimated at 3 million visitors. 1936 Cleveland Exposition Dutch Boy and Girl Figural Salt and Pepper Shakers. This cute couple stands approx. 5" tall. Two of their four buckets have their ORIGINAL twine! Beautiful blue and white colored figures. For auction is a great rare vintage Hamm's Beer advertising piece. This is a salt shaker from a bar that is glass with great painted on graphics. The shaker says Hamm's Beer- Howard Meyer Jackson Wholesale Company- Detroit Lakes Minnesota- Refreshingly yours from the land of sky blue water. The graphics show some fading and wear. But cleaned up well after photos were taken. The shaker measures 3 3/4 inches tall by almost 2 inche diameter. The black metal lid is also in good condition with minor wear.
