These are titled Les Modes Parisiennes ... morePeterson's Magazine July 1881 The Croquet Party. These were engraved and printed by Illman Brothers. These two pages have been removed from the book for 1881 and placed in a nice frame. I don't know how long ago they were framed but I know that the company that did it doesn't exist anymore. As you can see from the pictures there is some color but they are mostly black and white on paper that has turned brown. These are in very good shape for something 130 years old plus. Peterson's Ladies' Magazine began in 1842. By the 1860s. Peterson's Ladies Magazine had 150000 subscribers. Peterson's had been sold as a subscription gift that men would buy for wives and sisters. Peterson's cultivated the idea of middle class domesticity with articles and by focusing on fiction written mainly by women. This will give you a glimpse of the latest fashions for the summer of 1881. The measurements are Length 16 inches. Width 14 inches. These would be great for any collector or someone wanting begin a collection. There is a water spot around and above the woman on the far right side that looks like it has been there for decades and decades. Even so this is still a great picture. This original antique pre-civil war. Bound 1860 Peterson's Magazine is in remarkably good pre-owned condition. The spine. Front& back covers are worn but still attached, and the pages are in good condition with scattered darkening/foxing. Please see photos for condition. In thumbing through I didn't see any loose or ripped pages. Pencil signed name"D George" written on a blank page in the front of the book. It's full of steel and wood engravings. Patterns, hand colored fashion plates, home medical remedies, amateur short stories, music scores, poetry, and much more with interesting insights into life and the spoken language back then. 490 numbered pages. I'm also including another bound volume from 1866. Which is in fair to poor condition with a loose front cover, but many of the engravings& pages are still ... morein good condition.
