RARE BOOK COLLECTION of the WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY SCHOOL of DENTAL MEDICINE(also known as the McKELLOPS COLLECTION) Detailed Photocopied List of the rare book collection of the Washington University School of Dental Medicine. Located in St. Louis, Missouri. The list is accompanied with an undated cover letter from the Dean. On University letterhead, that states, in part: Washington University School of Dental Medicine is considering disposal of its rare book collection(also known as the McKellops Collection) Enclosed is a list of the contents which we are sending to you and other institutions and bookdealers. The condition of the books has been described by our former Librarian. Though the bibliographical list and the cover letter are undated. They are probably circa 1991, when the School of Dental Medicine closed. It appears that this important ... morelibrary was never sold. Rather it was transferred to the Washington University Bernard Becker Medical Library. The bibliographical list is photocopied on 8.5” x 14” paper. Printed on one side only. There are 93 pages plus an Addendum of 9 pages. The pages are unbound(i.e. loose) and held together with a large binding clip at the upper left corner. Condition: The cover page has several stiff creases. Edge wear, and small edge tears, but is still bright and clear. The book list pages have corner creases and some edge wear, but are still bright and clear. Every page of the rare book list has been stamped with“Washington University/ School of Dental Medicine” at the upper right corner. LOT 3 VERY RARE EARLY AMERICAN NOAH WEBSTER 18TH C. 1700'S BOOKS SPELLING READER
A very rare and interesting bit of American History I am offering this lot of 3 18th century Noah Webster books. I am not an expert in this field. So please bear with me as I try to describe these books. I purchased these a number of years ago at an estate auction. Several of the books have the names of the children who used these written inside. I did a little bit of research and found out that these books belonged to the Clapp family who resided in Kent County Rhode Island in the late 1700's. The books included in the lot are as follows: 1. The American Spelling Book. Analysis of Sounds in the English Language. by Noah Webster Published by Thomas& Andrews. 9th edition. I cannot make out a date but I believe about 1791 Condition: This book is in poor shape. Unfortunately. The binding and front and back covers are intact but very ... morebadly worn and damaged. When you open the cover, children's doodles and scribbles from 200 years ago pretty much black out what appears to have been a portrait of George Washington. It looks as if the first page is torn and half of it is missing. The next page, the Preface has some hand written notes on it. It appears that the book begins on page 11 and goes to page 152. Most of the pages show wear. Some are badly torn, stained or damaged. Most are legible. Very interesting section on Familiar phrases and early dialogues. There are numerous handwritten references to Warwick. That is a town in Kent County, where I believe the Clapp family lived. 2.
