With the name“Earl” or“Earls” appearing both on the outside and many times on the interior. At some point someone came into possession of the ledger and began pasting over the pages with various newspaper clippings such as“Confessions ... moreof a housekeeper” and articles. Stories and poems from“Arthur’s home gazette” The Saturday Evening Post” and“The Atlas” just to name a few. There are also various images cut from publications made from stampings. I saw a date on a few, most of the clippings are from around 1824. Some of the clippings are peeling off or loose, and the ledger underneath seems to be unharmed by whatever glue was used(I suspect you could remove all of the newspaper clippings to restore the ledger to its original state. Also included is a cashed check paid for taxes in 1827 to Medford. NJ to Joseph S Bright. I suspect this store was somewhere in New Jersey because of some writing on the last page that says Birmingham NJ(it may also say NY, not sure) I believe this item was from a store somewhere in what is now Pemberton NJ, in or around the pine barrens. For as old as it is this book is in pretty good shape. The cover is peeling and some of the binding is pretty loose, but it holds together quite well. The book measures 16in by 6.5in by 3in Don’t miss out on a chance to own a piece of history! Shipping combined on multiple purchases Please any ask questions before purcha

1917 HANDWRITTEN NOTEBOOK GENEALOGY of FIRST SETTLERS in PASSAIC VALLEY, NJ Rare
MANUSCRIPT GENEALOGY RESEARCH. NOTES, TABLES, FAMILY TREES, ETC. and ASSOCIATED EPHEMERA, circa 1917. This genealogy research was undertaken by MARY K. THURSTON. And delves primarily into HER ANCESTORS and RELATIONS who were among the FIRST SETTLERS in PASSAIC VALLEY of NEW JERSEY. The Genealogy appears to be mainly on the AMERICAN FAMILY TREES of the MEEKER FAMILY(Captain Charles Meeker. Et al) the LYON FAMILY(Captain Joseph Lyon, et al) CRANE FAMILY, and MILLER FAMILY, with branches of MANY OTHER RELATED FAMILIES, including: EVETTS, THOMPSON, SAYRE, MARSH, PRESTON, SEABROOKE, and Other Families. The SOCIETY APPLICATION appearsto have been the ... moreimpetus for the major part of the research. Laid-in is a FOUR PAGE APPLICATION which was APPROVED and ACCEPTED by the SOCIETY on June 16. 1917. There are also some letters and other items dated 1915 and 1916, either laid-in or stapled onto the pages. However. It also appears that some family research continued until the 1930s. There is a pinned-in letter dated 1933, thanking the recipient(the writer of this research filled notebook) for some genealogical information; and there are a couple later pages with genealogical charts and notes with dates in the 1920s. There are approximately 125 pages FILLED with HANDWRITTEN NOTES. FAMILY HISTORIES, FAMILY TREES, GENEALOGY RESEARCH, etc. Lined pages, 6” x 9.5” 3-hole punched on their left side. 1930 Diary Pemberton NJ woman romance Philadelphia travel movies Ethel Haines
1930 Diary of Miss Ethel Haines. Pemberton NJ This is one of the few diaries I've had that was used by a single woman. It's interesting in that she mentions her education. Dating, going to movies. 1906 Handwritten Diary Carolyn Moore Plainfield NJ Patchogue L.I. Clifton Hotel
Well. After hours of reading and research I finally came up with some incredible information about the author of his diary. This is a 1906 handwritten diary and in the front it says Carolyne R. Moore. I found out that Carolyne lived in Plainfield New York but most of her time was spent on Long Island in the resort town of Patchogue. Staying at a cottage and also at the Clifton Hotel. The photos that you see in the scans shows the Clifton Hotel in its prime and about the time she stayed there. I would have loved to have seen it in 1906 when Carolyne was there but the next best thing is being able to read all about her adventures while in Patchogue. The diary is full of handwritten entries not only about her time while on Long Island but of course also in her hometown of Plainfield and trips to New York City. In fact I was able to find on the ... moreweb a New York newspaper called The Brooklyn Daily Eagle dated Sunday. June 24, 1906. The title reads, NOTES OF THE SEASON AT LONG ISLAND WATERING PLACES” stating that Carolyn and her mother were spending the season at the Clifton. In the diary she states that her father passed away on December 26 th. 1900 and sure enough I was able to find his obituary and what I found out blew me away… NEW YORK DAILY TRIBUNE: Obituary: William H. Moore. Of West Sixth-Street died today at his home in this city. He was 46 years of age, and was born near Rahway. Early in life he became interested in electricity. And for many years had been employed by Thomas A. Edison. He served two terms in the Plainfield Common Council. Mr. Moore leaves a wife and one daughter. If that isn’t enough I found out that Mr. Moore. Our author’s father, played a huge part in the creation of the light bulb and I quote… A legend grew about how Edison came upon his new filament almost by accident. On a hot summer day in July 1880. Edison was cooling himself with a bamboo fan when he suddenly got an idea. He cut off a long piece of bamboo. Carbonized it and found it to be an excellent filament material. The

8 Antique Original Sepia Photos Dover NJ The Schwarz Block Morris Canal 1800's
I wish I could say that these photos are in mint condition but sadly they aren’t. Seven of them are photos of Dover New Jersey and they are all originals. They were once in an album or scrapbook because there are some glue marks on the back and even left over pieces of the album page. I found them already loose and have no idea who removed them. The glue spots on the back almost made them transparent(a little) when held up to the light but only where the glue spots were. Which is in the center. The shadow of the glue marks also shows through a little bit on the front of the photo so please keep all this in mind when purchasing. I have no idea the date of these photos but they are on a thinner paper, not card stock. I’m assuming they date from the late 1800’s into the early 1900’s. I know anyone that knows the history of Dover can tell when ... morethey were taken. They measure just under 4 ½” x 6 ½” Then there’s a cabinet photo I found with the lot and it was in a sleeve and on the sleeve it said“Somewhere around Dover” Not sure if they were correct but I thought I’d add it to the group. This particular photo measures about 4 ¾” x 5 ½” Please ask any questions before bidding and buy as is.

100pc Handwritten Letters Moore Sisters Havre de Grace MD Farmingdal NJ Cushman
This group of letters belonged to two sisters; Geraldine and Dorothy Moore of Havre de Grace Maryland. There are about 100 pieces in this lot and about 60 of them are handwritten letters. Then there are some empty addressed envelopes and other cards. The most interesting thing about this group was that when I first starting reading them I thought for sure the two sisters would be married because most of the letters are love letters to one or the other. However. There are several different men represented but the census records show that they are still single in 1940. They must have been quite the catch too because all of the men who wrote sure thought a lot of these girls. Their father was Lester and their mother Isabelle. Dorothy was the oldest daughter born in 1894 and then Geraldine was born in 1900. At one point the family lived in New ... moreJersey but after their father died(and I believe he died before 1910 as he is not on the census records) Mom and the two girls moved to Havre de Grace Maryland in the“Burns Apartments. I found a fabulous vintage photo of these historical apartments and scanned it here. Later on in the 1930’s some of the letters were addressed to South River New Jersey. The earliest letter is from 1908 and the last letter dates from 1937 with most of the letters being from the 1920’s. As I said above. Most of these letters are love letters or letters from their boyfriends. In fact I was rather shocked too because there are several letters from Douglas Hobart Cushman who lived in Farmingdale New Jersey to Dorothy. His letters talk about engagement rings. Buying a house, marriage plans and everything but then nothing. In fact Dorothy gets letters from other men after this. Douglas does say that until he gets the right job he can’t marry her. I believe they are engaged for a few years too. In the 1930 census it shows Douglas as still living at home and not married. Then in the 1940 census I found him and this time married to a woman by the name of Mildred. Wouldn’t I have loved to have known

Up for auction today are 36 handwritten letters and most seem to have their original envelopes; however someone(not me) has removed the stamps from the envelopes. Between the 36 letters there are about 110 pages of writing. The letters are from the 1860’s and 1870’s and all of them have to do with the Craig family of New Germantown New Jersey. Sarah(Sallie) Craig is the main recipient of the letters. I found the family on several of the census lists. In the 1850 census it looks like Sarah’s parents were Robert and Elizabeth(Field) Craig. Siblings were; William. Richard, and Gertrude. They also had several workers living with them at the time. Sarah was born in 1846 or thereabouts. Then in the 1860 census there are 15 people listed in the household; Robert Craig, Elizabeth Craig(parents) William Craig, Richard F. Craig, Sarah E. Craig, Gertrude ... moreP. Craig, Henry F. Craig, Mary Craig, Anna Craig, Mary Adler, Peter Pettinger, John R. Creator, William G. Sodd, and Elizabeth L. Craig(whose 47) Sarah’s father is listed as a farmer and the value of his estate is at $16,000 which is a great deal back then. It also lists their place of residence as Tewksbury. Hunterdon. New Jersey. Sarah eventually marries Henry M. Kline and there are several letters from Henry in this lot before they marry. Then I found a great biography on this family in a book titled. Portrait and Biographical Record of Hunterdon and Warren Counties. New Jersey. It’s mainly about the father. Robert Craig, and I quote… Robert Craig was born March 10. 1815, and became one of the most influential citizens of this locality. A Democrat in politics, he held numerous official positions of trust and honor, to the entire satisfaction of all concerned. During the war, when much money was handled, he, in his capacity of committeeman and treasurer, won the commendation of all, and altogether he was 011 the township committee about a quarter of a century. He was one of the pillars in the Eamington Presbyterian Church, and for many years was a ruling

Ephemera Lot Shoemaker Woolf Family Warren NJ Handwritten Diaries Ledger 1935-42
This is another group I don’t have time to read. All of the items belonged to the U. S. Grant Shoemaker of Warren New Jersey. They date from the 1930’s and 1940’s. There are two diaries with this group and between the two they have about 230 pages. I found the diaries very interesting because each time I glance through a page it seems there was an argument about the estate. The diaries date from winter of 1937 through to spring of 1942. Also with this lot are 2 handwritten expense journal/ Log book related to the Estate of U.S Grant Shoemaker. The one designated Cash Book starts in 1935 ends 1948 is approx. 1/3 filled in. The 2nd log book ends in 1945 partially used. Plus a Last Will& Testament Warren County of Laura May Woolf 1948. Late of Township of Greenwich. Then many loose receipts from local business in the Stewartsville and Phillipsburg ... morearea related to the care. Upkeep and rental of farm of the Grant Shoemaker Estate. Some included are: J.S Pickel& Son Old Company's Lehigh Coal in Bloomsbury, Aaron LaBarre Tinsmith South Main Street(Green's Bridge) Marketing Card for 1941-42 Wheat Market Year, Harry Pursell Phillipsburg, Phillipsburg Supply Co, Petition Renunciation of substituted Administration C.T.A by Next of Kin and request for appointment in the matter of the Estate of U.S Grant Shoemaker by Rosa, Richard, Sybilla, Harry and Donald Shoemaker and Mildred Rush 1948. All in all a great group that deserves further study. dhep.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk%601d72f%2Bishm%3Ed%7Fhep-147b2c51f5f-0x10c-
Handwritten Diary Victor King Plainfield NJ Goes 2 Boy Scout World Jamboree 1924
There is so much to this diary and not just the amount of writing but the contents and the provenance. Which I’ll start with the latter. The diary belonged to Victor R. Kind of Plainfield N. J. He was the son of Victor Louis King who was a chemist and worked for the firm of Calco Chemical Company, later part of American Cyanamid Company. Possibly the most incredible thing about Victor Sr. was that he attended the University of Zurich in the early 1900’s and was a student of Albert Einstein’s! He died in 1958. His son. And the author of this diary, was a very prominent lawyer as you will see in his obituary… Victor R. King. Of Plainfield. N.J. Died April 18, 2003. He practiced law in Newark. Plainfield and North Plainfield until his retirement in 2000 at the age of 91. He was a trustee of the New Jersey Bar Association and president of the ... morePlainfield and Union County bar associations. A charter member of the Union County Ethics Committee. He was also on the New Jersey Supreme Court's Advisory Committee on Professional Ethics. He was a Union County park commissioner. An attorney for the Plainfield Board of Education, a trustee of the Fanwood Community Foundation and a longtime member of the Plainfield Shakespeare Society. He served with distinction in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a combat information officer on the USS Gyatt. I found an amazing web site that has so many incredible photos showing the King’s involvement along with historical ephemera and much more and all of it has to do with the history of the Plainfield Garden Club which they were long time members and extremely active in it. I can provide that to the winning bidder if they would like. But really all you have to do to find it on the web is to put in“Plainfield Garden Club King” and you’ll come up with the web sites. Now as far as this diary is concerned; it is completely full of handwritten entries and those entries represent the time frame from 1924-1928. It’s not the typical 5 year type diary that one would buy but really a page a day d
