In 1966 he became associated with Gallery 84, one of the original 10th Street Galleries, where over the next twenty years he had eight one-man shows. It looks like an account of personal household expenses as well as farm and business expenses. Records are kept with prices for an assorment of sundries and bills. As well as the sale of hale. Oats, potatoes and other crops, and records of labor expenses and wages(10 cents an hour! RARE 1846 Illuminated Bible From Trinity Church New York City, Harper & Brothers
This is a extremely rare piece of religious history! What you are looking at is a Illuminated Bible from 1846 printed by the Harper& Brothers Publishers out of new york. A very rare publisher alone. But not only is this a rare and fine quality example of a antique bible, it is from the Trinity Church in New York City. The bible contains the new and old testaments. The front cover of this book features a beautiful depiction of the church, and on the back cover is the alter of the church! Giving this book amazing historical provenance. The book itself is in good condition for it's age, with all pages intact and still strongly fastened to the binding. I did not find any written on pages in the book, and no ripped, torn, or folded ones either. There are only a couple towards the beginning of the book that have a small amount of stains ... moreon them. The only major flaw on this entire book is the front cover has broken off, very cleanly, but is it broken off. After speaking with a book expert, this could be around a $300 repair to reattach the front cover, and repair the back cover to be sure it doesn't fall off either. other than that the book is in what I would call amazing condition for being as old as it is. All pages are still crisp and clean for the most part. The last one of these books to go up for sale was in 2011, and it sold for a price of $1,500! But due to the damage to the cover, I am offering it at a reduced price. If this book does not sell for this price, I am going to have it restored myself, and re list at the last recorded sale price. So don't miss the chance to get this amazing piece of religious history at a bargain price! Just look over the pictures I have included below to see the true quality and uniqueness of this great edition of a illuminated bible. Any& All Reasonable Offers Will Be Considered!

3 diaries for Oscar Simmons ,1881 ,1883 and 1886 living in New York City
3 diaries loaded with the day to day activities of Oscar Simmons Shopkeeper in New York City during the 1880's. I am not able to tell whether Oscar was an employee or an owner of his own clothing shop but I believe his lifestyle discussed in these three diaries indicate him to be a man of means who was a store owner. Of the three diaries one is much larger then normal and has his name stamped in gold leaf. He also wrote his name and address inside the cover of that diary. Perhaps another indication that he was a man of means. This diary captures his daily life events. His schedule visits and travels. He marries Ida Nichols in February of 1881 who is the Grandaughter of Reverend Jarvis Zophar Nichols a son of the revolutionary war. The Reverend Nichols and his wife lived in Harlem during that time and Oscar and his wife Ida took frequent ... moretrips to visit them prior to their deaths. These diaries capture the eventual death of both Grandfather and grandmother in the same year within three days of each other in August of 1881 and the family events around that time. Oscar appeared to be a meticulous note taker and every page is written on except for some brief abscences in 1883 and 1886 when I believe he was possibly ill. An interesting collection of his life events to read through that gives you an insight into how life was living in New York City.
AMERICANA TRAVEL EXPLORATION New York Adirondack Mountaineering Engraved Plates
Mikebooks122 proudly presents a copy of a RARE. ORIGINAL, 1853 EDITION OF: The Adirondack; or Life in the Woods. It was authored by the illustrious J.T. Headley. Published by Baker and Scribner. In New York in 1853. Our research could find only one other available copy. Mr. Headley was born on the 30th of December. 1814, at Walton, in New York, where his father was settled as a clergyman. It is a wild and romantic spot on the banks of the Delaware, and his early familiarity with its scenery doubtless occasioned much of his love of mountain climbing, and indeed his descriptive power. He commenced his studies with the law in view. But changed his plan; and after graduating, at Union College, became a student of theology, at Auburn. He was licensed in New York, and a church was offered him in that city, but his health was feeble, and his physician ... moredissuaded him from attempting to preach. Unwilling, however, to abandon his profession without an effort, he took charge of a small church in Stockbridge, in Massachusetts, where he thought he could give himself the most favorable trial, but after two years and a half, broke down completely, and planned a European tour and residence for his recovery. He went to Italy in the summer of 1842. Intending to spend the winter there, the summer in Switzerland, and the next winter in the East. The state of his health, however, led to some modification of his design; he remained in Italy only about eight months, traveled some time in Switzerland, passed through Germany and the Netherlands, went into Belgium, thence to France, then over England and Wales, and finally home, having been absent less than two years. His health being worse than when he went abroad, he gave up all idea of following his profession, and turned his attention to literature. Headley explains his work in the preface. The letters in this volume embrace two different summers which I spent in the forest. An attack on the brain first drove me from the haunts of men to seek mental repose and physical strength in

1798 NEW YORK SCHEME TO DEFRAUD REVOLUTIONARY WAR VETERANS OF THEIR BOUNTY LANDS
An original manuscript sworn legal deposition dated June 20. 1798 of Henry Van Rensellaer regarding detailed information about a scheme he was asked to participate in to defraud Revolutionary War veterans of their bounty lands in the unsettled region of Onondaga, New York. The plan involved a list of names provided by friends in the claims office of those veterans who had not yet claimed their bounty lands. It was then necessary to find willing participants to impersonate the named veteran and put in a claim for the deed. The deeds would later be transfered to the leaders of the scheme who would sell them for personal profit. Henry then lists the names and accomplices of those he knows are part of the scheme. An interesting legal document that needs further research. When the Revolutionary War ended, many states including New York were unable ... moreto pay the money owed to the soldiers for back pay. Instead, they were granted lands in the western territories as payment. Many did not wish to move, and sold their lands to others and to speculators. This scheme was obviously to defraud those who did not come forward, and would literally steal the lands from them.Four pages, 8" x 13 1/2" partially shown] folds, handmade rag paper, very good condition,Guaranteed original.$4.00 shipping. 1851 NEW YORK CITY LETTER RE MECHANICAL PROBLEMS OF STEAMSHIP ATLANTIC AT SEA
Very interesting 2-1/2 pp. letter. regarding the mechanical difficulties of the transatlantic auxiliary sail steamship ATLANTIC at sea. Dated New York City, Feb 17 1851, from Augustus L. Hyde to Melville"Melly" E. Mead, Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut, with red New-York/ 5 cts. Feb 18(1851) postmark. The content reads. In part: The news of the ATLANTIC has created quite a sensation in the city. The AFRICA arrived Saturday night with the passengers of the ATLANTIC and the newsboys[have] been in a great noise in 2nd Avenue. Crying out their extras about half past twelve Sunday morning. Perhaps we have seen the account in the papers, but if you haven't, I will tell you some of the particulars. The first news we had was by the ship SEINE from Havre[France] which ship was passed by the ATLA NTIC on her fourth day out, ... morebut was not seen afterwards. The ATLANTIC left Liverpool on the 28th of December and on the 6th of Jan she broke her[drive] shaft. They then took off the paddles and tried to go by sail, but on the 12th there arose very strong westerly winds. When she was within 897 miles from Halifax& 1,400 from N. York& having no bowsprit with which to tack, she was compelled to turn around and sail east again, and after several days sailing, going at the rate of 150 miles a day, they reached Cork Harbor, from which place the passengers were transferred to the AFRICA. The opulent Collins Line paddle wheel steamer SS ATLANTIC(2.845 tons) was launched by William H. Brown of New York City in 1850. On her maiden voyage in Jul 1850 from New York-Liverpool she made an American transatlantic speed record of 10 days, 4 hours and 45 minutes. But on a later voyage after ATLANTIC cleared Liverpool on Dec 28 1850, but went missing, it was not until Feb 15 1851 that news reached New York that she was safe. The steamer had broken her main shaft on Jan 6, nine hundred miles from Halifax, Nova Scotia, and lay to under sail for some thirty hours, while the floats were removed from her paddle wheels. S

1862 CIVIL WAR NEW YORK ABOLITIONIST LETTER DEMANDING EMANCIPATION OF SLAVES
An original and important manuscript letter written during the Civil War by Dr. Henry A. Hartt to former New York Governor John A. King. Dated May 1, 1862, forwarding a copy of the Constitution of the"Liberty and Union Association" for King's approval and endorsement. The organization had been created to unite all those in favor of"Emancipation as the grand result" of the war, and to prevent the"threatened dangers of a reconstruction with slavery" At this time, President Abraham Lincoln was already considering freeing the slaves within the Confederacy, but not those in states that remained loyal. It was a major political issue, pushed strongly by the abolitionist movement who feared a peace with the South that would leave slavery intact. Two pages, size 5" x 8" folds, very good condition, no envelope.HENRY ... moreALLAN HARTT[c1815-1893] was a prominent New York physician and leader of the Abolitionist movement in the City, whose house was later marked for burning during the Draft Riots of 1863. But there is a handwritten statement that give the place of"New York. This single handwritten leaf. With dates from 1806 to 1811. The size of the sheet is about 6 in. x 16 in. Notice that the costs are given in Pounds. For a total of 77 pence, which converts to 6 shillings and 5 pence(as shown on the leaf) 1 Bushel of rye" 1 Bushel of wheat" at the cost of 1 pound and 4 shillings; 1 Bushel and 13 Quarts of wheat" at the cost of 14 shillings; also ... morethe note that states: This day settled with Andrew Van Hoek and[illegible. The large"X" or Cross-Out through this entry probably means that it was now PAID; also"Do" means"Ditto. On the back side of the leaf there are monthly entries for Mindy Van Cott or Wendy Van Cott during the years 1810 and 1811. For weaving 52 1/2 yards. She received 1 pound 6 shillings and 3 pence; for weaving 38 yards. She received 1 pound 2 shillings and 2 pence; there is an entry about"linning" which may be"lining" there is also an entry for"blankiting. with"blanketing" referring to the material used for making blankets. Very interesting. Also, both sides have people(evidently much later) practicing writing their names: Henry Hewitt and Phebe or Phoebe Conydon. Because it is so hard to read the handwriting. There is also included a xerox copy with some of the deciphered words written above the lines( see the last scanned image) This leaf is a valuable piece of early American history. Condition

Robert A. M. Stern's New York 1960:Architecture and Urbanism
Condition: Very Good No returns. All sales final This is the third volume(and the fourth chronologically) in architect and historian Robert A. M. Stern's monumental series of documentary studies of New York City architecture and urbanism. New York 1880. New York 1900, and New York 1930 have comprehensively covered the architects and urban planners who defined New York from the end of the nineteenth century to the middle of the twentieth century. The post-World War II era witnessed New York's reign as the unofficial but undisputed economic and artistic capital of the world. By the mid-1970s, the city had experienced a profound reversal, and both its economy and its reputation were at a historic nadir. The architectural history of the period offered an exceptionally abundant and varied mix of building styles and types. From the faltering ... moretraditionalism of the 1940s through the heyday of International Style modernism in the 1950s and 1960s to the incipient postmodernism of the 1970s. Organized geographically, New York 1960 provides an encyclopedic survey of the city's postwar architecture as well as relating a coherent story about each of its diverse neighborhoods. Primary sources are emphasized, including the commentaries of the preeminent architecture critics of the day; the text is illustrated exclusively with a rich collection of period photographs
