Vintage 1939 Personal Handwritten Diary Mrs Mary A Shearer LENOIR NC Journal
Original vintage Diary of Mrs. Mary A. Shearer. Her town location is not in the front of the Diary. But we had another item that identified her town as Lenoir North Carolina, and she mentions being taken to Blackwelder Hospital, as well as other local areas mentioned. Calendar for 1938, but she marked through and changed it for the year 1939. The diary is a"Start Any Time" perpetual diary. Full of entries except for a few pages, however most are just visits from friends, weather, trips, canning, cooking, and other mundane daily experiences and tasks. Embossed/stamped sailing ship on the thin leather cover. Light aging, but overall in solid, VG or better condition. 5.5" x 3.5" full year of pages.

Handwritten WWII Love Letters Evangeline Poteat Bakersville Charlotte NC 1918-45
These 21 handwritten letters and most of them are WWII era. All but three of the letters are addressed to Evangeline Poteat who was from Boone and also Charlotte North Carolina. Evangeline was born in 1922 and was the daughter of Earnest and Pauline Poteat. The first three letters are actually written by Evangeline’s father Earnest who was a WWI soldier and he was writing home to his mother. Mrs. W. G. Poteat, who was in Bakersville North Carolina. I’m not sure where he’s stationed but I know in the first two letters he is overseas. Those three letters date from November 1918 to April 1919. Then Evangeline’s letters begin and they date from January 1943 through July 1945. Evangeline attended Appalachian State Teachers College and in fact if you use Ancestry’s web site you can look up Evangeline and see several photos of her from the College’s ... moreyearbook. I really wanted to see a photo of her after reading these letters too because she was quite the beauty according to the three soldiers who wrote to her. In fact here’s what one young man said about her in his letter… Kingsport Tenn. Jan. 13 th. 1943 Dear Evangeline. Well. I certainly did feel honored when I opened your letter and found I was first on your list, even though it was in the correspondence end. Most anyone, if normal, would feel the same way toward a good looking girl like you. Now, this is not a line. I just don’t believe in not expressing one honest opinion. You are the type of girl most boys have as a model…Always, Fred. Between the 21 letters there are 70 pages of handwriting and three different men writing to her and all three want to marry her. There names are Fred D. Baker. Cpl. Forrest Morgan and then the majority of the letters are written by V. T. Davis who does end up marrying Evangeline. He’s stationed in Burma and India at the time these letters are written. He departed this life after a short illness of 9 days on the 28th of Nov. last. And had his senses& faculties to the last. And left his fervent and ardent wishes& prayers& blessing with us all. And to you also. I wtote to you formerly of our Beloved Mother’s Death on the 14th of Feb. 1821. I wrote immediately after my Mother’s death and the reason that I delayed this letter was. That I was looking for your letter in return after receiving the news of my Mother’s Death. Mean time loving brother, I and the rest of our family did our duty as well as circumstances could do with us. And thank God they both had a decent, honorable burial. May the Lord’s will be done on earth as the angels do in Heaven. We must all soon follow them. May God in his mercy& grace help us to be duly preparing tha
