The last name is in Russian characters and I think this would be a near pronunciation. Maybe not. The book title is in Russian as well but my elementary Russian doesn't stretch this far. The book is entirely in Russian language. The picture on the front is of two smiling well dressed gentlemen arm in arm with top hats. Souvenir book commemorating the famous and deadly battle of July 1.2,3, 1863 at Gettysburg, Pa. There is a round color photo of Union General George Meade. Who was appointed to command the Army of the Potomac whose troops subsequently defeated those of General Robert E. Lee on the wood cover. I was told the wood used to make this wooden souvenir book came from Culp's Hill in the early 1900's. This was purchased a number of years ago at the Nashville. Tenn. Civil War Show. These great little photographs are of many sites in and around the battlefield. Monuments, memorials, and historical buildings and views of battle areas such as Little Round Top, Cemetery ... moreHill, Devil's Den and others. This neat book is all wood. With a wood spine that has all the little black& white photos attached by string. It appears one of the original strings that held this book together was replaced with a piece of white thread. The book was published by Hurst& Company. New York. It measures only 2 1/4" x 2 1/2" and has 192 pages. The book is in good overall condition. It has some normal wear as you would expect but is perfectly readable. The book would be perfect in a Miniature Literature collection. Charles& Albert Boni, who sold the Whitman Candy Company the idea of including one of their little books as a bonus in each box of their candy, beginning in 1916. Originally with leather covers, were 3" x 3 3/4" with"rap" edges- the cover bends at the edges to protect the interior pages. The covers are embossed with the title and author's name on the front within a decorative border, and along the spine as well, with the Little Leather Library shield on the back. In very nice condition. Slight wear to cover, the first 2 pages are darkened through contact with the cover; the interior pages are fine- no problems, quite light in color and perfectly legible. The binding was fine until I tried to take a picture of the first page and managed to separate the pages from the spine. The pages are firmly attached top each other. Early 19th Century Copy of an 18th Century Primer Book, Miniature RARE
This is a remarkable 19th century copy of an 18th century school primer. It is an 1850 Facsimile of a 1777 New England Primer. I have owned it for over 45 years. I have been a collector for more than that, but have no heirs interested in my books, so am seeking to find good homes for some of these wonderful pieces of history. I became hooked at the age of 12 when reading some Civil War era books in my Grandfather's library, and found candle wax on some of the pages.where some unknown person studied by candlelight when that book was new. Inside this book, there are a couple of pages dedicated to the alphabet. The first one reads"Wife fon maketh a glad father, but a foolith fon is the heavenefs of his mother. S appeared to look like F in old English, and it really means" A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is the ... moreheaviness of his mother(her spirit) It is always a good exercise to read some old English, it reminds us from where we came. This little Primer has my name plate and seal on the inside of the cover, but it came from another collector's home to mine. Please feel free to ask any questions, I will do my best to answer them.

The issue is a water stain at the top of the first page which reaches through many of the following pages, although to an increasingly lesser degree- the stain doesn't reach all the way through the pages, but there it is. Mostly wear to covers, and spots where they stuck together on the shelf they've sat on for the last 40 years. I do my best to describe them and point out any other problems. This particular book. Barrack Room Ballads" by Rudyard Kipling, is in nice condition- cover pretty good- not brittle- just a couple small spots. The first and last blank pages are darked from contact with the cover. The interior pages are fine- not yellowed or darkened, no tears or marks, all perfectly legible. The pages are bound together, no problem, but they have become separated from the cover where they had been glued. I've left it that way for someone more qualified than me to deal with. ANTIQUE 1847 MINIATURE BOOK "LITTLE WILL, THE ALPINE CROSS AND JESUS' SEAT"
This charming 29-page miniature religious book. Entitled"Little Will, The Alpine Cross and Jesus' Seat" was published in New York in 1847 by the American Tract Society, a well known producer of religious books in the mid-1800s. The purple cloth cover is one of several colors that were used for this lovely miniature; it exists in brown and green as well. The purple seems to be rarer. Though this is just an observation and not confirmed. It's in good condition for a miniature of this age. The cover shows wear. Especially the gilt writing, and there is slight water damage on the upper right front. There are a few air bubbles in the rear cover. The spine and corners are in good shape. Some of the pages are loose and attached only with one thread. The gilt on the page edges is intact. It is 2 3/4 by 2 inches.
