This exquisite pendant artifact was found by a native who had been digging in a dry river bed at El Trifuno, Tamaulipas, Mexico, in March of 1983. The ... morebone shell pendant dates back to roughly 400AD and hails from the Huastec Indian culture. The intricate design features an ivory-colored bone shell and speaks to the incredible craftsmanship of the region's artisans. With its provenance intact, this piece is a true original and a must-have for collectors of Latin American ethnographic antiques. The artifact is roughly 2.5 inches in length, 1.5 inches in width and 1.25 inches in height. And the original price on the price tag was $250.00 so this is IMHO a really good deal.

Archive 38 Letters Maxwell New Mexico Cattle Rancher 1910s
Archive 38 Letters Maxwell New Mexico Cattle Rancher 1910s This is a wonderful collection of 38 letters from George Thomas Lambert to his wife. They are all from the 1910s and are from his time as the owner of the Keystone Dot Ranch in Maxwell. New Mexico. He gives great detail about life in New Mexico at the time. Most of them have their original envelopes and postmarks and are in good condition. They have great content and are several pages long. Here is a small sample of what is in the letters: I was so pleased to hear that possibly there are buyers for a western horse or two. I probably should have to get them in Texas. To send Ben alone would cost at least $200 with several head the whole car would not cost much more and I would send more. I must reduce the hors here to a working basis. The washing out of the big dam at Hebreere is of ... morecourse the topic and event of the day. A hole started underneath and then worked larger and larger until a gap about 200 feet wide was cut out… Another little child was lost in an irrigating duck the other day at Maxwell. Hardly more than a baby, toddled off and fell in. There was still a little life left when the father got it out but probably the parents didn’t know exactly how to see the child and when Dr Schwald arrived it was too late… There is so much talk of government ownership of everything that anyone can put away any money in that it seems sometimes as if cattle were about as safe as anything…all this socialistic tendency makes one almost sick of the United States…if only someone had lost Teddy in South Africa… The war is by no means a decided thing yet and there surely is great effort needed on Great Britain’s part to conquer. I am eagerly waiting Gorma’s return with the mail. Old Stag still does duty as a chore horse… Did I tell you that the Lee family returned from Oklahoma a few days ago. But you probably noticed in the mail about his accident. The Corey mules having run away with him throwing him out of the wagon and breaking a rib and arm beside a bad blow on

Howes3 R-381.1 Streeter/Tx = 1080 Raines/Tx = p.176 Sabin = 72202 The concluding chapter describes practicable routes to the Pacific Ocean. The appendix details the author's claims against the government of Spain. Housed in a custom clamshell box. With spine label. This copy shows why so few have survived the tender attentions of generations of book-binders. The paper covering the spine is gone. The the title label remains. Both covers are free. As are several early leaves including the title-page. There is a termite bore at the spine side of the sheets ending at page 325. Of varying dimension. It is largest at the front, 1" tall by 1/2" wide in the introduction. It barely touches the spine-most letters of two lines from pages 229-255. Though in no way effecting the readability. There is also a termite trail to the fore-edge. Which is much less evident by the advantage of untrimmed pages and wide margins. By bidding on this item. You agree to these Terms of Sale_ U.S.A. 1937 Travel Diary Lincoln NE to New Orleans Texas Mexico Colorado Photo Ephemera
This is a wonderful 1937 travel diary and scrapbook put together by a woman living in Nebraska(near Lincoln I believe) who takes a trip with three others and heads to New Orleans. Texas. Mexico. Colorado and back home. The diary consists of 126 pages with typed entries and tons of scrap including original photos. Postcards, brochures, maps and more. In fact on the very first page you can see a map showing the route traveled as she’s marked it. All of the pages were housed in a three ring binder but since they were numbered I decided to take them out as the rings on the binder were rusting and the pages were difficult to turn. I will include the binder with this auction. This journal would really be quiet beautiful with an archival binding. She doesn’t write her name but she does write this entry…Sunday May 9 th. And the 13 th Wedding anniversary ... moreof the Scrantons. Does that mean her last name is Scranton? Not quite sure but worth mentioning. Her detailed descriptions of the trip is fascinating. They spend a great deal of time in New Orleans and Mexico. Both of which she loves. She’s a fabulous writer as you will see in the following excerpts… 1937“Saturday May 8 th, Southward bound. New Orleans. Galveston. Old Mexico. The historic Southwest, where ever our fancy may lead us. Fifteen days of vacation and no forwarding address! Nothing can stop us now. What does it matter if there are a few light rain showers. They only freshen and brighten the beautiful green countryside. They take Route 71 to Kansas City and stay the night there. On to Bentonville Arkansas and Fayetteville Arkansas. An hour later and then Northern Louisiana and farming country. Cotton fields. Lots of Negroes, children and dogs. Women and children chop cotton; men cultivate with a single mule and all work slowly. Ida, the first town in La. Big cotton fields interspersed with Negro shanties, similar to shanties in Ark. Sharecroppers; stovepipes sticking out of windows, wooden window doors open in the daytime, no screens, and t

1850 CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH & NEW MEXICO MASSIVE GOVERNMENT REPORT 976pgs W/ MAPS
Very rare and historically important. January 1850 Message from the President of the United States detailing all known information related to the discovery of Gold in the California Territory and being a massive and comprehensive report on the state of affairs in California at this early date. This 976 page House of Representatives Document is titled"California and New Mexico. Message of the President of the United States Transmitting Information in Answer to a Resolution of the House of the 31st of December, 1849 on the Subject of California and New Mexico" Submitted by President Zachary Taylor, January 24th, 1850. 1st Edition/ 1st Printing. This 5 3/4" by 9" 976 page Volume includes 6 exceptionally important and early folding engraved maps of California and the Gold Regions and a seventh, full page, non-folding Map. ... moreZamorano states that this massive Government Document is"the most extensive source of authorities covering the period" This thick and massive government compendium contains a wealth of information on the annexation of Alta California by the United States, the changeover from Mexican to American rule, the transition from military to civilian government, and the earliest days of the Gold Rush. It systematically documents the work of the federal government in the newly won territory from 1847 to 1849. Arguably, these were the most important years in California history and no single publication provides as much raw data as does House Executive Document No. 17 offered here. The Volume opens with a brief statement by Mexican-American War hero President Zachary Taylor. Which touches on California's desire to be admitted to the Union as a state. This historically important, federal government publication then proceeds with a plethora of official proclamations, reports, circulars, and letters from virtually every important American official in California including Washington Bartlett, Walter Colton, R. B. Mason, Bennet Riley, Jonathan Drake Stevenson, Joseph Folsom, Stephen

1893 Navajo Indian country Arizona New Mexico condition 17 maps document
An original government document from 1893 on reports of the condition of the Navajo Indian country. 6 x 9 inches. 50 pages of text with 17 fold out maps. Obviously extracted from a larger volume. No covers and last map and last blank page are loose. No spine covering. Last map is very large and I did not unfold it. As the folds are a bit fragile from age with separation on some folds. Smaller maps also have some small fold separation, but again, I did not go through all of them and only pictured a couple. Text pages appear overall clean.
