This speculum has a bill that's 3 1/2" x 1 1/2" the handle and end of the bill is 4 3/4" long. That is extremely small for a speculum. So this piece is VERY rare. It's also rare because of its age and the fact that it's stainless steel; speculums are increasingly made of plastic as time goes on, and the non-disposable steel ones such as this have been all but phased out of professional medical use. This is partially the result of the discovery of HIV/AIDS and the resulting fear of sterilizable, potentially reusable medical tools. Disposable plastic speculums are used nowadays. The sensational aspect of this piece is the fact that it was intended for use in the vaginal exam of an infant or small child! It features a wide-view design with a large opening to allow for the introduction of instruments or tubes into the vagina. A child's or infant's speculum such as this one is very rarely used in professional medical practice because it's much too small for an adult virgin and speculums are generally not used in pediatric exams anyway.think about it. Perhaps it was more common in the past. It's considered to be too traumatic for both the child and the parent to experience. It can also unnecessarily stretch or break the hymen. Medical Antiques - Silver Leech Carrier
This silver leech carrier was made by Leuchar of Piccadily. London circa 1860. It is in extremely good condition. Leuchar was being managed by William and William Jr. when the carrier was made. The company was later sold to Asprey. This is an extremely rare item. Most probably used by a physician for his very wealthy clientele. It is extensively hallmarked.

Two Quack Medical Violet Ray Electrical Devices Rare BDSM d'Arsonval Antiques
Hello my lucky little shoppers. I have up for auction two of what I believe to be Quack Medical Violet Ray BDSM and“Health Improvement” d'Arsonval Machines. They were a recent Garage Sale find that I just couldn’t pass up. And I’m glad I didn’t. They have been quite the conversation piece at some recent parties The case(which looks like a lunch box) is a bit tattered with a carry strap of worn. But still sturdy leather. Open the case and there appears to be some sort of Nicholi Tesla inspired torture device. I did some research on it however and it turns out that it was used to treat medical ailments among other things. On the thick marble control panel is a metal tag that reads"Amos M.Gato 1815 W. 14 th St. LITTLE ROCK. AK. I did some research on old Amos and it turns out that he had an office there where I assume he performed treatments ... morewith this, or possibly sold this and other machines. This was all back in the early 1900’s so it’s hard to say for sure. The marble control panel has 3 black knobs. A black post with a stainless steel ball mounted on it, 2 stainless steel posts with machined screws in the tops of them and a tag that says”CAUTERY” And then there is the strange black handled lever that is mounted on a pivot point consisting of some other stainless steel parts and can be used to reach out and touch the stainless steel ball. It’s really all so very interesting. There is an electric cord that is sheathed in cloth and the plug isn’t really a plug. But instead has an adapter that you would screw into a light bulb socket. But wait… I’m just getting started. From there you move to what would be the lid of the case and here is where the fun really starts. There is an array of 7 different glass instruments of various interesting and provocative shapes mounted in clips to keep things from breaking. There is also a black rectangular object with stainless pieces and locking screws on both ends with a button in the middle of it.
