This copy is certainly of that period but may be a year or two later. It is a hard cover book in modern rebinding. It measures about 8.75 x 5.25" Contains 525 pages of text plus numerous full page illustrations and a large and very detailed double page folding map of Polynesia. The map opens to 10 x 8.5" with image ... morearea somewhat smaller. Publisher lines read, London, John Snow. There are also numerous other illustrations and vignette running with the very long and detailed text. Lots of information about Pol ynesia. Samoa, and other island in the Pacific. Some of which are known today by ot her names. There is also a healthy dose of Christianity and the objectives of Christian missionaries. But the eye witness accounts of real people in far of f places in the days when white people were few and far between is much more readable and interesting than the religious portions. This copy LACKS the title page and table of contents. In all other respects it is complete, it is priced for the value of the map and plates. Though I did not read it cover to cover I read enough of it to know that the author personally observed and wrote about an great number of people. Places, customs and religious practices all over the Pacific but especially in the Society Islands and Sam oa. The sections I found the most interesting were on the comparative linguistics of the languages of Pacific Island peoples. There is an interest chart that compares different words in a variety of Pacific languages(see photo)

For sale is a very interesting leather bound travel diary with the original pen. Imprinted with"my travel diary" The book was published in 1930, and was used by the owner in 1950. The book itself has two main sections: a very informative travel information section with relevant history/conversions/facts AND a section for the owner to document travels, voyages, and other notes. There are also a few maps within the book. Including the"Wanderchart" and the owner traced the travels with a pen. The traveler departed NYC on the SS Caronia. Cunard White Star line. August 5th, 1950. The traveler departed Europe on the SS Mauretania. Cunard White Star line. Date not specified. The traveler describes dinner and dancing at night along the Caronia. There's an antique photo negative that was found in the book. I am not sure of ... moreit's relevance. But maybe it was obtained during the travels. The owner documents some other travelers' addresses and backgrounds. The book is mostly used as a notebook. Rather than a diary. Most of the book is left blank. I believe the original owner traveled to Europe for a wedding. This is a nice piece of history that gives you a glimpse to what life was like traveling over half of a century ago.
