The American Magazine of Art. Vol 13, No. 2, February 1922 Published monthly by The American Federation of Arts. The Officers. Directors and Members of this organization are listed on the back cover of the magazine. This edition's feature story is about the Corcoran Gallery's Exhibition that ran from December 17, 1921 to January 22, 1922. It was an exhibit of contemporary American painters. John Singer Sargent was pointed out as the most brilliant of portrait painters. A painting called"South Room-Green Street" by Daniel Garber won the big prizes. It depicts a very dark room with white light streaming in as from heavan and it juxtaposes an old woman with a young girl. For all the layers of meaning that Mr. Garber put in his work he was awarded the Corcoran's Gold Medal award as well as a newly created William A. Clark ... moreprize that awarded him $2.000. The articled titled. Carson College for Orphan Girls" tells about the transformation by architecture of an insitution housing orphans into a home and school for orphan girls The magazines talks about upcoming"Federation" exhibits in Logan. Utah, Missoula, Montana and St. Petersburg, Florida. There are many pages that talk of the new developments at American museums. The Brooklyn and Boston museums have just recognized the value of"watercolors" as a medium and are now allowing the inclusion of watercolor works into their permanent collections. Pg 72 has a long list of Traveling Exhibitions. This magazine is in good condition although two pages in the middle have come loose from the stapled binding and I just noticed that page 59/60 has been ripped out. Beautiful Framed LIFE MAGAZINE centerfold- Grace Before Meat" 1945 THIS IS NOT A PRINT! This is a beautiful ORIGINAL centerfold which was an ad for the Swift Meat Company in Life Magazine. 1945. It appeared as a two page spread in the April 9, 1945 issue of Life Magazine. This was an ad for Swift& Company which was one of the major meat packers in the US, famous for Butterball turkeys among other products. The artist was Hadden Lundbolm and the expression, Grace Before Meat" comes from the title of an 1821 essay by Charles Lamb. I have included photos that show the center of the picture where the actual staples originally were located when attached to the magazine. Also, a picture has been included that shows the faint print on the backside of the two pages that make up the full picture. Front-inside ... morecover joint is cracked; rear-inside cover joint is detached. Front and rear outside covers are well preserved, though significantly rubbed. This is a good original National Geographic Magazine from August. 1909. Some soiling on the cover and what appears to be a minor mouse attack along the top and into the first several pages. The spine has a very small tab at the top. Otherwise intact. The color is not as bright as shown- the scanner enhanced it a bit. Buyer pays shipping and handling.
