This beautifully scripted ledger contains many names of local citizens of the time. It appears to be the records of a bank or realtor. This 1851-52 ledger is a major information source for a genealogist or historian. It begins with entries of the names of over 50 individuals or organizations. These are nearly 77 pages of individual rental accounts containing the name. Address and payment entries. Finally. There is a cash transaction section with hundreds of names entered. It is a great resource for a genealogist. Which locates persons at street addresses and sometimes describes the number of rooms rented. The hand scripted writing affords a beautiful example of that period’s contemporary penmanship. The ledger binding is leather with gold trim and has“LEDGER’ and‘B.H.E. COMMITTEE on the spine. The spine of this pre- Civil War book simply titles it"Davies Legendre" The title page. However, goes into much more detail. It is"Elements of Geometry and Trigonometry, from the works of A.M. Legendre Revised and adapted to the course of mathematical instruction in the United States, By Charles Davies, LL.D. The book was published in 1856 by A.S. Barnes& Co. of New York and H.W. Derby& Co. of Cincinnati. There is a bit of foxing. Ciphers on the inside of the back cover and a bit on the inside front cover. The edges of the cover show wear, but after nearly one hundred and sixty years, I feel that it is in excellent condition. This book is written by Enoch Pond D.D. Published by The C.A. Nichols Company. Springfield, Mass. 1896. There are also some loose pieces(not from the book) inside as well. I am counting on my photos to really best describe this rare book. Condition: Especially for being over 100 years old. This book is in Very Good Condition. It is not EXCELLENT. But Very Good. Inside the book. There are NO missing pages. No discoloration of pages. There are tissue paper protectors in between each illustrated page. The only torn page is one of the blanks at the end of the book. On a scale of 1– 10(ten being Mint) I can confidently rate the overall condition of the whole book to be a solid 7. If it wasn’t for the loose spine. I would rate higher. The pages inside are really nice. My photos are an accurate depiction of this item’s TRUE Condition. Antique copy of Gray's Anatomy Descriptive and Surgical. Copyright 1883 Tenth Edition. This book is a hardcover. Leather bound copy with the title on the spine in gold on a black field. There is a small paper label on the inside of the front cover that reads" J.H. Chambers& Co.Book Publishers. Sellers and Binders. Incomplete books Completed. 405 North 3rd St. Stlouis, Mo. The condition is good with the following issues: The first four pages. End papers and title page and the dedication page all have been partially consumed by some insect or other varmint. The worst damage is to the front end papers and title page which have been mostly consumed. But luckily leaving the date and publisher's name. No other pages have this damage. Other issues are scuffing and wear to the covers and spines. A one inch break in the cover material ... moreat the top edge of the front cover, light browning to page edges and some light stains and foxing to pages.The binding is tight though the front cover has started to pull away. This is a 990 page volume. 7" x 10 1/2" with many detailed black and white illustrations throughout. If anyone would like more photos with better detail. Messages and Papers of the Presidents, leather bound 16 of 20 books, gilt edges
These leather bound books were published by the Bureau of National Literature by an act of the 52nd Congress. Which dates them to the late 1800s. They have gilt edges. Most show wear consistent with age. There is a name. George Simpson, written in several. I see no other marks. Photos should show issues some have with the spine. Binds seem tight in most editions. Missing are volumes 7. 8, 11, and 17. There is a water mark line that runs across the top of pages in most of the books. I have taken several example photos. Volume 5 has water damage. It is probably the book that is in the roughest shape. The spine of the last volume. 20, which is also the index shows the most damage. The covers of these two particular volumes are in the last photo. Most books are probably fair to good. Media mail shipping is free in the lower 48.
