Antique Leather & Gilt German Evangelical Synod Hymn Prayer Book 1895 Copyright
465 pp. with a 98 page addendum at rear in a 6" by 4" hardcover format. There is a cover flaw at lower left front. And a slight tear at the top of the spine. The only copyright is 1895. The name Stella Bohnemeier is in gilt over 1921 on the cover. It was a gift to a rare book collector and is inscribed on inside cover page. Otherwise very clean and well stored. Inside pages show little yellowing, good quality paper, spine and binding.

Available for your consideration is a Rare and Beautiful Leather Bound Antique 1881 Catholic Prayer and Devotion Book"Treasury Of The Sacred Heart" I have purchased and sold many antique religious books over the years. But I have never come accross one of these before. A check of eBay. And the rest of the Internet, find no others of this quality. There are a few around that have 1/4 of the number of pages as this one. And are done in plain black leather wrap covers, but I think you will have to look long and hard to find another of this quality. This beautiful little religious book measures approximately 6" x 4 1/2" and is an impressive 2 1/4" deep. 707 pages! The tooled leather cover. And gold leaf page edges, makes it a wonderful complimentary piece to go with an antique Holy Bible. In the pictures you will see ... morethat there is even a tooled pattern on the gold page edges. How stunning! This book is in overall very good condition for the age. Although not heavily illustrated. There are some black and white illustrations(engravings? scattered here and there. I can not find a copyright date inside of it, but on the first blank page there is an inscription which reads"Presented to Meary Sullivan By Her Mother Dec. 25 1881. On the last blank page of the book there are hand written notes of the Sullivan Family history. Specifically records of those who died in the 1890s. There are also some prayer cards and personal effects tucked into some of the pages. I purchased this stunning book from a local estate sale, along with a gorgeous Family Bible from the same period, that also belonged to the Sullivan Family, of Washington County New York.
