FANTASTIC. ORIGINAL CIRCA 1690 DOCUMENT FROM SUFFOLK COUNTY, MASSACHUSETTS. This extraordinary early document concerns the sale of property involving a number of parties including Ezekiel Woodward and his wife. Andrew Peterson, Edward Page, and Grace Graves. Date of sale was Nov. 17th, 1668, and transaction was officially entered in the records of Suffolk[County] in December, 1668. Although 1668 this is the latest date to appear in document, we suspect this"word for word.true copy" was penned slightly later(c.1690) In researching document we learned that Ezekiel Woodward's wife Ann was the daughter of William Beamsley(d.1658) of Boston. And the property deed pertains to was once owned by Beamsley. Specifically, the deed relates to the sale of a Boston house-lot by the heirs of William Beamsley. In addition to parties involved ... morein the transaction, other names appearing in document include Edward Tyng(c.1600-1681) whom the the town of Tyngsborough, Massachusetts is named after, Elisha Cooke[Both Elisha Cooke, Sr. 1637-1715) and Elisha Cooke, Jr. 1678-1737) were wealthy and influential Massachusetts politicians] and John Leverett, possibly the Harvard educated lawyer and politician who later became President of Harvard College. Boston is today the state capital and largest city in Massachusetts. It also serves as county seat of Suffolk County. Also the largest city in New England. Connecticut 1745/6 signed by Isaac Huntington(1688-1764) as Justice of peace he enforced the Norwich"Blue Laws" from 1742 to 1758. And encompassing such crimes as swearing. 1850 DEED DOCUMENT NEW HAMPSHIRE TIMBER TRACT LAND WHEELER
A hand written 11/2 page document for the cutting of timber on tract of land owned by Benjamin Wheeler of Hollis in the county of Hillerborough. State of New Hampshire. This document states the amount of $415.00 to be paid, from the cutting of this wood timber and branches to Benjamin Wheeler. This document gives permission to Amos Hardy& Edward Hardy both from Hollis, NH to go on his land- cut timber& clean up branches from February 7th, 1850 to February 7, 1851. Mr Wheeler goes into detail regarding location of trees and cutting of all kind of. This document is written in ink, good legal type paper(unlined) stored folded, clean, fairly easy to read, no tears that I notice, no foxing not brittle, seal on paper by his signature, witnessed by Benjamin Farley. Fine Rare 1744 NEW YORK LAND DEED MANUSCRIPT w/ 3 PROMINENT COLONIAL MEN SIGNED
I am listing a variety of nice Antique and Vintage Items this week. Including some nice Old Book and Ephemera Items. Here is a Wonderful JUNE 15. 1744 COLONIAL NEW YORK LAND INDENTURE MANUSCRIPT DEED concerning a transaction between JAMES ALEXANDER AND BENJAMIN HAINES FOR LAND IN ULSTER COUNTY ALONG THE"PALTZ RIVER" now the"Wallkill? River) Handsome and historical deed is 16-1/4" x 13" I believe this may be the noted New York lawyer and statesman JAMES ALEXANDER(1691-1756) It is SIGNED BY JAMES ALEXANDER with seal next to name and WITNESS SIGNED BY WILLIAM LIVINGSTON and ELISHA PARKER on the front side of deed. It's quite possible that this is WILLIAM LIVINGSTON(1723-1790) who became Gov. of New Jersey during the Revolutionary War and Signer of the U.S. Constitution. I say that because William Livingston was a ... morelaw clerk for James Alexander in the early 1740's when this deed was written. He would have been a young man of 21 at this time. So might be an early signature by him. However, I am uncertain of the identity of these men myself- see view all photos for your own evaluation. In addition, there is an interesting manuscript addendum statement written on the backside concerning the boundary markers of the property which is SIGNED BY CADWALLADER COLDEN JR. 1722-1797) who is mentioned as"one of the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas for the County of Ulster" in the statement and is mentioned as well in the deed on front as the one who surveyed the property boundaries in 1742. Cadwallader Colden Jr. was the son of Cadwallader Colden Sr.1668-1776) the noted Colonial New York statesman and scientist. A year before this land document was written. Cadwallader Colden Sr. and James Alexander joined Benjamin Franklin and others in founding the"American Philosophical Society" There is another signature on the back which I cannot make out.
