7 Handwritten Diaries Quindaro Kansas City KS Baby's Death, Attempted Suicide
I want to start off by saying that on a weekly basis I get questions from bidders asking if I split up family lots of diaries and sell them separately. So I thought I’d post something to ease everyone’s mind before they buy. I am very passionate about diary collecting and history and I can’t even imagine buying a diary lot from one particular family and then splitting them up and selling each separately. Its heart wrenching when I see this happening and you have my promise that if I have more then one diary. No matter how many I have, I will always sell family lots together in one auction. But I think it’s a good question you should always ask your sellers just in case you want to try and keep a lot together. And with that said… There are 7 very full handwritten diaries up for auction today. They date 1966. 1967, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1972, and ... more1975. I don’t have time to read these diaries but did scan several pages to give you a little better idea of the contents. Plus in the back of several of the diaries is a long summary of each year and I thought if I could quote those it might help to see what they are all about. One of the diaries has a name on the front page that says“G. V. Bradley” but I’m not quite sure if that is our author. Plus in one of the summaries she writes she mentions the town of Quindaro as if it were her home town. I found out that Quindaro is in Kansas and is a very historical site. Look up Quindaro Ruins and you’ll find some incredible history about how the old town from 1856 was found in an archaeological study in 1987 and the public project revealed the remains of the 1850’s townsite. The foundations of 20 main buildings. Two outbuildings, three wells and one cistern were found. Following is a little more information on the history behind Quindaro… The town of Quindaro. In what is now Kansas City. Kansas was founded in 1856 as a port of entry for free soil immigrants into Kansas. The principal founder was Abelard Guthrie. Who named the town for his Wyandot Indian wife, Nancy Quindar
RARE 1910 HANDWRITTEN DIARY Kansas City Missouri/Louisville Kentucky History
1910 HANDWRITTEN DIARY- It's been a while since I've read a diary that held my interest as this one did, I found myself not wanting to put it down! Not only does it have amazing entries, but it is from Missouri and she also travels to Kentucky to stay with family, and diaries from both of these States are exceptionally tough to find! This INCREDIBLE SPECTACULAR 105 YEAR OLD handwritten antique diary/ journal/ manuscript book was written by a woman whose name was VIRGINIA CROMWELL ROBERTSON who was born on July 13. 1827 in Ohio, and died on Nov. 24, 1916. A picture of her gravestone can be seen on the find-a-grave website. She married Richard Robertson. Who was a Steamboat Captain. He was born in 1819 and was 8 years older than Virginia. Which was quite unusual for those days! A 1860 census shows they were living in Newport. Campbell ... moreCounty, Kentucky where her husband was employed as a"Riverman" They had a 13 year old domestic servant named"Lena Able" A 1880 Census shows the family living in Kaw. Jackson County, Missourri and Virginia's husband was employed as a Steamboat Captain. They had a very large family of 7 children: Richard ~ Minnie ~ Grace ~ Nannie ~ Ernest ~ Howard ~ Guy ~ Lillian, and a servant named James Sheck. Their daughter Lillian was visiting abroad in Europe. When Virginia wrote this diary in 1910 she was widowed. Her husband died in 1900. She was living with her daughter. Grace, in Kansas Ward 12, Jackson County, Missouri. This is verified by 1910 Census records. I will include a copies of the Census records to the winning bidder. This diary is JUST AMAZING! The entries are very detailed and give such a wonderful look into her life! She loves music and writes of attending Operas and concerts. She writes of traveling to Louisville Kentucky to visit and stay with family and visits with many friends. She tells how traveling for 2 days by train between Kentucky& Missouri was very hot and dusty. And of Mr Bryan(who was a Presidential candidate) was making speeches
TWO HANDWRITTEN DIARIES VIRGINIA ROBERTSON 1905 & 1911/KANSAS CITY MO/FULL!
These two diaries were written by Virginia Robertson who lived in Kansas City Mo.They represent the years 1905.And 1911.Both diaries are completely full of entries.I haven't had much time for reading lately and I have not read these,so I can't tell you much about them, but from glancing through I saw entries about her family, friends, deaths, and illnesses, sewing, something about there being no"girl" in sight yet.I'm assuming she is taking about a. hired girl to cook and clean.I saw where she was having trouble with her eyes, and about the death of someone named Lizzie Coghill and her baby.I also believe she lives with one of her children and their family.Im sure there is some interesting reading in these, and I will leave that to the winning bidder to discover. The diaries measure about 4" x 2 1/2"and are in good ... moreto fair condition. The 1905 diary's outer leather cover is dry and a bit flaky on the front, and the flap is a bit worn.Any questions please feel free to ask anytime and Thank you so much for looking!

1880 DODGE CITY KANSAS MARSHALL MAYOR SHERIFF HAMILTON BELL AUTOGRAPH WYATT EARP
1880s DODGE CITY KANSAS U.S. MARSHALL- MAYOR- SHERIFF- POLICE CHIEF HAMILTON B. BELL AUTOGRAPH FRIEND OF WYATT EARP 32 PAGES Hamilton Butler Bell. H.B. Ham) Bell. Deputy U.S. Marshal, Pioneer Sheriff, Mayor of Dodge City and Grand Old Man of the Southwest by George Laughead. Dodge City, KANSAS There is only one person I know about that both remembered the end of the Civil War and the end of WWII- and was a Dodge City pioneer and US Marshal in between. That is Hamilton B. Bell. Always known as Ham, who in his own words was the"longest living Old West Sheriff and Marshal. Ham Bell was 12-years old at the end of the Civil War and talked about the victory parades. He had his name on a WWII Army Air Corps plane. Giving a short speech as he placed his hand print on the plane in 1943. He never shot a man-and in his journal wrote about saving ... moresome cowboys from the"Earp gang"and he outlived all of his Western associates. Born in 1853. Bell arrived in Dodge City in 1874, and he lived in Ford County until his death in 1947. Ham was Mayor of Dodge City when my grandfather, George E. Laughead, decades younger, was on the Dodge City Commission in 1911. Ham arrived in Great Bend. KS first from Maryland and by 19 was working as a deputy there. Ham Bell hunted buffalo awhile, then got a position with a Santa Fe agent whose office was a box-car, worked there until his appointment as assistant marshal under Great Bend Marshal James Gainsford. Once, when someone said he would not shoot, that he was bluffing, Ham gained some fame of a sort by saying, as he looked the ruffian straight in the eye, A kid will shoot quicker than a man. One point about his gunplay or lack of it- a 1931 interview with Bell says the idea that he never drew a gun on a man when he was sheriff here in the early days is all wrong. He never shot a man. Ham said, and that was mainly because he was always careful to draw his gun in plenty of time before the other man drew his. If I'd never drawn a gun, he said, I wouldn't have lived a week.
