The item for bid is a complete 10-volume set of vintage books. This set is called"The Book Of Popular Science" and was published in 1954 by The Grolier Society. This is an encyclopedia-style set of 10 volumes(including an index) that was first copyrighted in 1924. Excellent black and white photos and illustrations! A great look back at mid-twentieth-century American science texts- very interesting and VERY fun to browse through! All the books are in pretty good condition. No rips or tears that we could find. Obviously we didn't look at every single page of this 4,270-page set! But we did examine each book carefully and all the pages, covers, and binding appear to be sound with the usual yellowing and signs of wear one would expect on a set of books that is 60 years old! Offered for sale is this wonderful 14 volume set of Charles Dickens works published in 1885 by Belford. Clarke& Co. out of New York in good overall condition. They all have 1885 title page dates. The titles are as follows: DAVID COPPERFIELD, Martin Chuzzlewit, CHRISTMAS STORIES AND GREAT EXPECTATIONS, Barnaby Rudge and Hard Times, NICHOLAS NICKLEBY, Pickwick Papers, PICTURES FROM ITALY AND AMERICAN NOTES/EDWIN DROOD, Bleak House, CHRISTMAS BOOKS AND UNCOMMERCIAL TRAVELLER, Oliver Twist/ Child's History of England, DOMBEY AND SON, Little Dorrit, OUR MUTUAL FRIEND, and lastly, Sketches By Boz and Tale of Two Cities. They have just enough wear on them that gives them a great antique look! The Cloth Hardcovers and spines all have wear on the edges, some a little more than others, and there is an occasional small partial tear on some pages ... morethat just reminds everyone that this is an old book set. Some have loose hinges but all are still holding together. The pages have some foxing and yellowing but less than one would expect from the age, and the pages remain pliable and very readable. The books measure about 8" by 6" The set is very well illustrated and would make a fine addition to any collection. The green covers with the gilded lettering has a great look to it. There are a couple of light scratches on the color paste on on 3 volumes. a tiny bit of wear or just loss of color on the edges of the paste on of a few volumes. There is no wear on corners or edges of the books. But some light rubbing on a few. In a few small spots there is a slight loss of the black color. Page edges are age toned. What a great piece of history to own, we could spend hours looking at all of the pictures and reading their descriptions. The book measures approx. 11 1/4" x 9 1/3" x 2 1/3" and we are calling it shabby chic due to a few missing pages. Multiple bends and tears on the edges, doodles in the front of the book. Classics Club 42 volumes Books Walter J. Black 1932-1951 HC book set NICE
set_id=880000500F" Hi! Up for auction is a collection of 37 first editions of Walter J. Blacks"Classics Club" dated between 1932 and 1951(several were not dated) Looking at all the bindings. I noticed no water damage, no odd smells and for the pages I reviewed, no writing. The colors of the binding cloths are all consistent and bright, with the only issue being some dust bunnies along the tops of the books and the pages are slightly off-white from age. I have tried to provide high resolution photos. The corner edges do have the expected handling bumps here and there but I saw nothing I'd call damage, especially for a set of book being 60 years old. There is one book that has some liquid? or cleaner damage on the cover as shown. There are maybe 2-3 that have some damage to the pages from something probably being dropped ... moreon it or vice versa.
