This auction is for a beautiful antique book titled. The House We Live In or The Making of the Body. This book was written by Vesta J. Farnsworth published in the year 1900 by Pacific Press Publishing Association in Mountain View, California. This copy is in good antique condition, with only minimal damages due to age. These damages include slight wear along the edges of the binding(although not terribly bad) and the paper has yellowed. And one issue from March 10, 1900. These are 14 3/4 inches by 11 inches. These have minor wear and staining do to being over a hundred years old. See pictures for more detail. Elwell as person to contact in case of accident or serious illness. Sounds like he was a child of maybe 10 or 11. Listed as 4' 11" and 74 lbs. Diary has an entry for every day in 1900. Also includes memoranda with recipes, list of Christmas presents and other info. It lists Christmas presents from 1899, so I am guessing this may have been a present as well. Also has cash account info with cash on hand and monies spent on various items such as soda water, fudge, hot soda, postage, etc. Upon some research I think this may be the diary of the youngest of the Elwell family in which Bloomsburg University has a building(Elwell Hall) named after. ... moreOn the Bloomsburg University page I found this: Elwell Residence Hall. Completed in 1968, is a nine-story facility that houses 700 men and women. The 149,578-square-foot building is named for three generations of the Elwell family, the younger two of whom graduated from Bloomsburg and later returned to teach. Judge William Elwell served as trustee from 1868 to 1887 and president of the governing board for several years. His son, George E. Elwell, was one of the first graduates of the institution and succeeded his father on the Council of Trustees in 1887, continuing until 1906. George's son, G. There was a Henry H Cooper that was mayor of Jamestown NY in 1899. There are several pages noting the Empire Chemical Heating Company. They have a 1900 title page date along with an 1897 copyright page date. Volume one has a really attractive bookplate under the front cover from the Distributor that reads, Special allotment for Carthage N.Y. MESSAGES& PAPERS OF THE PRESIDENTS This is copy No, 4 SUBSCRIBED FOR BY John N. Koburn Committee on Distribution W. F. Hallan General Secretary" The original paper titled"NOTICE HOW TO OPEN A BOOK" that came with the books is also included. The books have decorative marble end pages and one quarter leather hardcovers with gilded lettering and designs on the spines making this set a rather attractive one that would look great ... moreon on any bookcase! The volumes are well illustrated with beautiful engravings of the Presidents. The pages are very tight to the spines and have light yellowing and light foxing. The leather hardcovers have wear on the edges with light scuffing as to be expected. The leather on the spines is dry and"flaking" as is often the case with books of this age. Some of the volumes have partial splits on the spine seam of the hardcovers, but all still have good hinges and open and close just fine. The gilded lettering and designs on the spines has wear and fading giving this set a great"antique" look! The books measure about 10" by 7" and average about 550 pages per volume. This set was published by the AUTHORITY OF CONGRESS as seen on the title page. The top of the pages on each volume have gold edges. I purchased this set at an estate auction in the Finger Lakes Region of NY State several years ago and they have been in my collection ever since. You are bidding on an antique. Collectible 1900 Second Edition of Fireside Legends, which bills itself as"Incidents, Anecdotes, Reminiscences, Etc. Connected with the Early History of Fitchburg, Massachusetts and Vicinity" by William A. Emerson, and the reason I have this unusual book in my possession is that my ancestor is Richard Leonard who is portrayed in the last photograph. He patented a particular type of mowing machine, the patent for which I still have, and that is mentioned in the caption under his name. This wonderful book is chock full of beautiful black and white illustrations of Fitchburg and its surroundings, and I'm sure many of the structures portrayed are no longer in existence. The book, which measures a bit of 6 inches by a bit over 9 inches by 1 inch thick, is in fairly good condition although the spine ... moreis weak and has pulled away some as you can see in the photo. There is modest wear consistent with age, modest foxing of the pages, but the pages are intact and this book would be a wonderful reference for someone residing in Fitchburg at present. We have for your viewing and bidding pleasure 10 matching antique hardback bound books. They are by the well known author O. HENRY. The books are covered in a green linen like textured material. On the binding edge they have a label with a black background with the name of the author. Title, AUTHORIZED EDITION in gold lettering. All the books have a publishing date of 1918 by DOUBLEDAY, PAGE& COMPANY. The first 2 books we are describing both have a frontispiece of the author O HENRY. The ROLLING STONES title book has a copyright date of 1911, 1912 by the publishing company. The book titled OPTIONS has a copyright date of 1909 by HARPER& BROTHERS. ROADS OF DESTINY has copyright dates of 1903 through 1909 with the latter by DOUBLEDAY, PAGE& COMPANY. SIXES AND SEVENS is copyright 1911 by the previous publishing company. THE FOUR ... moreMILLION is copyright 1906 by DOUBLEDAY, PAGE& COMPANY. The next book is titled THE TRIMMED LAMP. It is copyright 1907 by McClure, Phillips& Co. The VOICE OF THE CITY is copyright 1908 by DOUBLEDAY, PAGE& COMPANY. THE GENTLE GRAFTER is copyright 1908 by the McClure Company. On the first inner page they have a blue library stamp. Some of the books on the front inner hardback cover have the name and date in fountain pen ink from a former owner. On the back inner hardback cover the majority of the books have a library card. The covers on the books are also in great condition with just the front corners showing a slight bit of wear. This vintage hardcover book is undated; it was published by M.A. Donahue& Company in the early 1900's. This is a rare 38 page. There are illustrations for each letter of the alphabet and 10 short stories. The book is in good condition. There is a child's name inscribed on each inside cover.
