Old Antique 1880? HB, Popular Chatterbox Packet, J. Erskine Clark, Illustrated
Here's an interesting old or antique book for children or young people of the 1880's period entitled"Popular Chatterbox Packet" The author or editor of this series of popular books of the time was J. Erskine Clark. This one has the date 1880 on the table of contents page and there is a sentiment on one of the blank pages indicating the book was originally presented as a gift in December of 1882. The book has 400+ pages including over 50 engraved full page illustrations that we can only show a small sample of. There are many other illustrations within the book to help along the stories. Poems and other content for children though they are not numbered like the full page ones. We did not see any color plates in the book for those who might ask. The book is about 7.25 by 9.75 inches in face dimension. The front cover has signs ... moreof use and is very weak at the hinge. The top at the top of the cover over the binding the material is loose and curled up as shown in a picture. The pages are nice, slightly darkened with age and the binding appears to be holding the pages well. The pages are a little ruffled at the outside edges as the pages are not strictly uniform in shape so some have slightly extended edges subject to ruffling. The content looks very interesting with an intent to engage the mind of young people while also advancing their education, morality, etc. as one would expect. Apparently these Chatterbox books were very popular and published well into the 20th century. That's about it. The pictures should be helpful to those having interest. We'll start this 1880 Chatterbox volume low so enjoy the auction. When packed this will weigh about 2.75 lbs so we'll use USPS Media Mail as the lowest cost postal alternative to the buyer. This is an antique set of 20 Eminent Authors and Poets Steel Plate Portraits with facsimile autographs. The cards are 5x7 and are all intact and still bound by the original ribbon binding. All cards were not photographed due to a 12 photo eBay regulation. The front top half of the leather casing has broken away as can be seen in the 2nd photo and there has been some prior taping of a corner area of the front flap(seen in 1st photo) Each card is in wonderful condition and free of folds. Here's beautiful Bible published by S.L. Marrow in Indianapolis. I believe it was printed in the 1880's. I can't find any date. There is a written entry from 1886. With over 1000 pages the Bible has hundreds of steel and wood prints. It's 12.5" x 10' weighs in at 10 Lbs. The leather cover is fair and intact, the pages and plates are in very good shape. It includes a Bible, Bible Dictionary, maps and plates of cities of the bible. I'm not an expert in this area, so please ask any questions you might have. Thanks for looking.

Offered for sale is this antique book titled HEROES OF THREE WARS written by Captain Willard Glazier and published by Hubbard Brothers Publishers out of Philadelphia in 1880. The book is about 3 American Wars. The Revolutionary War, The War with Mexico, and the War for the Union or the Civil War and has great illustrations done in black and white. The title page has an 1880 date and the copyright page is showing a 1878 date. The book measures about 7 3/4" by 5 1/2" and has 450 pages. There are some condition issues as the spine is separating and the hinges are worn and loosening although still holding on. There are some loose pages that I pictured in the photos. The covers have wear on the edges giving it a real"old" look. The pages are still very pliable and readable having light yellowing and light foxing. Twain's silly adventures and pithy comments about Europeans here in 631 pages with the last page ad for Innocents Abroad(torn) Titian's Moses is an engraving found just before the title page by listed artist by Stephane Pannemaker just across from an engraving of Mark Twain by J.A.J. Wilcox of Boston separated by a tissue guard. We are calling it shabby chic due to the spine falling off. Foxing& a few water spots on some of the pages which all commensurate with the age of this book. It is copyright 1880. The book has chapters on Hindoo, ancient Egyptian, Biblical and Hebrew, public games of Greece, Greek theatre and chorus, music of the Roman Empire, history of Chinese music, music of Japan, African music, and more. There are 363 pages. The book measures about 7 3/4" by 5 1/8" The pages have a gold gilt top edge. The covers have some wear and small tears to the edges and corners. ANTIQUE HANDWRITTEN LEDGER This old ledger was found at a Santa Maria. CA estate sale. It has 190+ pages full of handwritten entries. It appears to be a combination of a ledger for a store, hotel, farm, and household expenses. There is a lot of mention of Napa Valley and Nipomo, CA. I believe the owner of this book had a farm(grew apricots, blueberries, and peaches. and had boarders who also ate at their home. there are lists of people who stayed and how many nights and number of meals. The first date I see is 1880. Inside the cover. It is signed W.H. Grigsby, Nipomo. Jan. 1894 S.L.O. Co. California. The next page is signed Will Grigsby"For the year of 1880 Day Book" and"William H. Grigsby, Napa, Calif. Napa Soda Springs" The next page apeears to be a list of names with page number(presumably a contents index to certain ... moreaccounts) The last date I see is 1916. Some other clues to owner: Moved to Soda Canon Road(Napa) Nov. 1887.to SLO June 10. 1891.Nipomo Dec. 14, 1891. Some Nipomo names that I see as boarders and expenses: Will Dana. Dave Castro, Joe Dominguez. Some accounts listed(Napa? McClelland& Co. John Sandercock, the Bank of Napa, Whitman, Cain& Mitchell(S.F. 1886) W.E. Tufts, R.H. Barkway, A.D. Porter, Gimmel& Co. J. Garvin, Moody(Napa City) It looks like in the early 1900s- there are a lot of farming expenses mentioned. Mostly regarding growing apricots, peaches and blackberries. There is a page called"China Labor" and it details how many men they hired each day and their pay. There are also many pages with farm expenses and household expenses. Book is in worn condition.
