Though responsible for the initial ... morerise of Napoleon to greatness, was deeply resentful of him at the end of his life and had the manuscript of his memoirs taken to a friend's house at the time of his death as they contained many papers that were not politically correct for the government of the time. It is therefore interesting that this autobiography was actually published many decades after his death. The details are described in a New York Times article dated 1895.
