With titles to spines in gilt. With 264 lovely full-page color plates and 35 duotones throughout the text. SURPRISINGLY SCARCE: We locate only 3 sets of the first printing. And 3 sets of the second printing listed by dealers! Every entry is described in great detail; its Latin generic name. Common name. Where to look for it, and what its geographical range is. A classic reference! CONDITION VG as stated above: bindings show a bit of flexibility. Common to large formats like this; inner joints intact with no splits. Foxing ... moreshows to the prelims and rear blanks; texts show NO foxing or edge-toning. Plates are bright, paper stock is glossy. Covers are fairly clean, showing minimal nits& scuffs. The tips have been bumped(again, common on large books) and show rubbing ALMOST to the cardboard. The spines are gratifyingly unsunned, but we do see wear and tiny splits to the extremes. EX-LIB. But we get off lucky: aside from the two labels to the inside covers. Only traces of the sticker& pocket to the rear endpapers. NO painted numbers on the spines; NO penned codes to the title pages or versos, NO stamped library marks on the outer edges of the textblocks.whew!
