Vintage Life Of Robert Leighton's Works Vol 1 & 2 1828
The Whole Works of the Most Reverend Father in God Robert Leighton. DD Archbishop of Glasgow is a first edition 2 vol set. The books were printed in 1828 in London by William Crows. The books are in nice condition with some separation starting on both books covers. They are intact but not as strong as when printed. The covers are rubbed and they show shelf wear. The pages have some foxing but the pages are very solid and bright. There are no illustrations other than Leighton's portrait on the opening page. Volume one has 703 pages and vol 2 has 572 pages. In Volume one the last 2 pages plus the rear blank page is lose but still in the book. The books measure 5 1/4 by 8 1/2 inches. They both have marble page edges on all 3 sides. Bizarre Antique/ Vintage OWL Figure 2 1/4" Sea Shells& Wood Very Unusual Part of my huge owl collection- 45 years spent at auctions& flea markets- one of the strangest. Just 2 1/4" tall. Including the base which is a slice of a tree or branch. The owl himself is formed by 2 sea shells, eyes painted on. He stands on another piece of wood. Seems to have a nautical theme. Next to him is another piece of wood, like the pilings on a dock, and this piece is connected to the one on which the owl stands by a string threaded through what seem to be nuts, but which I guess are to represent buoys. I do hope my pictures do a better job of describing it than I can do with words. It is certainly quite old, and is stamped JAPAN twice on the bottom. These photos are vintage if not antique. This is the mosaic of Minerva by Elihi Vedder; the'Minerva of Peace' It is in the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Smithsonian. Which houses the Library of Congress. The pictures with the columns visable has a tear on the right side 1 1/2 inches long(see last photo) Some of the corners have small ears and there is a little damage around the borders but minor I think.
