Formerly of Saranac Lake. NY and later located in Plattsburgh. NY. But I can not say for sure. The name printed inside is Leonard A Lewis From what I am able to tell. It looks like an account of personal household expenses as well as farm and business expenses. Records are kept with prices for an assorment of sundries and bills. As well as the sale of hale. Oats, potatoes and other crops, and records of labor expenses and wages(10 cents an hour! The first book(the tall one) appears to have records from 1893- 1919, and the second book looks to cover the period from 1920- ... more1924. New York" The hefty set was published in Hartford. Connecticut. In 1884 by Ralph H. Park& Co. which is listed as the copyright owner on the page following the title page of each volume; the copyright dates are 1882 for the first volume and 1883 for the second volume(both have 1884 printed on the title page) The gilt- and brown-leather- and cloth-bound books. Each of which measures 7-1/2 inches wide by 10-1/2 inches high(18.5 x 27.5 cm) are a complete guide for the American farmer, with information on agricultural, animal, ... morearchitectural, and practical household subjects- there's even a 11-page section on the prevention of cruelty to animals in the second volume. Volume I has 851 numbered pages, volume II 1034 pages, both including indexes at the back, and each volume has some 20 pages of roman-numeral-paginated front matter. Tabernacle Hymns No. 2 is an antique hardback book printed in 1940. It appears to be a first edition. But I'm not sure about that. That is the only date in it. It was published by Tabernacle Publishing Company in Chicago, Illinois. It contains 351 hymns. All pages are intact, none are loose, but pages are yellowed from age. Names are written in pen on the inside front covere and first blank page of previous owners. The binding seems to be intact but has some spots and wrinkles on it and is frayed a little at the bottom and top edges. Overall, the book is in relatively good shape for it's age.

Second Grade Language Gelsten Activity Units Published by Ge-Sten Supply Company. Inc in 1941. This was printed in duplicating ink. This book looks like new. American Childhood The Magazine of Child Education in School and Home June 1956. The bottom and top edges are showing a little wear. There are two Monthly Activity Units by the Continental Press in 1948. February and March. February is in great shape. March the cover has a few rips on the cover. This is a set of very old 1885 books of the personal memoirs of U.S. Grant. It was during the civil war. The books have a cloth covering. The bindings are starting to come loose. The edges and corners of the covers are pretty worn. But all the pages seem to be in both books and the tissue paper covering the photos are still there. They are still in decent shape for their age. Bizarre Antique/ Vintage OWL Figure 2 1/4" Sea Shells& Wood Very Unusual Part of my huge owl collection- 45 years spent at auctions& flea markets- one of the strangest. Just 2 1/4" tall. Including the base which is a slice of a tree or branch. The owl himself is formed by 2 sea shells, eyes painted on. He stands on another piece of wood. Seems to have a nautical theme. Next to him is another piece of wood, like the pilings on a dock, and this piece is connected to the one on which the owl stands by a string threaded through what seem to be nuts, but which I guess are to represent buoys. I do hope my pictures do a better job of describing it than I can do with words. It is certainly quite old, and is stamped JAPAN twice on the bottom. The Compilation of the Messages and Papers of the Presidents"Background info only" The Compilation of the Messages and Papers of the Presidents is an eleven-volume series of tomes comprising proclamations. Special messages, and inauguration speeches from several presidents throughout United States history. There are ten numbered volumes each covering a set of presidents between the years of 1787 and 1902 and an eleventh index volume. It was copyrighted in 1897, by James D. Richardson, a representative from the state of Tennessee, and was published in 1911, by the Bureau of National Literature and Art. There is also a supplement version that covers individual presidents in depth and was published, also by the Bureau of National Literature, but in 1917. A typical volume has the Seal of the President emblazoned in the front and the ... moreback. The original first edition was printed in 1899 by the Government Printing office in Washington DC. Only 6,000 copies were printed and presented to members of the congress and senate for reference. Two thousand for the use of the senate and four thousand for the use of Congress. 1911 was the third printing and contained 20 volumes. There was no volume eleven in the first printing. The index is contained in the volume ten. These volumes are brown and have no seal. The Compilation of the Messages and Papers of the Presidents Volume II 1817- 1833 Volume Two covers the presidential terms of James Monroe. John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson, and a little of Martin Van Buren. The Treasury Department at Washington, D.C. is illustrated as the frontispiece and includes the portraits of John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson, and Martin Van Buren.

This is an Antique"The Teacher's Helper Vol II" book from November 1895 that was copyrighted in 1887. It was written by Harriet D. Castle for School Entertainments covering recitations. Dialogues, concert excercises, drills, etc. It was part of a $2.00 per year subscription service for teachers and was published by A. Flanagan in Chicago. The paper covering of the binding is half gone, the back cover has some tears but is in tact, and the front cover has torn loose. Otherwise this is a very rare and unique find with some very interesting stuff inside considering it is 119 years old. It is a soft bound 213 page book that measures 7.5" tall by 5" wide. This antique set of books was published in 1846. By the author, Daniel J. Cobb, Botanic Physician in Castile, NY. They are titled The Medical Botanist and Expositor of Diseases and Remedies and The Mother's Guide. The Medical Botanist contains descriptions of medical plants, recipes, and diseases with reference to remedies, as well as remarks as to healthier living. The Mother's Guide contains an abrigded system of midwifery and descriptions of diseases and remedies peculiar to females. The Medical Botanist is leather bound, but the torn on the back. It has writing, stains, water damage, and browning of the pages on the inside, but is very readable. The companion guide is hard bound and appears in better condition. However it too has some spots and browning of the pages.

The long skinny DAY ledger is dated 1919 and is 80 percent filled with hand written figures and names of many local people for either purchases or sales. The black ledger is dated 1930 and has entries in the front and very back section with a few entries in between, but it isn't nearly as full as the thin ledger. The value is in historic records of a Kentucky farm. MANY family names listed. This book is a very old turn of century book- there are names written in it- a note to teacher from her brother about having her eyes checked- besides the marks- 1st page in book has been torn. Up for is an antique magazine The Smart Set. This was an upscale magazine published monthly by Ess Ess Publishing Company. New York and was called A Magazine of Cleverness This issue was published June 1901. The magazine is in decent shape for being 114 years old. The binding is starting to go and the cover is frayed on the edges. The magazine is in a plastic magazine sleeve and will remain in the sleeve for its own protection.
