Bliss(1838-76) was an American composer. Music teacher, writer of many well known hymns and Gospel songs. You can find more information on him by doing a internet search. This book was written a year after his death— and is the first, original edition hard back cover(cloth bound with gold leaf stamping) and 367 pages. Spine is in good shape, showing some minimal wear for its age. Cover measures 8 1/2" X 6” and pages are all firmly attached to the spine… a bit of age toning is evident. Very readable, no tears or creasing and noted only two or three light penciling notes, and is in FAIR to GOOD condition(really in fine shape for its age. 138 years! Great volume to add to any ... morecollection! The book has a detailed Table of Contents. Pictures of P. P. Bliss and his family. With Introductions by both Whittle and Moody. It is a volume to be treasured— especially by those who work in church music and/or love hymns and Gospel songs. Bliss was one of the better known men in the field. But tragically died at the early age of 38, in a disastrous railway accident near Ashtabula, Ohio in December 1876. Bliss had conducted evangelistic meetings on his own and in association with D. L. Moody and others. He also collaborated with other top hymnwriters. Including James McGranahan, and did early recordings with the new recording system of Thomas A. Edison.
