Each place setting had its own salt cellar with a little bit of salt in the bowl that could be pinched and added to the food by the diner. They are hand-painted with delicate rose flowers. With yellow centers, green leaves, and gold trim. The detail is incredible and my camera does not capture how delicate fine the painting is. Please be sure to zoom in on the photos. Each has 3 toes(feet) that are in perfect shape and each toe is even highlighted in fine gold paint. There are no maker's mark on them so it's hard to tell exactly how old they are or where they came from for sure. But they did come from a family of German heritage. Antique Hand Painted Bavarian Salt and Pepper, 1880's RARE colors
You are bidding on a gorgeous set of Bavarian salt and pepper shakers that are hand painted and signed. I bought them at an estate sale where the woman only bought antiques from the decade of the 1880's. Several items that I have had looked at by experts have actually dated some things into the 1870's. These are very unique in that they are yellow and brown. Most Bavarian items that you see are the pinks and blues. So few in the earth tones. What an opportunity! They have gold gilding on the top of the shakers and it is intact everywhere except a small spot on what I figure out was the salt shaker. You can only see it by turning it upside down. This listing is for a Porcelain Squat Ribbed Melon shaped Salt and Pepper Shaker Set. The shape is often referred to as muffineer or sugar shakers. The set is hand painted with pink roses surrounded with green leaves. Between each rib is a purple violet with gold dots trailing below. The top is trimmed in gold and blue. The Squat Melon design was extremely popular in the early part of the 20th Century and likely date to that period. There are no maker marks on the piece. The porcelain is a cream with a white glaze. This is a beautiful hand painted and signed three piece Salt. Pepper and Toothpick holder made in Japan. It's one of the prettiest sets I've ever seen! The three pieces are done in"Card" shapes, with a diamond for the lidded toothpick holder, a heart for the salt, and a spade for the pepper! They are all made of a fine white porcelain, with hand painted violet flowers and gold trim around the top edges. So pretty! The toothpick holder features a removeable lid, and the salt and pepper still have the original cork stoppers in the bottom. They each stand about two inches in height, and are around an inch in width. The toothpick holder and salt have a small"made in Japan" sticker; and the pepper is actually signed in red on the bottom by the artist who painted this beautiful set! They are all in wonderful vintage ... morecondition, with no chips or cracks that I've found. There is a small area on top of the pepper that feels slightly rough to the touch, and a tiny indentation in the gold on the opposite side of the same piece, although this still has the gold trim in it so I believe it was there when the piece was painted!
