Vintage '40s Iridescent Lusterware Salt/Peppers, Art Deco Style, Made in Japan
This lovely pair of shakers dates to the 1930s or early'40s and are classic Art Deco shape. They measure 3" tall x 1 1/2" wide. They are porcelain with a metallic glaze that gives the appearance of iridescence. A technique that produces what is called Lusterware. The bottoms are marked Made in Japan. The color is a pale tangerine orange or gold with a light blue top. They are in perfect condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or blemishes. They have cork stoppers, and as you can see in the last photo, the shaker on the right has had paper added around the cork, no doubt for a secure fit. We didn't try to pull it out. Who knows? There may be something exciting written on that paper. I clearly remember an identical pair from my early childhood in the 1940s, which always graced my Grandmother's dining table. Both have googly like eyes& both are strumming along on their butter yellow banjoes. Both have 7 pour holes. Last photo. Incised on each one on their bottom side porcelain is their model numbers"4389" Germany. Photos 6& 7. They are both stamped on the bottom"Germany.Photo 8. I have washed both& placed new cork stoppers in them. There is very little paint wear on these banjo playing Art Deco bunnies& with the exception of a tiny paint chip off one of the pour holes. Stouffer China handpainted signed Regina salt & pepper shakers art deco floral
This pretty porcelain pair dates from the early to mid 20th century. And were from the old Stouffer China of Chicago, according to the maker stamp on the bottom. Each is white with gold accents and a floral pattern hand painted and signed by Regina. Each is about 4 1/2 inches tall. They are in great shape for vintage. One was apparently chipped on its base at some point and repaired with glue. One has its cork. One does not. Vintage Stone Ware Salt N Peper Shaker Set Multi-Color Art Deco Japan
2 3/4 inches tall x 1 3/4 inches wide. Very cute little set. 1970s era and in really good condition. They have a little discoloration and the thick clear coat has cracked against the stone ware on the underside. The outside is still nice and smooth so it not a for real type cracking.
