The base measures approx. 5" x 4 3/4" with drilled mounting holes that measure 3 5/8" and 4" center to center. The wheels move freely and are covered in surface rust. I have left them exactly as found not knowing if someone wants the aged patina. They need a good cleaning and grease. The only defect I can find is a small chip in one of the wheels.see the photo) I'm not sure if it's an old chip or defect in the casting. Two of the wheels appear as though the holes weren't drilled through after the casting. The wheels are the largest I've seen and with a weight of almost 11 lbs. each. ANTIQUE SALT CELLARS Fine Bone China LOT of 4 Hand Painted Violet Flowers Gold T
IMPORTANT: The photo of the single salt cellar shows one of the rose ones in order to demonstrate how delicate and translucent they are. I forgot to get a similar shot of the violet ones. But could add one if requested. These individual exquisite salt cellars are made of the finest bone china- they're almost translucent. Salt cellars were used in fancy homes before salt shakers. Each place setting had its own salt cellar with a little bit of salt in the bowl that could be pinched and added to the food by the diner. They are hand-painted with delicate blue flowers. Green leaves, and gold trim. The detail is incredible and my camera does not capture how delicate fine the painting is. Each has 3 toes(feet) that are in perfect shape and each toe is even highlighted in fine gold paint. There are no maker's mark on them so it's hard ... moreto tell exactly how old they are or where they came from for sure. But they did come from a family of German heritage. This set is quite old and has seen service and date to the early to mid-19th Century before shakers came into use. This is a is a salt and pepper 3 1/4" set of shakers. They are clear glass shakers impressed with a grape pattern. The tops are 2 pieces. Metal(I don't know what types) The outer metal is dark and aged thru the years, the inner circle is off white, no dents. Tops screw on and off smoothly. Nice sturdy shakers. Can hold a good amount of condiments. There is a clear manufacturers line on 1 side of 1 shaker. couldn't photograph) They were part of my grandmothers collection.
