For your consideration is a pair of 19th to 20th Century wood arches. I bought them at an auction about eight or ten years ago. The auction company's sticker is still on the arch pictured on the left. I do not know anything about them. But was thinking they may have come out of a church. I have no idea how old they are(except they look old to me) which is why I said 19th to 20th Century. They meaure approximately 98" tall, 42" wide, and 8" thick. Condition: This pair was originally purchased to make shelves out of them. Or construct a frame. Had I kept them, they would have been stained and looked really nice. Since I have changed my mind about keeping them, the new owner can make that decision. All I have done is a dry dust for the photographs. There is normal age wear. Each door is made of some type of hardwood, possibly birch, but I can't tell for certain until a good amount of the paint could be removed. Both doors have a beautiful arrangement of 8, true-divided, beveled glass lites. The doors were previously used as a"swinging doors. which meant that they had spring-loaded, pivot hinges installed in their bottom corners, and swung both ... moreforward and backward like a saloon style door. The doors no longer have their pivot hinges or push plates. However, just because they were used as a swinging doors, doesn't mean that you have to. We could cut off the rounded sides and trim the doors to 31" or 30"W, or we could cut and then add to the sides to widen to 32" or wider. We could also cut the height of the door to just above of the area where the hinge was installed(which would make each door 78 1/2" Or if you need the height or need it taller, we could plug the mortised area and even add to it. Look at the last photos of another door that we modified as an example. Condition: see photos) Each door has a break in its upper corner where the upper pivot hinge was installed. This barn door came straight off a barn built in the 1880's. The barn door has the rollers on the top and some damage from the years outside. The main door would have been cut and set, then this would have been placed in a recess. This is now a wall hanging with all the hardware on the back. Craftsmanship like this is just not as prevalent as it used to be. There are some ding and nicks here and there. There is one larger chip on the top closer to the rear that runs about half the length. What a great piece of history, that could be part of your story. They look like lead on one side and copper on the other. I found them down in Arizona about 20 years ago and all I remember is they said they came from a old hospital. Their are four colors. The red, white, dark grey and lighter grey that looks more brown on my computer. There is one v shaped crack in the side of the red H. They are slightly different in size the H is 19 7/8" 12 3/8" The red cross is 19 3/8" X 13" They are in good repair, not loose of flimsy, the edges are 1/4" thick. Heavy Old Antique Sliding Jail door - Bank Vault door - Very cool
This door is very heavy. Comes apart in three sections. The door and then the two sides. The sections overlap and then are screwed into whatever surface you would be attaching to. The door has two wheels that fit into a track on top. I have the door just leaning on the wrong side in the pictures.Very easy to assemble and install. These are old and very cool. I do not have a key. The key hole is on the other side of the door that you see. Probably should have taken a pic. I will this weekend and add along with a couple more closeups.
