Vintage Solid Brass Door - Very Nice Piece
Here is a beautiful solid brass door that I was told came out of a bank. The dimensions are approximately 62" tall by 30" wide. It is equipped with the original brass Yale lock. It also comes with the other half of the upper hinge that would attach to a wall or whatever you want for the door to mount and pivot on. The outside framing is all solid brass. The tubes appear to be hollow but very sturdy. I see no damage other than some tarnishing. This is a beautiful piece. Its needs a good cleaning and polishing. c1800s 7' 5" door set w arched Top From Old House In Detroit
The doors each measure: 7 feet 5" at the tallest part of the arch. 19 3/4" wide each and almost 2" thick. The door are made of a solid hard wood. My friend does demo in Detroit and I bought the doors from him. I was going to have my builder cut through my drywall and fit them into a space for a walk in closet. We are planning to move, so the doors can be yours! In the last two photos I have added photos from my living room. I hung some old doors on a wall behind my sofa. It's a great look and it breaks up a long wall. We hung them with a barn sliding system( cheap easy and secure) The doors have a chippy white outside and a chippy cream inside paint color. Solid pine 6 panel door [1980's] removed 10 years ago and stored since
Listing tonight is a fantastic solid pine entrance door removed years ago from my house and stored with care and will re install flat and true. Its a 6 panel design with true mortise and tenon construction. It measure 32 inches wide and 80 inches tall and 1 3/8 thick. You can see in the pics that the lockset is drilled as well as the hinges. So the bid is for a used slab only to be re framed and re hung. One side has clear finish and the other is painted with the signs of wear. It could be refinished or painted. The finish is original and the outside has the weathered look that time delivers. It would also make a great wall hangings or closet/ storage cabinet project door. This is a used 1900's Oak Entrance House Door. The door has beveled glass. 9 lite or glass sections. The entire glass area is 24" wide x 60" long. The door is 35 1/2" wide and is 83 3/8" tall and is 1 3/4" thick. The door has a 1/8" veneer finish. There is a couple spots were the veneer is missing. about 1/2" x 1/4" along edge and corner) The bottom edge has a strip of about 1/2" x 20" that has broken loose and is barely attached. The door is in really good shape. Though it is old and needs a good cleaning. It was under a large porch roof and had a storm door to protect it. It has all the hardware except key. No key. 8' tall old iron gates from La Brea Tar Pits Los Angeles
You are bidding on this pair of gates that I picked up at a moving sale. The people told me that these came from the La Brea Tar pits in L.A. and they though they were from the 30's. I just took their word for it. I am not guaranteeing this is really where they came from and that they are that old. The locks look that old. These weigh about 150-200 lbs. My wife and I carried these. They maybe more like 150 lbs. These stand 94" tall and are 35 7/8" wide. I showed in the pics how there is one of the eye hinge that is broke off. Most likely from the 1950's-60's. The door is in nice overall condition. Though there are scratches, gouges and small holes throughout(see pics) It has a light layer of stain on it, so just a light sanding/hole-filling and it's ready for paint. Original Moghul-styled House Door or Compound DOOR
HISTORY I found this door on a building site in Pune. Maharashtra State, India. It was on a pile of rubbish that had been accumulated from an old"Havali" that was being destroyed– for redevelopment. I had the door restored in India and then imported it to the UAE– where it was hung as the entrance-way to my garden. And villa in Dubai. It stayed there for 11 years and was kept pristine with a bees-wax based polishing every 10 days. I must have received well over 30 offers from local Emirati gentlemen to buy this gate from me– when they passed my house. Saw it and recognised it for what it was: a Moghul-styled antique which is the precursive style of decoration adopted in the Arabian Peninsula. The people who restored the door for me– Antiquarians from Mumbai– were categoric that the door was at least 200 years old. Though I cannot ... morecertify this. It IS in the style that was common on the houses of wealthy local Indian people of the time. The DOOR Made from Marante wood– a local. Indian hard-wood– the door is extraordinarily SOLID– and HEAVY. The detail of the carving is both intricate and rich– and in almost near-perfect condition. It sits on a solid Marante beam which is part of an equally sturdy frame. Capped by a lintel that is almost as solid. The door is built in the traditional way– as is witnessed from the reverse side. Where the nails can be seen to have been hammered, and then bent-over. The bottom"hinge" sits in metal plates– as per the photos. These have been newly re-engineered and were used bolted into a cement base. The top hinge slots into a rounded hole formed by part of the upper lintel. Traditionally. This kind of door was"locked" by using an old padlock to secure it from the outside, via the chain-and-hasp that are seen at the base of the right-hand section. This particular arrangement was hardly ever used as there was nearly always someone in the house. Internally, it used to be secured by a bar across both doors. So as to not drill through. This French Door Unit was located in the St.Mary of the Barrens Seminary. Perryville, MO. The building was constructed in 1925. This building was torn down about 15 years ago. The Door Unit has been stored in a heated and air conditioned walkout basement. The unit has a light varnish finish on all the wood(exposed) no glass is broken. This deal includes all windows and doors pictured, also all casings and jam mouldings. The hinges and handles are also included. This unit was originally installed on the interior of a large seminary building hall, leading to the library. The surface looks to be birch overlaying a pine secondary wood. The casing and moulding is solid birch. The jams are pine and in good order, ready to install into your rough opening! Doors measure approximately 30" X 94" each.
