Core of a pine tree, and not the soft, outer, living sap-wood. Since it takes 30 years for a pine tree just to develop just 1” of heart stock it is rarer. Harder, more durable, more insect& rot resistant, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and is much more valuable than the cheap, pine lumber that is commonly found at most hardware stores. Antique Vintage Interior 6-Horizontal Panel Door 1900s Interior Door with Six Horizontal Panels Nice Ogee Thickness: 1.75 inches Exact measurement: 31.75 x 70 This door was in our 1912 home. It was a service door. And was between the kitchen and the mud room. It has the same design as the doors on our third floor, which was for the live-in help(like I have any! It is different in style from the"formal" doors in what would be called"the family's" area of the house. There is a nice ogee surrounding each panel. There was a towel bar on one side of the door. So there are two screw holes on each side. Please see the photo. These are easily filled and painted over, of course. If you are thinking of stripping and staining the door, those are the only holes in the door(other than the holes for the door knobs, plates, etc. ... moreThe nickle-plated knobs. The nickle-plated back plates, and the brass locking mechanism are NOT included, but were left on to show you the thickness of the door. These pieces MAY be available for purchase separately. I believe it is birch. Since all of the other doors in the house are birch(and I stripped all of them, so I know they were birch) I have not attempted to strip this door. It is heavy. Much heavier than a similar size pine door I have stored in the basement. We weighed it on a bathroom scale, and it is approximately 75 pounds. Measurements: 70 inches tall by 31.75 inches wide. 1.75 inches thick. Much thicker than more modern doors. You can pick this up locally in St. Paul. Minnesota, or I will work with your shipper to get it to you. I got estimates for someone who lives in Rutherford, New Jersey. I'm in St. Paul, Minnesota. The least expensive freight charge was about $85. Our home is smoke-free. Perfume-free. But pet-friendly. Nothing I send you will smell of smoke or perfume. Ever. Antique Vintage 2 Panel Interior Door 23X78 F2
Please note: this door has finger joints on the stiles(see pic) Though it is solid wood and not veneered. It looks like these were paint-grade doors that someone had stained instead. These really should be painted! Also,there is a crack near the hole for the lockset(see pic) Here is a 2-panel door removed from an older home. Most likely from the 1950's-60's. The door is in nice overall condition. Though there are scratches, gouges and small holes throughout(see pics) It has a light layer of stain on it, so just a light sanding/hole-filling and it's ready for paint. Any issues with the door are certainly fixable, especially if the door will be painted. Not sure of the wood species but most likely fir or pine. There is no hardware included with the door. The door is made of solid wood, has 9 windows and 4 triangular raised panels. One glass lite is missing. But the rest are fully intact. We could either custom cut a new piece from our collection of old glass, or we could order a new glass lite(i.e. beveled, tempered, leaded, stained, etc. and install it-email us for a quote. On the interior side of the door. The top corner of the hinge stile looks like it was pushed in by something; the top of the lock stile, bottom of the hinge stile, bottom rail, bottom of the lock stile, the crisscrossing rails, the edge of the lock stile and a piece of molding next to the window without the glass are all chipped; there is a break in the middle hinge mortise; a piece of molding above the window without the glass and the bottom portion of the hinge stile are both cracked. Otherwise. This door is in very good shape with only surface scrapes, scratches, small nail holes-minor cosmetic blemishes, which would be removed during the finishing process or covered if painted. Quirks& Considerations: The height of the door was unevenly cut by 1/8" at some point. Most likely to accommodate for a warped floor or settling foundation. Here is a 2-panel door that was removed from a home that was built in the 1920's. There are multiple coats of paint and some dings/nicks/scratches throughout. I'm not sure of the wood species. But it's most likely pine or fir. Any cosmetic issues are certainly fixable if it is going to be painted. It is set up for a mortise-latch. There is no hardware included. Check all photos for condition. There are 2 mortises for 3 1/2" hinges(not included) It is currently set up as a right-hand swing. This door has 3 raised panels and one glass lite. If you think that pine is a weak. Soft wood; please keep in mind that the wood milled from modern pine trees, which only grow for a few decades before they are cut down, is not the same quality as the wood that was milled by our forefathers from trees that were hundreds of years old. This door was built using the wood from mature pine trees, and exhibits the qualities of wood that has endured the test of time. As a result, it's physically harder, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and more insect and rot resistant than today's pine lumber.
