The door has a solid, pine core covered with 1/16" thick, birch veneers. Also, please don't think that"veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture. These veneers are almost 1/16" thick and provide strength and stability to the door. Also note that chestnut is a rare and valuable wood; it’s not commercially available due to the blight introduced between 1900& 1908. Which made the North American chestnut trees virtually extinct by 1940. The door is finished on both sides. But there are spots and patches of paint ... morehere and there. Life has a way of taking over such that when my goal was hit my inventory just sat in storage. Well. I have to admit not only did it sit but over the years I have added to it. Due to my fiancé in all likelihood having to move overseas due to work in 2015 and me tagging along I HAVE TO liquidate my inventory. And yes, I have that much that I need to start now.
