The door is made of solid Douglas Fir, and has an impressive arrangement of 15, true-divided, glass lites. 12 of the lites are original, wavy glass, and 3 are newer, flat glass. We could replace the 3 newer lites with old, wavy lites for $35. Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However. 35"x83" Antique Restored Refinished French Door 15 True Divided Wavy Glass Lites
Penn Antique Restoration. 35"x83" Antique Restored French Door w/15 Wavy Glass Lites. Beautifully restored. Antique door salvaged from an old home in Northeastern Pennsylvania. It’s made of solid pine and features an arrangement of 15 true-divided, wavy glass lites. We repaired, refinished, and equipped the door with an old lockset and mailbox. Restoration: At the point of salvage. The door was found with its original finish, 1 broken lite, 1 deadbolt hole, 1 broken mullion, 9 pieces of broken molding, nail holes, and equipped only with a mortise lock and mail door. Since then, we’ve stripped the original finish, replaced the broken lite, made and added molding, patched the deadbolt hole, and filled the nail holes(see photos under"Prior to refinishing" A few months ago. A customer bought the door and had us cut the width ... morefrom 35 7/8" to 35 1/8" and refinish it to match the woodwork in his home. Unfortunately, the customer did the measuring himself, and mis-measured. The door was actually perfect at 35 7/8" but after cutting it, it was no longer usable for him. His loss is now your opportunity to purchase a fully-restored, antique, French entry door at a discounted price. Please note that the replacement lite was custom cut from antique windows we salvaged from around our area. All repairs were made using antique pine. Hardware: We added a pair of brass knobs and brass-plated iron escutcheons. We didn't make a key for the lock. But we could for an additional $6/key-email us after the auction if you are interested. The door has a solid, Douglas Fir core covered with 1/4" thick, hardwood veneers. I'm familiar with many wood types, but I'm unsure of this one. The grain most closely resembles walnut. The door if finished on the exterior side and painted white on the interior side. There is an unusual arrangement of 5 recessed panels on both sides of the door. Also, please don't think that"veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture. These veneers are 1/4" thick and provide strength and stability to the door. The door could be sanded and refinished several times before the door would need to ... morebe re-veneered. Hardware: Although the photos show some hardware installed; the door doesn't come equipped with any hardware. However. Soft wood; please keep in mind that the wood milled from modern pine trees, which only grow for a few decades before they are cut down, is not the same quality as the wood that was ... moremilled by our forefathers from trees that were hundreds of years old. This shutter was built using the wood from mature pine trees, and exhibits the qualities of wood that has endured the test of time. As a result, it's physically harder, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and more insect and rot resistant than today's pine lumber. Pairs#3& 4 were not originally paired together. We acquired the doors from a contractor. And didn't remove the doors from the home ourselves. We don't know exactly how the doors were installed, or if there were other doors that we didn't get, which may have been the actual mates of the doors that we paired together to make Pairs#3& 4. The windows and mullions of the doors in the 2 odd pairs line up with each other, but the hinge mortises are not located in the correct positions to allow the hinges to be installed where they need to be. Lovely pair of antique. French doors. All of the doors were salvaged from an old home in Northeastern Ohio. Each door is made of either Douglas Fir or pine and features an impressive arrangement of 10 true-divided old-fashioned, hand-blown, wavy glass lites. If you think that pine is a weak. Soft wood; please keep in mind that the wood milled from modern pine trees, which only grow for a few decades before they are cut down, is not the same quality as the wood that was milled ... moreby our forefathers from trees that were hundreds of years old. This shutter was built using the wood from mature pine trees, and exhibits the qualities of wood that has endured the test of time. As a result, it's physically harder, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and more insect and rot resistant than today's pine lumber. Pairs#3& 4 were not originally paired together. We acquired the doors from a contractor. And didn't remove the doors from the home ourselves. We don't know exactly how the doors were installed, or if there were other doors that we didn't get, which may have been the actual mates of the doors that we paired together to make Pairs#3& 4. The windows and mullions of the doors in the 2 odd pairs line up with each other, but the hinge mortises are not located in the correct positions to allow the hinges to be installed where they need to be. This is a very minor detail, which is easily corrected.
