New pine hewn from 10- 20 year old trees doesn't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old has. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine. The glass lite installed is actually plexiglass. Unfortunately. The door is made of solid, old pine and is painted on both sides. If you think that pine is a weak. Soft wood; please keep in mind that the wood milled from modern pine trees, which only grow for a few decades before they are cut down, is not the same quality as the wood that was milled by our forefathers from trees that were hundreds of years old. This door was built using the wood from mature pine trees, and exhibits the qualities of wood that has endured the test of time. As a result, it's physically harder, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and more insect and rot resistant than today's pine lumber. The door has an arched top with 4 raised panels on both sides. Quirks& ... moreConsiderations: The door originally had a 5th panel at the bottom. But I believe that it was removed to let a pet cross between rooms. We could make and add a new panel- email us for a quote. The height of the door is slightly uneven.
