IL- Far ... morewest Chicago suburbs) Up for auction: A gorgeous. Old, oak armoire, closet or wardrobe. It has a beveled-mirrored door and one drawer, offering tons of elegantly hidden storage. I believe it's English, based on its instructional tag: This Wardrobe when dismantled will pass the narrowest stairway or passage. Instructions: Unscrew cornice and plinth from inside of carcase. Hold the door. I can't be certain, but believe it likely dates to the early 1900s. I had too many photos to include one of the patent number(small tag nailed inside the drawer) which reads: PROVL.PAT.NO. 86004-20. The inside compartment has three hooks across the center back top. And one hook on each side. The drawer is dovetailed. The mirror has a simple bevel. My photos aren't the best- sorry- bad lighting. I think. It's a medium-dark oak. Beautiful! Condition: Overall. For it's age, I think it's in nice vintage condition with age-appropriate imperfections. I think it displays beautifully(and is superbly useful) By way of flaws: 1) the left side. Center, shows a split(where two oak panels meet) it bows out slightly. I don't think it's really distractive, but could probably be remedied by the handy; 2) there's a 2" x 1/2" chip on one side, near the back, relatively near the bottom- hard to see; 3) can't really see it, but the bottom skirt is angled a bit, with a small split on one side; 4) the mirror I think is totally functional and charming as is, but has spots of loss of silvering and minor imperfections; 5) in the drawer, you'll see there are wood support blocks(these came with this- I assume for the underside- that look supplementary supports) that probably could be glued into position for additional support(I haven't investigated; the closet seems fine as is) 6) the door handle has pulled a bit with a small break in the metal- still

This is an Antique Inlaid Mahogany Wardrobe Armoire that arrived from England a few years ago. This is a beautiful armoire with clear beveled oval mirror on the door. The front and edges all around have the inlaid design which is very interesting. The ornate hardware is original but has no key. Inside reveals both a rod and hooks along the back for clothing storage. There is a large drawer for added storage at the bottom. The mahogany is a rich color that would add warmth to any room. The wood used is mahogany. The mahogany wood has developed a lovely, warm patina. It would make a lovely coat closet near the front door or a wonderful clothes closet in a bedroom. The door of this wardrobe is a beveled mirror door. The mirror is clean and does not have any spotting. Inside is a large open space with some brass hooks for hanging. Below the door is a single. Large drawer. The drawer is constructed with dovetailed joints which shows you that the maker was a quality furniture maker. The hardware is all solid brass on the drawer and door. They also both lock and one key is included. Overall this antique corner wardrobe is in very good condition. There are a few dings here and there(especially on the cornice) as you would expect from a piece of this age. We have also pointed out in the photos where the board on the back of the door has expanded causing it to bow out. IL- Far west Chicago suburbs) Up for auction: A gorgeous. Old, oak armoire, closet or wardrobe. It has a beveled-mirrored door and one drawer, offering tons of elegantly hidden storage. I believe it's English, based on its instructional tag: This Wardrobe when dismantled will pass the narrowest stairway or passage. Instructions: Unscrew cornice and plinth from inside of carcase. Hold the door. I can't be certain, but believe it likely dates to the early 1900s. I had too many photos to include one of the patent number(small tag nailed inside the drawer) which reads: PROVL.PAT.NO. 86004-20. The inside compartment has three hooks across the center back top. And one hook on each side. The drawer ... moreis dovetailed. The mirror has a simple bevel. My photos aren't the best- sorry- bad lighting. I think. It's a medium-dark oak. Beautiful! Condition: Overall. For it's age, I think it's in nice vintage condition with age-appropriate imperfections. I think it displays beautifully(and is superbly useful) By way of flaws: 1) the left side. Center, shows a split(where two oak panels meet) it bows out slightly. I don't think it's really distractive, but could probably be remedied by the handy; 2) there's a 2" x 1/2" chip on one side, near the back, relatively near the bottom- hard to see; 3) can't really see it, but the bottom skirt is angled a bit, with a small split on one side; 4) the mirror I think is totally functional and charming as is, but has spots of loss of silvering and minor imperfections; 5) in the drawer, you'll see there are wood support blocks(these came with this- I assume for the underside- that look supplementary supports) that probably could be glued into position for additional support(I haven't investigated; the closet seems fine as is) 6) the door handle has pulled a bit with a small break in the metal- still

We are pleased to offer this beautiful antique wardrobe. This dates to the early 1900's. Made from mahogany this is a sturdy and functional piece. It measures approximately 79" high x 11 1/8" wide x 17" deep. The door. Front side panels and top are decorated with string inlay. Each front side panel has an oval cartouche decorated with bell flower inlay and topped with an inlay bow. There is a key that comes with this but it does not lock. The handle turns to open and close it. There is a dove tail jointed drawer at the base. The drawer is missing the escutcheon and the lock mechanism is also missing from the drawer. The inside has both a rod and hooks for hanging clothes. This unit breaks down into three pieces for easy transport. There are appropriate signs of age and use ion this piece including scratches. Dings and tiny ... morerepairs to the inlay and there is a tiny repair to the wood framing and the banding at the top. This is a previously owned item and it is being sold as shown. It's an antique Italian Walnut Bombe Wardrobe Armoire. Dating from around 1920. Serpentine shaped body with a bombe base and with scalloped cornice tip and cross banded frieze above a large central mirrored door with a serpentine front and with a single inlaid door to either side all with ornate gilt handles. Breaks down to three sections for ease of transporting. Tom Horvath in Totowa. NJ had completely refurbished and refinished the armoire about 10 years ago. This wardrobe was purchased from an antique shop that imported from Europe regularly and I believe is around the 1940s era. Not positive and not wanting to mislead, just not sure. It is definetly not a reproduction, that I am sure. The three doors are all intact and the center main door has a heavy beveled mirror that is in pretty good condition. The doors sit on a pin style hinge and the parts all work fair. This wardrobe comes completely apart down to the base unit that holds the drawers. the back is like a puzzle to put together but not to complicated. The top and bottom are bolted together with a spiral type bolt and only three are with the unit but it I used a clamp on the top and it worked fine holding it together, which I will include. It takes a skeleton key on the doors which is pretty common to find but I dont have one. It is a ... morenice piece of old furniture but just dont need it. It has a tall cabinet for hanging clothes and a smaller cabinet with 2 shelves and 3 generous drawers. It sits on an additional large. Deep drawer. In addition, it is crowned with a decorative scroll-work topper. The final assembled height is 7 feet. It is a little over 4 feet wide and approximately 18 inches deep. It comes in 4 parts- a stand. The wide bottom drawer, the main armoire with 2 cabinets and 3 drawers, and the top piece. The main cabinet has a large beveled mirror in the door. The mirror is 13 1/2 inches wide and 4 feet tall. The main piece is made of heavy Mahogany-like wood with mainly original fittings. You can see that the drawer pull for the bottom(of the 3) drawer was replaced. UPDATED INFO Vintage Antique "Chifforobe" Wardrobe Armoire Early 20th Century
This is an early 1900's antique"chifforobe" wardrobe) with 5 drawers and a small mirrored door on one side. And a full size wardrobe door on the other side. Behind the full size door is a place for hanging garments with an iron hanging rod. A couple of the drawers need some work but everything else functions normally. Beautiful wood grain with wear and tear that would be expected for age of furniture. Has been in continual use for 75 to 95 years! The inside of the chifforobe is somewhat more rustic than the exterior. One drawer bottom is quite interesting(see photo# 6)I don't know if this wooden crating material was a replacement or if it originally came that way. Either way. It's been like that for as long as I can remember, and I'm 57 years old. Truly. This item would make a great display piece for an antique clothing ... moreboutique or for great storage for at home! Dimensions: approximately. 45" in width. 63" in height, and 22.35 in depth. A little bit of history: My grandparents were married in 1919. This chifforobe very likely dates from the very beginning of their marriage. If not. They certainly acquired it sometime soon thereafter. It was a fixture in their home for decades. And my widowed grandmother continued to use it throughout her adult life up until her death in the early 1990s. So this is truly an original vintage item with quite a bit of age on it.
