Offering this collection of old compasses. There are 5 here including: The hunter pop open cased compass circa WWll made by Wittnauer in good working condition with some rust on the hands. It may be military but not stamped US. Also a german made Hoffritz double sided compass with a distance measurer for a map on the flip side that converts centimeters run on a map to kilometers on land. The hands on the compass side are rusty but functional. The little measuring wheel is brass. Next is the smallest made in England with a fold out magnifying glass(a quality one) light weight and can be put on a lanyard or cord. Only a small dent on this. Works well. Next is a Doxa from Japan a souvenir compass with the side needle lock and a leather belt clip that reads"Huntsville Alabama" in good shape. Old Vintage Antique Berg Hedstrom Germany Measuring Device Map Orienteering
Here's an interesting old. Vintage or antique outdoorsman's tool I'd guess to be from the 30's to maybe early 50's. The maker was Berg Hedstrom of Germany. This one is a measuring tool used on maps to determine the distance between two points. One simply rolls the wheel along the map, the needle moves and stops at the proper scaled distance. Handy for hiking, hunting, orienteering,etc. and may have been provided for military map orienting as well. This one seems to be in good usable condition. As the pictures show there are several guage rings on both sides. Measurements can be made of: Inches to Miles, Centimeters to Kilometers, Statute Miles and Nautical Miles. Find your map scale and this will measure how many miles on one side or kilometers on the other just by rolling across the map. Both sides work as they should. VINTAGE WORLD WAR II PILOTS ESCAPE DOUBLE SIDED MAP - FRANCE, GERMANY& HOLLAND
This is a vintage World War II double sided pilots escape map which measures 29 inches x 27 1/2 inches. In 1940 the British Intelligence Unit known as MI9 starting issuing silk maps for use by British aircrews shot down over enemy occupied territory in Europe to assist the airmen in evading capture. This double sided map appears to made of silk or rayon and one side has a map showing France(south east) Germany(south west) and Switzerland together with a small inset map of Belgium& Germany. The other side shows a map of Holland. Belgium(except west coast) France(north east) and Germany( west& central) The condition of the map is quite good with no tears. Damage or repairs to be found just some very slight fraying around the edges. There are signs of wear as is to be expected through age and use- some slight staining and fading in places ... morebut nothing too serious. For accuracy in my description I will point out that there are two tiny pin heads holes which you can only see when you hold the map up to the light but nothing that detracts in any way. The map is quite creased in places and could do with a press or iron but I will leave this to the buyer! This brass cigarette case has a map of Germany engraved on the front with the date 1945. One the back it is engraved Marcil R. Baxter(He was my Uncle) and Belgium 1946. It is app. 4.5" x 3.5" It looks as if it was coated in silver which has almost completely worn off. There is some tarnish as shown in pictures. The inside is still nice and shiny. Single map of Denmark from Colton’s General Atlas. Beautifully hand-colored in pink. Green, and yellow with stylish chain link illustrated border. Light age toning to blank edges, otherwise a fine specimen with no faults to note. Text print on verso, does not show through. Scans of map available for viewing; inquires always welcome. Fine. Ships fitted into an archival bag, rolled and mailed airmail inside a sturdy shipping tube. Scans: First scan with cropped edges(scanner is tabloid size but shows most of the map. Shows about 10 x 16 inches) followed by two separate scans to fully show the complete map with edges.
