It mentions early administrators, activities, departments,slogans. and such as well as the layout of the college. It has some staining on the left hand side(especially the upper left corner(not too bad but it is there, and there are some light damaged spots around the edge. I don't think there is anything that is too distracting considering the map's age. For its age condition is good. It has been rolled up for a long time and you will want to mount it or frame it. India: Rare newspaper map of Lucknow, 24 Jan 1858, at the time of the "Mutiny"
This remarkable map. Surviving over 160 years after being issued as a loose-leaf supplement to The Weekly Dispatch of 24th January 1858(see red imprint in second picture, above) was drawn by Edward Weller, and was intended to help readers follow the news coverage of events at Lucknow during the sepoy Mutiny(as it was thought of, at the time) The siege of the Residency effectively began on 30th June 1857, putting the British garrison in a very vulnerable position. The Residency compound covered an area of 60 acres, and lay in the midst of a scattering of mosques and palaces which the Resident, Sir Henry Lawrence, refused to demolish, despite the cover they gave to sepoy forces. He would not be seen as a destroyer of"holy places" The situation is clearly displayed in Weller's map. even the Nawab's"tiger dens" and ... morethe Kaiserbagh(The Nawab of Oudh's Palace) Two relief operations were launched, one in September(by Sir James Outram and Sir Henry Havelock) the second in November, by Sir Colonel Colin Campbell. Their lines of advance are marked in red on the inset map, top right. As a point of interest the largest number of VCs ever awarded on a single day(24) was won on 24th November, in the final assault on the Secundrabagh(see inset Of Dil Khusha Park and route of Campbell's advance) After Campbell's successful break-through. Havelock and Outram wanted to finish the business by storming the Kaiserbagh(top left) but Campbell, realising that rebel forces were still threatening other cities held by the British, opted for a quick withdrawal. Canvas screens were put up to shield open spaces from view, and while artillery bombarded the Kaiserbagh, to deceive the sepoys that an attack was imminent, the women, children, and wounded were ushered away unseen. The rest of the British forces evacuated over the next two days, after spiking their guns. Lucknow was not re-captured by the British till 21st March 1858. This is a large 1929 Railroad Map of Mexico. It measures 28 X 20 inches. It is quite detailed. Showing the topography, towns, transportation lines, and other landmarks as they existed in 1929. On its face it has a listing of the Railroads in existence at the time. See scan. A search of worldcat.org which lists all holdings in the worlds libraries. Museums, historical societies and even a few map dealers shows that no other copy of this atlas exists anywhere. We have searched other sites and come up with zero. This appears to have been the only copy that survived. Paper drives during World War II, took many library and reference works. You are bidding on a rare. Wonderful map of the western United States by Colton published in 1865- California, Arizona, Nevada, New mexico and Colorado. It is an early version of the western states showing Las Vegas as part of Arizona! It is in VG+ condition with a minor rip at the bottom of the fold and some slight discoloring on the edges. My photos accurately describe the beauty and condition of this map. This map has been stored rolled in its mailing tube for years which is why I used weighted objects to flatten it out for the photos. Rare Vintage Large 1884 Map of California Up for sale is a great looking Gram’s Atlas 1884 map of California based on date collected in 1880. George Gram is a noted engraver and map publisher. Shows the whole state of California. Some of Oregon to the North and a lot of Nevada to the East. This is a very nice, vintage rare map that is large and would look great framed. The map measures 21 ½ inches x 13 ½ inches. The map has a very nice reddish frame drawn around the borders of the state. In very good condition especially for being 133 years old! This auction is for an original. Antique lithograph plate which has been rescued from a disbound copy of'Meyers Konversations-Lexikon. Date Published: Printed in 1885 by Bibliographisches Institut. Leipzig, Germany Print size: 11 3/4 inches by 9 1/2 inches The lithograph has a characteristic patina which is natural for vintage paper. But is in good condition considering it is nearly 130 years old. The plate was folded inside the book and has the original centrefold, although this central line is more visible on the scanned image than the actual print up for auction. Although a general impression of the print can be seen from the image, it doesn't really capture the true detail and color quality of the original. The originator of the print up for auction was Joseph Meyer(May 1796- June 1856) who published the respected German encyclopedia. ... moreMeyers Konversations-Lexikon. 1651 Very Rare Picart Map of Greece
1651 Peeters Map- Grece Nicolas Picart was a French engraver in the mid 1600s but his output was extremely limited and very little is known about him. Consequently his maps are very rare and his name does not appear in Tooley's"Dictionary of Mapmakers" He did produce one known atlas. Tresor des Cartes Geographiques" around 1651 and the maps are clearly derived from the earlier work of Mercator and Hondius, published by Jansson. This map of Greece comes from"Tresor. and has a wealth of engraved detail as well as a nice banner title. The map measures 5.5" by 7" Has fine hand colouring, and is in very good condition.
