He was rector of the Church of Ireland in Navan, a founding member of the Royal Irish Academy and a prominent member of the Royal Dublin Society. It includes 2 overlays, one is blank. Maps are in excellent condition with no tears or significant damage, colors are bright. one overlay has some marks on it that may or may not come off, the tape that held the US map to the Alaska map has lost its adhesion but a new strip of tape will fix the problem easily. The very bottom section of the Alaska map has some slight age darkening, wrinkling and flaking. Map includes wood pole but does NOT have the mounting bracket or hardware. Rare and historically fascinating cloth/ linen backed folding map. Scale: 20 miles to 1 inch. Size unfolded: 78 x 55cm. The map shows geographical features as mapped by Henry Morton Stanley in the Congo River Basin. As part of his Emin Pasha Relief Expedition. Other details include routes used by ivory poachers etc. Condition: The paper on which the map is printed is fragile and torn in places(although there is very little loss) And lightly dusted.
