British North America referred to the colonies and territories of the British Empire in continental North America. The term was first used informally in 1783. But it was uncommon before the Report on the Affairs of British North America(1839) Called the Durham Report. In 1775 the British Empire included 20 territories north of New Spain. These were Newfoundland, Rupert's Land, Nova ... moreScotia, Prince Edward Island. The Thirteen Colonies(which later united to become the United States after independence from the United Kingdom) East and West Florida. And the Province of Quebec. Britain had acquired Quebec from France and East and West Florida from Spain by the Treaty of Paris(1763) Which ended the Seven Years' War. Spain regained the Floridas and the United States of America. Upon acknowledgement of their sovereignty, acquired the part of Quebec south of the Great Lakes by the Treaty of Paris(1783) Nova Scotia was split into modern-day Nova Scotia and New Brunswick in 1784. The part of Quebec retained after 1783 was split into the primarily French-speaking Lower Canada and the primarily English-speaking Upper Canada in 1791. After the War of 1812. The Treaty of 1818 established the 49th parallel as the United States– British North America border from Rupert's Land west to the Rocky Mountains. Britain gave up Oregon south of the 49th parallel. Up for auction is this very interesting Map Compass. Made in Germany by Wanderer. This compass has a map magnifier and on the bottom has a converter wheel that converts inches into nautical miles. Pretty neat! I've seen many of them on the internet but I couldn't find any with the magnifier. It's in working order and good vintage condition. A.M. c. 1897-1899) This map covers the German Empire. The Eastern Part, and includes inset maps of Berlin and Vicinity& Hamburg and Vicinity. Published in original"contemporary" color(not handtinted) You'll note the name of the map and a legend for the map. The plate number is listed on the outside edge of the map. As well as on the backside of the paper. There is also a brief description of what this map covers(see photo) There is a center fold line. The page was attached to a ... morebook by a linen strip(guard) which was sewn into the binding. This small linen strip is still attached to the backside of the map. Measures: 12-7/8 x 17" outside edge of paper) Untrimmed and suitable for framing. Condition: Unless otherwise noted. This map is in Very Good+ condition. The map is clean and bright. There is browning or oxidation of the paper on the outside 1/2" edge of the page all the way around the map. There is one small puncture to page that does not go through the paper and is in the outside 1/2" of the map(see photo) Hardly noticeable. Paper is healthy. Still supple and crisp to the touch. You can see the engraving impressions on the backside of the map. No restoration work has been done. No structural flaws noted. I.e. no tears, stains, puncture holes, crinkles, bumped edges, worm holes, no spots of foxing, no mildew or mold, no offensive odors, and no trimming of edges. Who Are We?
