HUGE 1924 DOMINION OF CANADA MAP - 52" x 112" - 4 pieces - ANTIQUE GEOGRAPHY
Antique 19 2 4 map of the Dominion of Canada This map is 8 9 years old. Published in 19 2 4. It is in four pieces. Each one 2 8 inches wide and 52 inches long. The pieces fit tog ether to create a single map of Canada with one border around the outside. All of the pieces are in very good condition with the exception of the upper edges. Which ha ve several tears in them. These tears have been somewhat effectively. Though not very professionally, repaired by someone who applied white adhesive paper to the backs of the maps. The paper seems to have stopped further deterioration, although obviously the map should be framed and/or linen backed for proper con servation. The surfaces are clean and bright. This beautiful large-scale map of"Palestine or The Holy Land" was produced by Geographer to the Queen of Scotland. Alexander Keith Johnston and published in 1882 in his"Royal Atlas of Modern Geography. Johnston apprenticed to James Kirkwood& Sons, Engravers in 1820. In 1826, he partnered with his brother William in W. A.K. Johnston. He died July 9th, 1871 in Yorkshire but the business continued under his name until the late 1890's. The incredible level of detail provided is characteristic of this mapmaker This map shows all topography including mountains and physical features. Rivers and lakes, cities and towns, provinces and regions. The territory covered includes parts of modern day Israel, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria, extending from the Dead Sea in the south to Tripoli in the north. T his wonderful"Heart of New England" map- one side a full color map of the eastern Massachusetts region. The other side e ntitled"A Practical Map" highly detailed street map of the city of Boston. Both maps are designed to be very user friendly and include tremendous detail such as the location of town halls. Light houses. Post offices, railroad lines and train depot, churches, schools and cemeteries. Through roads and"good roads, local and private roads are all depicted as are town and county boundaries and even electric lines. With a scal e of 400 feet to the inch this is a wonderful reference resource! Date is 1910. The publisher was the Bullard Company. Located at 46 Cornhill. This map is one sheet of paper. Approximately 40 inches wide by 45 inches tall. It is folded into panels each 5 inches x 11-1/4 inche ... mores. Total 32 panels. The paper folds up so that it is sandwiched between two dark olive green hard cover"pasteboard" type covers. The leaves inside the covers are firmly glued to them. CONDITION: FRAGILE- Please look at our pict ures! Lovely color with no fading. NO stains, NO writing anywhere and NO serious tears. T here are numerous short edge tears and some splits in the folds. Pretty much expected from age. There is some chipping at the center bottom of the front cover. The paper is age darkening slightly, very grac efully. The pretty heart design on the covers is hard to read due to age darkening. T he way it was de signed- with tw o of the fragile. Thin pa per panels permanently mounted to heavy boards- makes it easy to damage it. S o handle with care! There are edge bumps on the covers and on the corners of the map that protru de from inside the covers.
