Circa 1910 School Pulldown Wall Map-Europe-Weber Costello Champion Series
Here for sale is a vintage map published Weber Costello. It came with several similar maps from the"Unrivaled Series" of 1914 published by Johnston. So I think it was made circa 1910's even though I could not find a date. I obtained this map and 6 other maps from a collection of maps used in a one room school in Welch. Minnesota. The maps had a slight odor of age which has improved substantially since I took them out of their holder. The map measures about 38 by 46 inches. And has rollers on each end. The map has condition issues as shown in the photo. Including tearing and scraping, mostly along the bottom, and along the extreme edges. Map could use a cleaning. Rare c1850 LARGE EUROPE Wall Map,W&A.K. Johnston School Original
This is a very old Antique Map of Europe by W& AK Johnston of Edinburgh and London. This is a Roll-Up Map and has the original casing with Spring Roller(like a window shade) that allows it to retract. The case is in very rough condition but the roller does still work. The map is attached to the roller on about half of the rod so some repairing would be necessary if one chose to use the roller and case. The map measures approximately 5 feet by 5 feet. Overall the map is in amazing shape for it's age. It does have some water staining predominately at the lower portion where the legend and white areas are located. The map still retains much of it's great original color and of course is historically accurate for the time period for which it was made. They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. So the maps you are buying will be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. Some of them also have been written on with the date and location. Usually on back but sometimes on the edges. They may also have tiny holes beginning to form where the fold lines meet. Great vintage feel to this one and a great piece of home decor for your vintage home/ retail premises. You’re going to enjoy it more if your home is well over 2500sf with very large rooms. Don’t let the photos throw you off. The The room want fit into the photo without making the map disappear. The ceiling is almost 16 feet and it hangs above a massive fireplace that’s 5 feet deep 7 ¾ and just as tall. This Map was Printed in Germany and is in very good to excellent condition. Very Detailed! Please see the pictures for more of maps subject. All the maps in my collection made by Justus Darmstadt. Wenschow or Perthes are made with extreme details using the highest grade canvas and printing. Reinforced stitching with the canvas edges protected by a double stitched cloth that prevents the usual Fraying. I have only 15 different maps made by Wenschow and Justus left,they are the highest of quality with vivid colors lots of detail framed by the Black border. Fabulous! I have a nice vintage classroom wall map of A pictorial map of Europe. It was made by A J Nystrom company in the mid sixties. Not totally sure of the date. But most maps I have ate from that era It is made from a paper/fiber material that is a heavy paper so it is wipeable. It is the type that hung on the wall on the runner and rolled down. I rolled it down just enough to inspect it. It rolled back fine but I will still handle with TLC The colors are vibrant and no visible tears are present. This one was still wrapped in the brown paper. They were stored in an old warehouse for about 40 years.I quite a few if these maps which I will start posting in the next couple of days so keep checking. The pictures and title are the only difference the pictures are the map you will get rolled up and shipped for a flat $25 which includes shipping This auction is for one of many school maps made by Denoyer Geppert in the 60s. These maps are the heavy paper used by some schools and purchased as a set or series. The maps were either mounted on canvas or were not. Same print but it cost less when it was not mounted and attached to a dowel. I have so many of this type Its simply not worth the time to take a lot of pictures and describe them one by one most have a tear or two that’s easy to repair. Just expect them to have a few flaws. I'm not sure of the exact age of this map(Mos t likely late 1950's to the 1960's) The spring operated roll system makes this easy to deploy and retract and it is in good working condition. This map is all german the title is MITTEL-u. OSTEUROPA NACH DEM 30 jahr. Kriege. i have no clue what all of that means but the map is really spectacular. just pulled this one out and really like the look. i dont say that to often but theres something about the way it is divided a.D all the detailed areas. if you are the type that has two candles on pr two lamps or two of anything that must line up as in one on a side table a,d the other on a side table 6" from the edge, perfect balance you will hate this map. I also paint portraits and sculpt and like most artist two of anything is odd. This map is divided but not in half. That and the colors perhaps is why I like it. It has a few issues all of which can be repaired if desired the only big issue is the lower dowel its missing its other half. That's the exception to two matching ... moreitems.
