I have here for sale a superb map of France published by Edward Stanford of 6& 7 Charing Cross SW. The map comes in a slip case. There are six numbered parts. Each of which are a 40-32" map in their own rights, on linen backing. The end parts are covered in marbled paper coverings. Two of the maps have sticky out sections where France has not been the right shape for the map maker. No date shown but I do know that Stanfords moved from 6-7 Charing Cross Road in 1873 so this map was published before then. I recently acquired a box full of prints( or some type of engravings) that were pulled out of old books. This is a page from a book with a map that is attached to the book page. But could be removed and it's all in rench which I don't read. The page is 6 3/8 x 9 5/8 inches. The page is foxed but the map sheet is very clean. I hope my pictures tell the story.

1794 Wallis Map- Department of the Loiret John Wallis was a successful late 18th century English publisher operating from the Map Warehouse. 16 Ludgate Street, London. Many of his publications related to English counties or roads but in 1794 he took advantage of the interest in France by the English after the Revolution of 1789 and the changes in the administrative regions wrought by the Revolution. Several French publishers had created new'departmental' atlases and Wallis carefully'adapted' these for an English speaking audience and employed the noted engraver, Samuel Neele, to draw/copy these maps. The result was his'A New Atlas of France' published in 1794, an immensely detailed atlas of the country, in English for an English speaking audience.
